Yeah, I'll get this once I polish off FFTA2, Front Mission DS, and CivRev DS.

While this game is perfect for a handheld due to the time requirement, I don't know if I can justify sinking the time into this game, too many other games coming out.

I'm glad to hear the transition to the DS went well though!

Damn.

Is so tempting, but I still haven't beat pokemon....

Screw pokemon, I'm not even having fun with it :(

I just picked it up a couple days ago, and I've barely put any time into. So far, though, I've noticed that is very technically impressive for a DS game. The voice acting sounds great.

If you have the PSP version, any reason to bother?

From everything I've read, no. It sounds like there's one or two new recruitable characters like Plenair, but most of the extras are from the PSP version. For me, since I've already bought the game on the PS2 and the PSP, and I'm spending plenty of time with Disgaea 3, I don't think it's necessary to buy it again.

This game is really crack with chocolate. I have a HUGE backlog and now this one comes in

I don't think I was every going to bother. I have 1 and 2 I haven't even loaded up. Looks like a blast and I can't wait to get into it, but not yet.

I have it on both PS2 and PSP as well and I haven't even beat it on either of those. :( It's a great game but I always get distracted with something else and stop playing.

Every time Nippon Ichi releases one of these games I end up sinking in well over a hundred hours into it. I'm getting pretty annoyed that they've been doing releasing their games right at the beginning of the school year. I'd much rather at the beginning of the summer, when my schedule is a lot lighter.

Disgaea PSP > Disgaea DS

Disgaea PSP > Disgaea DS

Unless if you don't have a PSP, then it's a no brainer.

This game is next on my list after I'm done with Etrian Odyssey 2, whenever that will be... I just got started with that game yesterday (finally), and boy the difficulty level of that game is hardcore indeed. And I'm loving it. :D

Ah crap, I forgot this game was coming out. I've gotta pick this up! There goes 100 hours of my life. :)

This game is too awesome. I picked it up the very Friday of the thread on PIRI, which I think was... the Friday after last. So far, I've put 30 hours on the game, making it my most played DS game ever. In fact, I've probably put more hours into playing Disgaea on my DS than all my other games combined.

Yep, this game kills. I haven't had the chance to spend as much time with this as I would like, but this is the sort of game I can return to and play a few rounds at any time, so I will when the new releases slow down.

So you bought it...three days into the future (from now)? :)

The game sounds great; I've never played a Disgaea game, but it sounds like we have many proudly addicted to the series!

Going to grab this as soon as I finish up with FFIV. I'm going to have to stop going on lunch breaks with co-workers so I can sit at my desk like a hermit and play DS. Only way I'm going to get caught up on this back log of games!

Man, grinding is so fun in this game, now I know what it feels to be a Korean PC gamer :p

I'm not sure what it is, but I don't feel like I'm grinding at all. I've become obsessive about leveling my items in the item world, so I just keep returning to level something new and from there, my levels go up exponentially. I'm extremely rich and my Laharl has some serious balls when it comes to dishing it out. So do all my other characters, especially my ice mage, which tends to do anywhere from 300-450dmg with just his basic "ice" spell.

But what is the deal with that? I don't seem to see any difference between Ice, Mega Ice, Giga Ice and the fire and wind spells as well. I generally do the same damage with all versions of the spells.

I think the difference gets more pronounced as you level up, as well as the spells themselves level up. Though it's weird that you're doing the same damage with each version. It makes me wonder if you've used the lower-level versions more than the upper-level versions, so it's balancing out a little (like maybe using a level 10 ice does about as much as a level 5 mega ice or level 1 giga ice...just a thought).

Smoof, are you checking what element the enemies are weak/strong to before you're casting on them? That may account for the damage not changing much.

Indeed, but it doesn't matter. All my damage is always similar and even sometimes less with the better spells.

That's incredibly strange. Are you sure you're reading them right? - is weak to an element and + is strong to an element.

Like frederec said, smoof may have just out leveled his lower level spells, I did the same thing. In my first play my lower level spells were about equal with the better versions until I started using them all the time instead.

This is probably what I need to do. I noticed my Ice spell is like level 8 or 9 while my Mega Ice spell is only level 3.

I just keep using Ice and my basic spells because they have massive range.

That is exactly the reason I kept using my basic spells, but I am sure you have noticed that they all gain better range as they level.

In other related news, anyone see Kefka's review of Disgaea DS over at 1up? (http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3170428&p=39) I am gonna have to take my mother's advice about not having anything good to say on this one...

Holy shit. You guys weren't kidding about the complexity of this game. I just picked this up for the DS last week, and I feel like I'll never stop learning new and different ways to do.... stuff... in this game.

Plus I really like the sarcastic sense of humour in this game.

What's the point of reincarnation if my Larharl is already level 43?

What's the point of reincarnation if my Larharl is already level 43?

It has been a while since I have reincarnated a character, so I am not sure that I remember right, but I think that your spells and skills remain the same but you start back at level one so you can keep building on your stats and spells.

Though like I said, I am not entirely sure I remember right.

Reincarnation – Reincarnation brings a character back to level 1, but retains allows them to retain a significant portion of their abilities and stats. I would recommend using this on Laharl at least once after he hits level 1000. Don’t bother with this until you can power-level. I would disagree with not reincarnating until you're able to power-level. You can see the benefits of reincarnation pretty quickly once you start doing it. The advantages are more pronounced at higher levels, of course. But if you've got a party of level thirty people, and one of them has been reincarnated once and brought back up to level 30 (which generally doesn't take as long as the first run), you'll see the difference.

Your spells and skills don't quite stay the same. You retain a percentage of your skills depending on how talented your reincarnation (how much mana you pay). Also, if you reincarnate into a different class, you may still have some skills but they'll be much less useful if your proficiency with that weapon is much lower.

I don't personally reincarnate until 7-1, but I think that waiting until level 1000 is ridiculous.
