I mean we all knew he was a moron, but he had to top himself I guess.

Sanchez called out Comedy Central host Jon Stewart as a "bigot" for mocking him, and complained that Jews -- like Stewart -- don't face discrimination. He also suggested that CNN, and perhaps the media industry more broadly, is run by Jews and elitists who look down on Hispanics like himself.
Clearly, those comments didn't sit well with the network, which put out a terse statement around 6 p.m. Friday.
"Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company," the CNN statement read. "We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well."
Oh Rick. Who will say insanely stupid and ignorant shit on CNN now?
Well maybe with his free time he can figure out how long a meter is.

Yeah, this isn't exactly a surprising outcome. The guy's not exactly known for being the sharpest knife in the drawer, but comments like those were bound to draw more direct fire.
Still, here's hoping Sanchez lands on his feet... preferably in some place too cold for volcanoes.

He is far too stupid and not nearly partisan enough to pull that off.
He lasted a full hour longer than I expected. Congratulations, Mr. Sanchez.

So did he prove his point? The world conquering Jews got their way. He fell for their ploy hook, line and sinker. Nice job numb nuts.
Shall we start a pool? I say he's Fox News' newest in 2 weeks.

Having no idea who the guy was, when I read the article and it said he was hispanic I went "Wtf?", he does indeed look whiter than white.
Still, he has a point, when were the Jews ever last persecuted? They've had it pretty sweet so far.

Not if you're not a personality like Beck or Maddow or the like.
Sanchez is pretty middle of the road and dumber than a bag of hammers.
Tack on a somewhat anti-semetic remark that got him canned and noones going to touch the guy.

AFAIK, Hispanic is a term for Americans who speak spanish as their first language, and does not define an ethnicity per se. South American Caucasians can be hispanics. So can Afro-Latin people.

I lol'd at this:
Unlike a lot of other television personalities who straddle that insufferable line between narcissism and insecurity -- they believe the world revolves around them but they desperately need you to believe it, too -- Rick's ego has always been bulletproof, and it's counterintuitively made him a breeze to be around because he has nothing to prove. In his mind, he's 100% sure he's the shit and therefore he doesn't need you to remind him.

I read Sanchez's statements that got him fired. Wow! He works in the business and still says that Jews run the media?!
Jon Stewart's statements last night were pretty noble. Digging up clips to support the belief that Sanchez doesn't mean what he said last week was perhaps a lot nicer than the guy deserves.
I've been giving some thought to Sanchez's statements about Jews in America. Let me make super-clear, I think he was wrong and he was very off-base.
However, it's probable the US is one of the more philo-Semitic nations on Earth (behind Israel). Certainly Jews have been an "oppressed minority" for the past 25 centuries or so, and they still experience discrimination here. But they often get a pretty decent degree of treatment in this country, too. If different ethnic groups want to get into a game of "who's more discriminated against in modern America", I suppose people like Sanchez can at least colorably claim that Jews are not the winners of that game. I don't know why you'd want to play that game or what benefit it has, but I don't pretend to understand everything. I do recollect my grandfather claiming we Irish were the most oppressed people, which struck me as (a) incorrect and (b) a really stupid prize to aspire to.
Obviously Sanchez was an asshat and I'm not trying to defend him, even in an oblique way. Like I said, I think the entire conversation over "who's more oppressed" is very weird. Actually, I'm not entirely sure what my point is, but I'll throw it out there and people can attack it as they see fit.
I don't disagree that oppression due to race exist but I think the degree of which a group of people are oppressed has much more to do with social status than race. We are starting to see more minorities reach higher social status and in turn I think the line is blurring between racial oppression and focusing more on economic. Then again, I should probably go do some reading on the subject before making a statement like that.

I would say the "newer" a race/religion/whatever is the more "oppressed" it is. It was the Native Americans, then it was the Irish, then it was the Italians, then it was the Jews, then it was the Blacks, then it was the Hispanics, then it was the Gays, then it was the Native Americans, now it's the Muslims. It's just.............the American way. :p

I agree with Ox. While his (Sanchez, not Ox) statements weren't what I would call smart, he's got a point. As a minority, Jews have it pretty good. What are they known for? Running Hollywood and banks? Maybe being cheap? As far as stereotypes go, those aren't too bad. And in my experience, they receive far less discrimination than Hispanics, especially here in Arizona.

I was very careful NOT to say that Sanchez had a point. His point -- that Jews run everything and aren't oppressed -- is false.
As for the negative aspects of the stereotypes about Jews, I think you underestimate the seriousness of accusing them of running the media and the banks. Conspiracy theorists tend not to be fond of the people they imagine are running the conspiracy. Which is worse: thinking someone is stupid, ignorant, and lazy, or thinking that he is secretly controlling the entire world's governmental and economic systems to keep you and your kind down? Which is more likely to engender rage and violence? I think it's safer to be an object of contempt than an object of resentment.

This is one of those things you hear again and again and I am curious what the genus is ( that Jews run the media ).
I can immediately thing of a few media moguls, Bloomberg, Murdoch, Ted Rogers, Conrad Black, Disney ( a rumoured anti-semite actually), Steve Jobs ( biggest Disney share holder ), Thompson ( of Thompson Reuters fame) and Ted Turner and of them, only Bloomberg is Jewish.
The predominate declared religion actually appears to be Christian/Roman Catholic, so if we really want to get down to it, the Christians control the media... :)

Jews get plenty of shit, it just tends to be lower key and less overt. I had some friends in high school who did the whole 'good natured ribbing' thing.. but kept pushing further and further and worse and worse and ended up having a general stance of being white power dudes. Yeah, shit sucked.
Jews don't control shit as Jews, there are Jews in places of power, (disproportionate to their overall population in the US, unless you break down income levels, in which case Jews are disproportionate, there are a good number who are financially successful) but they don't have some conspiracy, as there is no central organization. Hell, Jews in the US were given tons of shit until probably the 50s.
Look at the comic book industry, most of the early people in that were Jews, as they couldn't get real jobs doing advertising or anything else, comic books were the bottom rung.
All that said, Dick Sanchez is lucky we stopped with his job and didn't give him the Sheeny Curse.
Jews are overrepresented as a share of their population in a variety of industries. Media is one of them. However, since Jews make up about 1.7% of the US population, there's a big gap between "overrepresented" and "running things."
More generally, this sort of anti-Semitism has a long an ironic history. Traditionally, Jews in Europe were discriminated against in a variety of means, particularly in being legally disabled from holding most jobs. Jews could only hold a few jobs that were considered too vital to risk on religious bigotry -- doctors and royal advisers, for example. Also, Jews were traditionally exempt from the Christian prohibition on usury, so unlike Christians, they were actually willing to lend money to others -- thus, Jews were the early bankers. Of course, having been excluded from most other kinds of labor, Jews who wished to eat tended to become doctors, councilors, or bankers... which then led to anti-Semites freaking out that the most powerful positions in our society were for some inexplicable reason held by Jews.
