It's not a party until something breaks, or in this case until you leave a trail of flaming wreckage in your wake. Burnout Party Paradise is the first of 4 packs of Premium (ie for money) DLC Criterion has planned for the game in 2009.
Party Paradise will add something all too many current gen games lack: real local multiplayer. This pack will let you and 7 of your friends compete in a series of socially-themed events. Best of all, since the gameplay is pass-the-pad style, you only need one controller to have a party.
Criterion will also be releasing an Ultimate edition of Burnout Paradise to coincide with the Party Pack, it will include all of the DLC for the game to date, including the Party Pack.
The Burnout Party Paradise will be available on XBL and PSN in February 2009.

Is this the most updated console game ever? If not now, it sure seems that it will be in time.
Any speculations on the price? I wouldn't mind paying $5 for a pack. It's when things are $10 or over that it becomes less of an obvious purchase. They can sucker me into buying almost anything in the XBL Marketplace for $5.

This is how console games should be done. Get an installed base and keep adding to it.
I think it works for MMOs, why not a console game?

So no splitscreen? Even Burnout 1 had splitscreen.
Shouldn't they release the "Ultimate" edition when the LAST of the DLC comes out...so they can include all of it?

Good point. It's like KISS having 5 "farewell' tours.

That's the big loser in the current gen of consoles: no split screen (couch co-op) in some of the prettiest games, because you're trying to render two views of polygons instead of one. A real shame, too.

You know, if they bring back Crash mode, from Burnout 3: Takedown, I would be VERY much a happy camper! I love Criterion, I love the Burnout Franchise, but THE one thing that got me to love Burnout, was Crash Mode. My friends and I would play pass the controller, and play that one mode for hours. God I hope that they add that mode. The one in BO4 was a little worse, and I don't like the version they gave us in Paradise. Though, the rest of the game rocks.

I've noticed that no matter how big my TV has gotten over the years, I'm never happy splitting it up. Games hardly ever handle the view so that you aren't gimped in some way. If we can't all play in the same view-space, get the fuck out of my house and meet me online! Ah-ah-ah...leave the beer.
I really do love me some same-TV multiplayer.
Exactly. Part of the problem is that even when you do split up a modern game on screen, the high detail actually works against the visibility of the game in a small window! I enjoyed the hell out of Excite Truck (Wii) splitscreen though. Gears of War was a pain in the ass to see anything.

It's unfortunate that splitscreen play has largely fallen by the wayside, at least on the two more "advanced" consoles. That's one of the things I always really loved about console gaming! I haven't even bothered buying a second controller for my 360, and I doubt that I will.

All of the great multiplayer games are on XBLA. That's reason enough to get another controller right there. With Bomberman, Carcassonne, and Castle Crashers, you will be set for quite a bit.

When I read the title, all I could think of was, "I want to party with you, Jesus!!!"

I actually don't mind Gears' split-screen (or any other horizontal split-screen). For me, it was Rainbow Six: Vegas 2. I didn't like how the screen was divided vertically. It's like I had no peripheral vision. (It's possible that it allowed for horizontal split-screen and that I couldn't find that setting though.)
