Back in the day we had a little game called Gears of War that we played religiously every Tuesday night (well, every night for several months really). It's time to reinstitute my favorite gaming night of the week with its welcomed sequel.

I'm very excited for this and have been having Lekon vacuum chainsaw withdrawls as of late.

Gears 2 hits Friday, November 7th; who's with me?!!!

Possibly related to the fact that new releases come out in Europe on Fridays, and they're going for a simultaneous release date. Annoyingly, I've got a weekend-long LAN party that weekend. :(

The first Gears of War was released on a Thursday/Friday as well. I think Cliffy mentioned something about allowing for people to be able to play it for extended periods of time over the weekend.

On another token, I'd be up for Tuesday or Thursday nights, so whatever works for the majority.

From what I remember, all the promotion around the first game had a Sunday date, but retailers were told they could sell the game as soon as it arrived on the preceding Tuesday.

Friday is so far away :(

Yeah, I kinda remember hearing that too. I checked GameFly on the release date (11.09.06) and it actually was a Thursday that it was slated for release. Don't mean to be a dick about it though, I was just curious :rolleyes:

But yes, Thursday night/Friday is so far away and I have a huge exam on Friday afternoon :(

Im in a similiar situation. Add to that the fact that I have yet to receive the shipping box to get my console fixed ... and im looking at a November 17th (assuming I get the coffin today, 10 business days turnaround ...) playday for Gears 2.

Gears Tuesday was a favorite ritual that I long to revisit and seeing the old crew start to gather brings a giddy anticipation.

Liar. You just turn on the "chainsaw jamming device" attached to your chainsaw when you attack from the front. This instantly makes all opposing chainsaws ineffective. :p

Unfortuantely, the 3rd shot was my teammate in Wingman (DeathtollWRX), which not only exploded his head but downed me...

Yeah, it's new. If you hit someone square in the head, it should pop it off just like a headshot with the sniper rifle. I think the arrow keeps going too, so it should be possible to pop someone's head off and stick the arrow into someone else.

I managed that the other night in horde. 2 drones, popped the firsts head and stuck in the shoulder of the 2nd. Prolly never pull it off again but it was a beautiful sight to see. :)

When do the festivities start tonight? I was never a part of the old Gears Tuesdays :( and after beating horde with Kieleran and some other CoG'ers I definitely don't want to miss out this time around.

Ah, so this is why I was invited to play. If I had known that, I would have definitely joined 8-(. I was finishing up the single player campaign, though. Just as disappointing as the first game's ending, but the overall campaign was better.

I thought the game ended well, but the final boss fight was sort of pointless.

Both. I love[sarc] how this series strings it's story along with random events that make no sense, yet they give you the feeling all will be explained and not one bit of it is. I can't think of one question this game answered without adding a ton more. I'm all for mystery in a game, but it really seems like a cheap plot device when used the way they do.

Hahaha, I usually commence excessive chainsawing when there are five or less guys left 'cause that's about when the Locusts start getting more aggressive. Plus, it saves ammo! :D

I found that I was always running out of ammo when we were on Hail because I never hang out near the ammo boxes.

I liked the part where I lost my Lancer, so I kept trying to kill myself when there were only five or so Locusts left. I kept running up to them so they'd kill me, but everyone ended up killing them before they could do any harm. Luckily, I found my Lancer (or someone else's) the next round.

And I loved crawling over to Kojak to smother him with my man love before dying in his arms.

Nice to see that I'm not the only one who's crazy about the Aussie accent. :D It also made it easier to figure out to whom I was speaking.

Ah ok, I did check it last night but there seemed to be few people on. Ended up doing a Horde with some other friends and randoms. With the usual hilarious results and the insane guy running around Wave 30 with a pistol while the rest of us where holded up behind shields with tons of heavy weaponry.

River is hard to ignore because of the sniper rifle/torque bow in the house and the mortar on the bridge. Sometimes I'm weak and just go there for the easy wins, haha. :(

Anyway, yeah, we should play. Let's do 1-10 on the Flashback map pack, and afterward I might get the Combustible one. Maybe.

If I remember right, you're eight hours ahead of us. We'd probably have to play at weird hours to get on at the same time (or during the night/day on weekends).

My boyfriend and I have been splitscreening waves 1-10 of the Flashback maps because no one's ever online to Horde Gears 2 with us. The only map left for us to finish is Gridlock, which is pretty much one of my favorites.

I'm considering finally buying the Combustible Map Pack, but it's hard to bring myself to do it.

I keep meaning to do Hordes on the new Snowblind (esp waves 1-50) but the stupid public matchmaking for hordes always ends up with the old maps as not everyone has the new maps.

I have only played Horde on a few of the new maps, which is a shame as some of the snowblind have AWESOME potential for Hordes.

Sounds like this weekend might be a good one to get some Gears 2 multiplayer in:

Starting Friday morning you'll be receiving double XP as well as a 500 XP bonus awarded to the winning team. And to give a little extra bang to Horde we're bringing the Ticker squad (a group of Tickers that all spawn at the same time) into full effect.

They'll be showing up a lot more throughout all the waves of Horde and they've completely infested every 10th wave with nothing but Tickers. So if you've been having trouble with Bloodmounts, this weekend is a good time to get your Horde on and get further than ever before. And don't forget that TU4 will give you experience for every wave you beat.

Ticker squad = fireworks? Actually, thank god for the 'all-Ticker' 10th waves because Bloodmounts suck rocks.

Does that mean you will be on tonight? I really needed some decent people to play with last night. I played some public and got teamed with some of the worst players ever. I guess I've been mistaken with how Annex works. Apparently it means send one guy in (me) to capture and defend the zones while the rest of the team goes and dry humps the mortar.

Probably not, at this point. ;)

I do anticipate being on tomorrow night and this weekend, though. I'd hardly call me a "decent player," but I appreciate the compliment. :)

I'll be knocking around most of the weekend on the new maps if anyones up for some.

I must say, playing Horde on them is horrible, as you lose one player right at the start (who already has that achievement), have one more just sit there and let you guys gain him some easy xp per wave while he jerks off on his bed watching Hentai and the last 3 of you get to about wave 19 before you get slaughtered.

Oddly enough, I enjoy some of the new maps for Horde, there's very few places to bunker down, which make the clusterfuck battles rather amusing.

I'll probably gut a few hundred people on Executions too over the weekend, but the timezones are a bitch.
