my girlfriend just bought mysims for the pc and after installing it on her laptop it complaints that she should please insert the mysims dvd ...

the dvd had a visible hole inside the silver layer so we returned it - the guy in the store opened 2 more boxes until we found a disc without the hole

got home - installed it - "please insert the mysims dvd"

vista laptop (also tried it with admin rights) so we also tried it on my xp pc - no chance

i still remember when we could just copy the files from floppy disks and only where bothered with entering some words from specific parts of the manual ... good times

You dirty pirate! You pirated it, didnt you? Cos DRM only works on pirates, it doesnt harm consumers.

Oh wait, this is reality, and you've just bought something you cant use. I'd suggest returning it for a full refund or exchanging it for a different game. You could also just download a pirated version, but.... its a bit of a risk.

Hmmm - I wonder if PC game sellers would accept returns if a game doesnt work because of DRM? I mean, I know they wont accept returns if your computer doesnt meet the minimum spec, and I think they generally dont accept returns of open boxes because of piracy. But DRM is a different story.

Is this a DRM issue or a poor pressing of the disc issue?

Is this a DRM issue or a poor pressing of the disc issue?

thats the question or is it both :)

anyway - here the store would generally take it back if the game doesnt run on your system for whatever reason

the really funny thing is - the audience for this seems so small that you cant find shit about it on the net

i might talk her into exchanging it for red alert 3 ;)

Aha...I see what is going on here...this post is only to support your plan to get MySims not to run...so you can trade it in for RA3 ;)

The exact same thing happened to me!

Not really, but now you can say that you've read on a forum that it has happened to others aswell, so she might aswell get RA3, with doggies and bears and other cute animals in it!

Piracy is hurting PC gaming.

No motherfuckers, DRM and the jihad against piracy is hurting the hobby.

The exact same thing happened to me!

i will quote you on that - i actually already did :D

but for real - she needs a new game after viva pinata (which also needed some special attention to even start on her laptop - manually setting the resolution in the ini-files)

only problem - you dont even find this one on piratebay for example

another example that the drm in this one must in fact work ;D rofl

So you're going to exchange this game for another game that has more DRM on it?

hehe - good point - i honestly dont know - maybe we just return it for refund or some dvds

by now i would have prefered the spore like drm which is at least not dependant on functional (or properly pressed) disks, which btw runs just fine on the laptop

i just thought i would give you guys an update

we returned the game today and the guy at the store told us that they got a fax just minutes after we left the last time which ordered them to return every unit of mysims cause they were all lemons - some kind of production problem

so we got full refund

A "fax"? What kind of backwater store was this?

I guess it's better than them relying on the Pony Express ;)

All of the riders shot themselves when they realized they were carrying messages about something called 'mysims'. =)

You can download a no-cd crack.

not at gamecopyworld or tpb - as i already said - the audience for this one is so minimal you cant find sh*t for it
