OK, so P&R is out. Fine I can live with that. But, I have been asking for a Video Gaming Forum on EvAv for years. Something just to discuss games in general. Not specific to PCs, or consoles, or handhelds, or anything. Certainly, such a forum WOULD fit in with the goals of a Community of Gamers, wouldn't it?
So, yeah, hurry up and create the forum so I can create my ZP thread there. ;)
(FITBABITS, DON'T READ THAT LAST PART!)

The only problem I see with this is how busy that forum would actually be. I would think it could become a repository for multi-platform games and create yet another thread when there is already one in the others.
I'm not necessarily against it, but I do feel we need the Console/PC/Handheld division we have because one unified forum (which arguably this would be) would be crazy I would think. People would have to start tagging their titles with what system/platform they're talking about, etc.

Then why don't have we have separate forums for XBox, Playstation, and Nintendo? I really don't get the benefit of the subforums, to be honest.
It just seems so broken to me. I want to talk about a video game concept on a video game forum, but guess what... THERE ISN'T AN APPROPRIATE PLACE TO DO IT! :(

Are you talking like video game development when you talk about concept? I'm just trying to understand.
The subforums (actually, forums) are there because there needs to be some kind of division. If they were fused all together into an overall videogaming forum the onus would be on posters to tag the title with system/platform they are talking about. Although I can trust myself with putting such a tag on the title, I can't trust the users will and I don't want to have to go through every thread adding a tag to them, you know?

I'm not sure that I fully understand...
Are you saying you would like individual and separate subforums for Xbox 360, PlayStation (2, 3), Wii, etc.?
Also, concept? That appears to be counter to your earlier request...
Help an old man understand.

I had been asking for this for ages, too. There are some topics that just don't fit cleanly in only PC or Console gaming and that really would be best in having a general gaming forum. Having to flip a coin to decide where to put something can be frustrating at times when the answer seems so simple.

One of the issues is with multiplatform games... what if it is coming out on the PC and 360? Where do you put it? Or let's say you want to talk about the Final Fantasy series as a whole... that spans consoles, handhelds, and pc. Stuff like that is what I think the intent is.
Though I see a forum of that nature being very overused, or very underused. I'm not sure which.

Some example threads that might appear in a general video game forum:
What's your favorite game?
What's the coolest game intro?
What are you playing right now?
Let's talk about Half-life 2
FPSs with auto-healing are stupid
Zero Punctuation Reviews
What was the most epic boss battle?
Starting to make sense? Just talking about video games.

I don't REALLY want this, I was just saying, if we're all about being divisive and breaking things into subforums, why not keep breaking it down more?

I'm not privy to the inner working of Vbullitin. Would it be possible to create forums that share posts? So that for instance, you could have general gaming, pc gaming, and console gaming forums and anything posted in say the PC gaming forum would also show up in general gaming, but not vice versa. That way you create a space for people to post more general topics without segregating the forums too much.

I have asked about this before. I think the answer I got was "no".

I'll take your 50%, simply because it equates to most people's 75%! :)
