Also, that video reminds me of Resident Evil. It's almost like Valve didn't like the direction Capcom was taking the RE series, and decided to make their own game and set it in the old school RE theme. I have no complaints, because the old RE beats the snot out of the new RE in terms of settings and enemies. In other words, they are zombie games that actually have zombies in it.

Should be pretty awesome. I fear I'm going to end up feeling that the game will be funner if the infected swarms are individually tougher, slightly slower and numarically their are fewer of them...otherwise in the actual gameplay videos the player is just kinda firing wildly into a swarm of running, wilding flailing zombies no few visible results...it could get a little unsatisfying in that regard.

As for the running zombies, there's a few different types that come after you. And those types have a different...I dunno...skill/attribute going for them. Most of them don't run, they move towards you with some amount of speed, but no running involved.......

Unless you set off a car alarm or make loud annoying noises in general. Or you fuck with that witch thing.

Other than the boomer they all move pretty damn fast. All part of the storyline about how these are people and not merely shambling undead.

NONE of the screenshots I had seen in the past showed any sort of mutant zombies.

Now I know and this does slightly impact my expectations.

Yeah dude, I'd like that too, but think about it this way, It's an FPS, and if you have fully automatic rifles, shotguns, grenades, and four skilled players working together in co-op, the shambling zombies of movies past wouldn't stand a chance against that coordinated steady stream of bullets.

I'm sure Valve realized this as they began development and found a way to make the game tougher and faster. Fast running zombies from the Dawn of the Dead remake, and ZOMBIE HULK! RRRRRRRAAAAAAAHH!!!

From what I've seen and heard the game will probably start out as a traditional Zombie movie would. Although the Zombies will move faster, as in running, like in the Dawn of the Dead Remake.
Later the zombies begin to mutate and ZOMBIE HULK comes out to make the game tougher if you kick too much ass. Sure it's not a true to form zombie game... but then again neither was Resident Evil... come to think of it, have we ever had a pure Zombie game?
Even Dead Rising has psycho human bosses. So I don't think there's ever been a retail game that focuses on just zombies.

Man, some of you guys are really picky about what characteristics a "real zombie" should have. If you really think it'll be more fun to fight a bunch of homogeneous, slow zombies that can't fight back, I'm sure there will be mods on the PC that accommodate you. Or you could download Zombie Panic, which is a free Source mod which is exactly that.

The trailer was really well done, there's supposed to be one of these between each campaign, each one ending at the beginning of the next level.

Pretty much. I like the idea of fast moving vicious zombies, they'll make you think on your feet and have your heart pounding. The zombie hulks only arrive when the dynamic spawn system realizes you are really starting to kick ass, so I don't think there will be enough of them to ruin the zombie blasting good time for the people who don't like the idea.

And who knows, maybe we'll love the idea after all.
