To commemorate the start of NaNoWriMo 2008, I'd like to share a bit of fiction that stands as a landmark in amateur writing. Originally published in 1970, The Eye of Argon would be Jim Theis' first and only foray into the fantasy genre, but its simple message and unique characterization live on, touching new generations of readers and writers alike nearly 40 years after it was first published.
Jim was only a teenager when he wrote this, his magnum opus, but a cursory reading of just the first page reveals a level of genius that is thus far unmatched in the field of litarature. Please, take a moment out of your day and read a bit of THE EYE OF ARGON. (http://www.dcs.gla.ac.uk/SF-Archives/Misc/Eye_Of_The_Argon) I promise that you won't be disappointed.
