something ugly
D39Lm_HRfOsTrue story: a kid in my high school threw a party when his parents were out of town, and by Saturday night the debauchery was mounting and the noise levels were out of control. A couple of people were on acid, the rest were drunk and stoned. The cops showed up and people started scattering like roaches. About twenty of us (including myself) got caught, rounded up into a paddy wagon and taken to the local drunk tank. We weren't arrested but they didn't know what else to do with us. Someone raised the idea that we were narc'ed on, (surely it couldn't have been the ridiculously loud volume of the stereo) and one kid who was peaking on acid starting singing "Informer". At some point he got stuck in a loop, rocking back and forth shouting "Informer... (blah blah blah) a licky boom boom down! A licky boom boom down!" to the chagrin of the rest of us and the other drunks in the tank. People yelled at him to shut up, but he was a bigger guy and nobody really tried to stop him. Besides, he was tripping and at least not freaking out, so we assumed "he knows what he's doin'" and left him alone. To this day I have a nearly physical reaction to that song. A licky boom boom down.

If you made it this far, you deserve this.

Well, he mumbles it, and you can mis-hear it as "fell asleep beside you".

Censorship is mostly done by looking for offensive words, and they miss suggestive imagery pretty often.

Which is why the song Lola by the Kinks EXISTS.

I believe it is some sort of unbreakable natural law that if you get over a certain number of semi-ferals around fire that one of them will be a lesbian with a guitar who plays this.

Censorship is mostly done by looking for offensive words, and they miss suggestive imagery pretty often.

Which is why the song Lola by the Kinks EXISTS.

Good example, since Lola was censored. The single version had to have a word in the album version replaced. That's right, in the original version, they drank champagne that taste just like Coca Cola.

Close, it's from 1990.....a remix of an 80's song. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom's_Diner#The_DNA_remix

It's DAMN catchy, but the song is about nothing. My wife and I always mock it by just talking about what we are currently doing, using the melody and rhythm of the song.

Yes. It was the only reason I did not watch the Dawn of the Dead remake.

I'm guessing you know this, but it was a cover by Richard Cheese and Lounge Against The Machine, which melted my face completely off. I've always hated Disturbed, but that cover was like cupid's arrow piercing my cold, dead heart. I was then reanimated as a zombie that can run, soley from the power of love.

OMG! You have no idea what you've done! I saw this video when I was around 11 or 12, and that chick was like the hottest thing I had ever seen before. I only caught the tail end of the video, and I was too distracted looking at her like a blow up doll in the chair that I forgot to see who sang the song. I thought I liked the song, but 1) I was ELEVEN, and 2) OMG BOOBIES!

I spent the past 19 years occasionally tossing "crucify" into whatever P2P program's search field that I was currently using. I got a cool Yngwie Malmsteen song, but never could find the one I wanted. Because of you, now I see it once again and see how terrible it is. But still, you've killed that demon that haunted me for so many years. He can finally rest.

You know, you have inspired me to make a thread on CoG for help in finding old things you can't remember well enough to properly Google it. I may not actually get around to starting this thread, so if anybody wants to start it, BY ALL MEANS! :D

yeah....I'm not sure what he's on about, because the only potentially lame song by the chili peppers I can think of is
That's what I get for trying to be clever.

I know, I know a beejees song originally, but the beejees were lame as well.

This thread confuses me. The Prodigy, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Meatloaf are all awesome.

As for all the nu-metal, it is lame, but it's also the music of my early clubbing days, so I'll always have a soft spot for it.

Nu-metal got me into metal. I wouldn't be the headbanger I am today without nursing at the teet of Korn, Limpbizkit, Paparoach, Hed(pe), FingerEleven, Spineshank, Coal Chamber, Dope, Mudvayne, Godsmack, Machine Head, Sevendust, Taproot, Snot, System of a Down, Staind, Static-X, Kittie and I'll stop right there, but the list could go on. Some of it still holds, not much, but it was a good stepping stone for a whole generation.

System of a down isn't bad and Machinehead don't suck anymore, because they went back to their thrash roots.

you know, I'm actually in a somewhat similar boat to scaryfaced, I suppose just add a lot of rob zombies unique blend of heavy guitar riffs, effects and his monstrous vocals...but I'm listening to more good Power / thrash Metal now than ever. I mean, there was a time there that I actually liked alot of the songs by Godsmack...now that shit just sounds as horrible now as it should of back then...oh well, we all learn to know better. I suppose that I gotta mention that I still like quite a few of Korn's songs, IE "Blind", "somebody someone" and "got the life". Blind in particular I consider it their best song - they would still be as popular as they were in the late 90s if they made more songs that was at the same quality as Blind*

I think the song is pretty good. The video...well, not at all. And it was the most expensive video ever. Which, after watching it again, still makes no sense to me.

I am not sure if it's been posted yet as I have only gone half way through the thread but this song always is the epiphany of bad music and video's from the 90's

I'm sorry but Red Hot Chili Peppers just fucking suck. All of their songs bother the hell out of me for some reason and it's weird because I usually like their genre of music.

Or maybe it's the practice of having 'tion' as the suffix for every fucking lyric they sing. That's when they got even worse. Red Hot Chili Peppers DEFINITELY belong in this thread.

It's complicated. I feel like RHCP are two different bands. After Blood Sugar Sex Magik I completely stopped enjoying their output. Go back to Freaky Styley and Mother's Milk and you'll find a band that influenced and continues to influence rock, rap, and funk. Listen to songs like Higher Ground, Taste the Pain, Sexy Mexican Maid- they kick ass. Californication, I can't stand.

Still, Under the Bridge kicks ass and Exodus's opinion is wrong :D

I am by no means elitist when it comes to music, but one thing that will get me on my high horse is RHCP "fans" who are completely unaware of anything pre-Californication. I like pointing them in the direction of Catholic Schoolgirls Rule and blowing their tiny little fucking minds.

I'm in Bone's camp as far as RHCP goes, but Under The Bridge is entirely played out. Its not a terrible song, but after the 50th time, he can go shoot his heroine metaphores right up his taint.

I feel like I can really dig RHCP with Frusciante. Sans Frusciante and I just don't care. Blood Sugar Sex Magik was by far their best album for me. I like some of their newer stuff though. Snow (Hey Oh) and Tell me Baby are great songs in my opinion. Perhaps I have a higher appreciation for RHCP because I play the guitar and I enjoy playing Frusciante's songs. I can understand why someone who is not a musician would not like the Chili Peppers though.

Here's the deal though, this thread is about the 90's and the majority of the Chili Peppers' 90's were Navarro songs. Ewww. So in conclusion, while the Chili Peppers kick all kinds of ass, they were pretty lame in the 90's. Early, early 90's good, but lame through to the new millennium.

Navarro's actually a better player than Frusciante, just not a good fit for RHCP. Navarro was part of arguably one of the 90's best bands (jane's addiction) who also gave us Lollapalooza.

glad i could help ^^
i liked the song too at the time (boobies and lingerine!), but i liked a lot of other things than which now seem lame ;) (boobies and lingerine are still not lame in the new millenium btw ^^)

We will agree to disagree. You are still dead to me, but respectfully so.

Just to be sure: what have you heard from Jane's? Most of their output completely eclipses the two or three songs that made it to radio. As far as musical and artistic importance goes, I consider them the 90's Led Zeppelin.

lol...I'm sorry, those are the only two songs I've heard and yeah, the lyrics must be yelled at the top of your lungs. I despise those two songs. Therefore I feel like I must despise Jane's Addiction.
