View Full Version : Weekend Gaming - What's in your Queue?

So how was your week? Too long and not filled with enough gaming? I know mine was. No paper writing this weekend, which might not be true in the coming weeks so I'm going to get some gaming time in. But what to play? Too many choices. Maybe I'll just play a little of everything, teasing my gaming palette until I get some real gaming time...which is the end of the semester. December 17th, you are so far away. My gaming buffet:

Dead Space- I'm leaving the lights on when I play.

Saints Row 2- Kill some time just causing havoc. I like this idea...

Little Big Planet - I'm hoping my copy comes in today. This goes to the top of the list if it comes in.

Silent Hill: Homecoming - I'm playing this during the day

Fallout 3 - I have the Survival edition. I'm to busy playing with the lunchbox and the bobble head. I'm a Fallout virgin...need to peek to see what this one looks like...

Guitar Hero World Tour - I think I need an intervention. I went from not playing any GH and zero interest in any toy playing game just a few months ago...to now where I'm dreaming of getting Rock Band for Xmas. Anyone want to join Ms. Claus and I in a band?

Fable 2 - hahahahahaha...delusional if I think I'm getting this away from Ms. Claus. But I can dream can't I?

Time Hollow - The Spigot recommended title. I need to show this little title some gaming love.

There is my gaming buffet. What's on your buffet and what will you be playing?

Just got Dead Space today, just finished the first chapter. So far it's been pretty good, the presentation is awesome, though I find it too slow when trying to look around but I guess that adds to the tension. Gonna try it tonight with headphones and the lights off.

I don't expect to sleep.

With bootcamp less than a month away:

Powering through: Fallout 3
Giving myself nightmares with: Silent Hill Homecoming
Heading down memory lane with some: Sonic
And general ass-kickery with: Brawl

Pretty much all I have time for even though I'd love to get into Fable 2 and some others.

Fable 2,

The Banjo, Mirror's Edge, Tomb Raider demo's again.

A bit of Fallout 3 but I'd rather save it for when I finish Fable, hope I have the discipline.

Still not finished Dead Space on PS3 but I'll also be picking up Fallout 3 on PC (released today in UK). Good times!

Fallout 3 baby! I placed my order today, Amazon delivers it tomorrow, along with the 3 Ghost in the Shell movies (I've only watched the first and most of the SAC series)

Well, since I already beat Fallout 3, I think I might go back to Fable 2. I do still have a few more places I'd like to visit in Fallout, so I'm sure it will still get some time over the week. I might try to see if a girl wants to come over tonight and watch some horror movies or something, as I'd hate to see a Halloween pass without doing anything to celebrate.

I don't want to put a downer on you but the first is by the best in my opinion. It's not that the others are bad, it's just that the first is extraordinary. Sorry for going OT.

Fallout 3, baby. I love this game so goddamn much, probably moreso than any game in recent memory (maybe as far back as Oblivion). My girlfriend may not, however. She was a bit peeved I came to bed so late last night, especially since I have to work today (Friday).

I'm just exploring the world right now. Taking my time and scavenging. But it's good. Real good.

I also have Silent Hill Homecoming that I received from Gamefly on Monday. I doubt I'll get to play much more of it because of the monkey on my back that is Fallout.

Fallout 3, trying to get through Fable 2 so I have more time for Fallout 3. Valkyria Chronicles, which is suffering from major neglect due to Fallout 3. Then maybe some Warhammer Online.

Dead Space, it's got my nomination for best sound in a game for the year. The sound work is outstanding, on a nice 5.1 system in the dark it really sets the atmosphere for the game. From the creaks and groans of the ships hull to the sounds coming from rooms you can't see, and how things sound in the vacuum of space with the muffled effect and your heartbeat pounding as you run out of air, everything just works.

Also I have sworn an oath to finish Oblivion and the Shivering Isles before I buy Fallout 3, so trying to get through some of that as well.

I really enjoyed the SAC series, I havent heard wonderful things about the other 2 movies compared to the first one, but I'm still keen to see them. Hey its not off topic, thats what I'm doing this weekend! if I'm not playing fallout 3.

I also have my tickets for Quantum of Solace tonight.

Hopefully I'll get to play a good bit. I've made it to the final act in Wild ARMs XF, so I should be finishing that up this weekend since it's only 4 more stages. More than likely I'll pop in Star Ocean directly after that, I've been looking forward to that game in some way ever since I finished SO2 back on the PS1 almost 10 years ago.

LittleBigPlanet will, of course, get a large amount of time. Hopefully I'll be able to complete all the story mode levels and the little challenge stages. After that I'll probably go back to the beginning and try to start acing levels for the extra stickers. I really should start messing around with the creator, I haven't touched it yet, but my OCD collecting reflex has kicked in with the levels and it's going to bug me that there's stuff I still don't have yet, especially when that stuff could be applied to level building.

I'll probably give the Mirror's Edge demo another few playthroughs, I really love the feel of that game. I couldn't see paying $60 for it, it just doesn't seem like there's enough substance, but I am curious to see what the reviews are like and impressions of the full game from people around here. I also need to try the Alone in the Dark demo that just came out, but my hopes aren't high.

I'd love to get in some FFXI this weekend, but I'm really not sure. Either I'll play it and it will dominate my weekend or I just won't get around to it. I really should get on and get some merits......

Headphones and lights off? A brave soul indeed. Great way to celebrate Halloween too. And you won't be sleeping for a few days...

The Banjo, Mirror's Edge, Tomb Raider demo's again.

Damn! I keep forgetting about those demos...although i'm going to avoid the TR demo cause I want to be totally virgin territory for me when I play next month...my TR issues are getting out of hand...

So you celebrate halloween by having sex? Wow...so sex only once a year? ;) Please start a thread if this date turns out to be interesting. I know a while back you wrote about a gf...it made great fodder for the threads :D

And holy shit...you finished Fallout 3 already???

Also I have sworn an oath to finish Oblivion and the Shivering Isles before I buy Fallout 3, so trying to get through some of that as well.

You are taking serious the analogy Fallout 3 is Oblivion with guns huh? You figure you want to finish the allegory pre-quel first? ;) I'm thinking go enjoy Fallout 3...of course I have no sort of discipline at all so i'm just speaking from like...bad habits :p

Well, if it reassures you, it's actually pretty good. Hope they keep the temple exploring at maximum and all the gun fighting, motorbiking, high tech stuff in the background cause that's where the former games went wrong imo. It really looks quite awesome.

I'm not against those sections btw, if they do it like Drake. But TR never pulled of satisfying combat. The coolest part of Tomb Raider was always entering a room to see some big ass beautiful statue inviting you to climb it.

The Banjo, ME demo's are fun as well.

I have a lot of family commitments this weekend, so not a lot of gaming for ole Rak. What little time I do have to delve into imaginary worlds will be spent with Fable 2. I love this game so much it hurts. I want to wrap up my evil character's story and start on a good character.

I also expect Fallout 3 from Gamefly either today or tomorrow, so I may get in a little bit of that as well. I do want to at least finish my first run through Fable 2 before getting wrapped up in Fallout though. If Fallout is to my liking, I may just buy it and spend all of my gaming time playing through Fable and Fallout over and over again.

I bought a copy of Pure during the week, so I'll be giving that a bash this weekend. I'll also no doubt be running the usual heroic dungeons in WoW this weekend to kill a bit of time.

But the one that I'm most excited about this weekend...is Rock Band! The game that you guys have had for over a year and have already gotten a sequel to...yep, they've finally decided to release it over here! I ended up getting the instrument pack yesterday (I've had the game since May) so I'll finally be able to try out the drums....oh which also happen to be the very first version of the drum kit, not one of the later, more reliable revisions. Awesome! :o

Please pardon my sarcasm. I'm an Australian gamer. :D

Unfortunately with the end of semester coming, my queue every weekend now includes studying for an exam or writing a paper it seems.

Whenever there is actually free time though...

Dead Space - with lights off and headphones! On Chapter 4 now
Farcry 2 - only touched this for about an hour
Fallout 3 - Never played the others so this seems pretty interesting, only about 45 mins in so far.

Fallout of course.

I have been trying for awhile but folks need to download and patch the CoH bance beta. I really want to get back into that. Send me a PM if interrested, I am shooting for Sunday afternoon. Bonus, players new to our motly band get to be on my team the first game(lessons in CoH and a near guaranteed win). Oh and as a gentleman's agreement, no bang bus.

Dead Space- I'm leaving the lights on when I play.

It's not that scary. I can't handle horror games most of the time, but this one, no problem. More of a Gears of War type horror (though I'm playing on normal mode).

I haven't had much time to play lately with a midterm and being sick, but I should get a chance to play this weekend. I plan to play Fable 2 because I am not as far in it as I would like to be. It seems like I never have enough time to play Fable. Though with santa's list of weekend games I don't know how much I'll play we only have one gaming tv. Also Guitar Hero World Tour sounded like it had some good songs when santa was playing so I am looking forward to co-op with him

Fable II - Just finished the story, but gonna start a new character and see just how EVIL I can be.

Dokapon Kingdom - A board-game/RPG for Wii that, other than its simple-looking style, plays a LOT like TALISMAN.

The EXACT same thing has been happening to me, just replace the word girlfriend with wife. The wife is usually pretty understanding but still reminds me to go to bed so I am not useless at work. She woke up at about 2:15 this morning with me beating giant mutated moles with a stick (before you say anything I was playing Fallout 3).

I haven't been this obsessed with a game since Final Fantasy VII. I love the fact that when I explore the world I am not only rewarded by a little experience but I feel like there are material rewards. Not only material rewards but material rewards NECESSARY to my survival. I would never imagined a desolate wasteland would have so much to do and not feel like I was grinding or doing the same old thing the entire time.

Not gonna have much time for any serious gaming this weekend.

After the Genesis Birthday thread, I've decided to retrogame it up, and remind myself of the days when Halloween still meant something exciting to me. Genesis, SNES, even some NES.

My first targets, being the season, are Demon's Crest for SNES, Splatterhouse 2 for Genesis, and Monster Party on NES.

Anyone have any Halloween'ish picks from those 3 systems? Keep in mind that I'm still trying to play halfway decent games or I would have picked Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street...but...just no. I have a lot of games for all 3 of em in some storage bins. I have every game I've ever bought, I don't sell or part with them.

She always goes to bed before me on the weekends, but almost always asks me what time I went to bed. I can go to bed at 1 or 2 AM and still get up the same time as her, about 7:30-8ish. I try to get my sleep on the weekdays (I work 10 hours a day, 4 days a week so I need it).

She's been living with me for about 14 months, so she knows how it is. Every other day of the week we go to bed at the same time, but sometimes, when I have a hot new game on my hands, I stay up a bit later on Thursdays. It's the end of the work week, who cares, right?

She doesn't mind I'm a gamer, but I do think she gets irritated sometimes. Oh well.

I subjected my girl to my 24-hour marathon a few weeks back. She was a good sport: helped me get my Saint's Row 2 avatar looking like me and kept me company on the Ishimura. :)

Her son tried to teach her Halo 3, but that's a bit of a leap for a non-gamer. I'm going to put LBP in her hands and let her loose.

I was half compelled to start the game again, which is rare for me and I think is probably a testament to the game's enjoyability. Had it been a slower time of the year, I actually might have done so.

This weekend will be either Little Big Planet, Fallout 3, or Dead Space (which should arrive in the mail from Gamefly today). Not sure which one will grab my weekend yet.

OMG. I LOL at this since it's something i've done many a nights. I think we could start a thread on stories of gaming and significant others. At least she accepted the love. Or so it seems...I'm thinking many others would of kept glaring and told you to keep warm by the machine instead. And I'm going to keep my guess what "loving" you were feeling at that moment :p

Why do so many great games come out at such a busy time of the year? It's just not fair. Damn it gaming companies, don't you know I have zero self control and end up procrastinating on very important school work to play your damned games? Why must you torcher me so?

On that note, I'm playing the write a paper due today game, followed by the write another 2 papers due Monday game. I'll also be trying out the take your CSET game tomorrow afternoon after the go to Saturday class game. It's going to be a fun weekend!

Heh. My wife hated the red and black colour scheme on Evil Avatar because I spent so much of my time either there or gaming. Now I'll have to mix up the theme I use for CoG so that she can't tell what I'm surfing :)

Thanks for putting this thread up, Purple Santa. I didn't realize your last name was actually Purple :) And good job with working on Time Hollow. It doesn't take very long to beat but it's quite satisfying.

Anyway, back on topic...

Now that the LBP servers are up, I've been fiddling with some of the user created levels. Of course, they're fluctuating wildly so who knows how much online play I'll get with it. I also have a level or two to finish up in the main story mode, so we'll see how that goes.

I'm also going to try to spend all of my evening gaming time working on Dead Space. I'm on the latter half of Chapter 6 and I figure that I should be able to finish it up by early next week if I work on it. Then the battle to resist opening my Fallout 3 CE will commence in earnest. I've also got Fable 2 and PAA:OTRSPOD Ep. 2 to play if I get bored.

I'm working this weekend though, so there might be some portable gaming done if time allows, but I'm not holding my breath.

I was just starting to dig Fallout but was annoyed by the number of hits enemies take to kill. It just felt stupid backing up to shoot a rat in the head 6 times before he died. Then I saw this video:

I'm not even sure I want to keep playing this game now. Bioshock showed the right way to mix these genres. Just putting guns in Oblivion doesn't work.

Wow. That video definitely makes me NOT want to play the game. That's ridiculous.

It does look literally like Oblivion with guns in that video, which IMHO is not a good thing.

Of course a big part of that is the engine. The Gamebryo engine is just like Unreal Engine 3 in that all of the games that use it have a very similar look and feel.

It's not quite that bad for most normal enemies in my experience thus far. Though it does, on average, take 6-9 shots to down the bandits I've come across.

I'm actually enjoying the game and the narrative is certainly far more interesting than Oblivions. But if you took Gears of War's aesthetic and shoved it on top of Oblivion, this is what you'd get.

The story for Time Hollow has me intrigued. I'm not in it very far but it's the type of story that keeps me wanting to play. Unfortunately, I think i'm going to pick up the new Castlevania and this might cause me to put down Time Hollow.

Speaking of massive failures, I was dressed up as Freddy Krueger tonight as I went out with my kids to gather candy from the candy fields. One of my neighbours asked me if I was dressed up as a Hasidic Jew. Sigh. Dressing Up FTL!

That's when I had to show her that my glove wasn't just for show...

I'm going to watch some of the Nightmare movies tonight in celebration of Halloween! In my neighbour's defense, I just threw on a fedora that I had sitting in my closet and wore the $0.25 Freddy glove that I bought at a thrift store a month or two ago. Otherwise, I just looked like a scruffier version of me wearing an orange sweater.

When I was younger, I went all out and made my own glove and put an oatmeal concoction on my face to give it the proper texture. I wasn't doing that this year :)

I love the design, music, combat and the overall game world. There's so much to do in this game. Amazing stuff. These past weeks have been amazing; first Dead Space and now Fable 2. Both GOTY candidates IMHO. This is an excellent time to be a gamer.

Far Cry 2 is sitting on the shelf and waiting for me to finish Fable 2, so I might start playing it this weekend. I also want to play through Dead Space again. Maybe some more Mirror's Edge as well.

And next week is Gears 2 time? Sooo much to play.

I'm planning to try LBP today sometime. It's going to be hard to put down but I want to try it. Otherwise it's been demo trying weekend. I played Mirror's Edge last nite and it was very cool. Reminded me of the old Tomb Raider. The controls did anyway and the precise platforming you needed to do to stay alive.

I would go back to Dead Space but its the lack of save anytime anywhere that has me pushing it aside for now. Which is frustrating cause I do want to play it. Mag: I respectfully disagree with Santa. Fallout 3 is an interesting game (from what I can tell watching both my roommates and my boyfriend play, as well as playing a fair amount myself). However, what I am most interested in is the story, and I feel like I have to dredge through a bunch of boring, useless nonsense to even get to sidequest-related story. Oh you can disrespectfully disagree. It can't hurt more than when Ms. Claus does it :p. The dredging through the boring parts to get more plot...you just described most RPGs and other heavy plotted games. That's the issue at the moment with interactive fiction. With few exceptions, to move along the plot you sometimes have to do the boring stuff. I'm not disagreeing that it may be indeed boring but it's just part of the "fun" in gaming :D.

Just hit the R3 'button' and follow your way to the next waypoint in your mission. Between the checkpoints and very smartly positioned save points, you rarely have to replay very much even if/when you die.

I've only been able to play in hour-hour and a half chunks and have never felt like I've wasted my time while playing... unlike some thing like, say, Force Unleashed, which had some of the worst positioning of checkpoints and save spots EVER.

Fallout 3, baby. I love this game so goddamn much, probably moreso than any game in recent memory (maybe as far back as Oblivion). My girlfriend may not, however. She was a bit peeved I came to bed so late last night, especially since I have to work today (Friday).

In my place it's me playing Fallout 3 until 3am. KefkaTaran had to ask me to bring a 360 power cable from work so that he can play games this weekend too, on his computer monitor.

I feel the exact same way about Fallout 3 except at this point I'm willing to say that so far I like it even more than Oblivion. And anyone that listened to Evil Avatar Radio back in my day will remember how I feel about Oblivion. Week one: "I'm playing Oblivion, really like it." Twelve weeks later: "Um, still playing Oblivion, still adoring it." Still waiting for horse carcasses this time around.

I am already falling off the FallOut 3 bandwagon. The game just seems insistant on giving me a bunch of stuff to sink time into but I have the same problems as with Oblivion. There is no real sense of reward for exploration since things are randomized: enemies, items, and environments. After about 6 hours of exploration, everything feels the same. I can see this being a fun game to waste time with in between releases, but it seems to really lack set pieces and interesting concepts that make me feel truly drawn in.

Funny you should mention that. My seven-year-old kicked my arse three times in a row on Meteos; genuinely, with no 'slacking' on my part. I was (jokingly) moaning and groaning to my wife that our daughter was killing me, and my kids were getting a real kick out of it. :)

I haven't had much of a problem at all in the game. Some enemies have more armor, and I end up shooting them some more, but not THAT much.

I have so much money at this point and I haven't bought a single bullet or stimpack (I'm extremely CHEAP...and have only slept in beds in "dungeons" to heal). I sell (and steal) a LOT of loot back to the stores and thus I have somewhere around 2k in caps just sitting around. I have about 400 10mm bullets, which is still my default ammo despite having many other great weapons, and like 20-25 stimpacks...maybe more.

Are you using the BB gun as the default weapon or something? Seriously though, what skills do you have...do you have a good small arms rating if you're using those types of weapons? Also, how about the condition of the weapons themselves? The more damaged the weapon, the less damage you deal. I have a decent repair stat, so I frequently keep my items taken care of. Sometimes I'll pick up multiple weapons from dead enemies and use it to repair the other weapon. Definitely helps. Sometimes I do that and make armor/weapons more valuable and sell them back to stores.

I haven't found the sorts of problems you're having, though I'm only level 4 or 5. I'm having a shitload of fun and this is, for now, my GoTY. While it does have some things in common with Fallout (the graphics engine mostly, for me) this is definitely Fallout and not Oblivion with guns.

I'm loving it so much.

No No, VATS is the acronym for the combat system. You know, where you get to target body parts. It even tells you how many HP you are going to take off on the attack, by body part. You just have to use a bit of strategy sometimes. I almost NEVER attack in real-time, but my small weapons skill is around 55 and don't miss my target too much in VATS. I enter VATS to attack, and sometimes if an enemy is close to death and I've run out of AP I'll fire off a round in real-time to finish them off. Or club them with my baseball bat or other melee weapon.

I haven't wandered too far off, just explored the Super Duper Mart for a mission and Springvale School in depth, so no Super Mutants for me. But yeah, they are supposed to be the tougher enemies in the game I think.

My S.P.E.C.I.A.L stats are:

Strength 4
Perception 7
Endurance 6
Charisma 4
Intelligence 8
Agility 7
Luck 4

I get many more skill points at level up because of my intelligence and I've found a bobble head for Strength already, bringing it up to 5. As you see, I'm not a strong character at all. Are you playing on Hard or Normal? I'm on Normal. If you're on Hard, that's probably why our experiences are that much different.

I predict that you will be sucked in this time, Spig.I'm hoping I will. The setting and aesthetic is something I haven't played countless times already (unlike Oblivion/Morrowind/Daggerfall). I prefer games that have a more linear path and solid story but I'm going to give Fallout 3 the old college try once I get a few other things off my plate.

And The Darkness was a great game. I recall it getting pretty decent reviews at the time but it's a shooter that plays best when you're not using your guns. Tentacle kills FTW!

Agility 7
Luck 4

Wait, you never attack in realtime? I never attacked in anything BUT realtime. I'm not even sure how you do otherwise. I don't recall the game ever explaining to me how to do so. I had heard about the VATS system in previews but I assumed they were like magical abilities that you acquired later on in the game.

So perhaps I have been playing it wrong. But to my knowledge, the game never explained to me how to play it otherwise.

Umm when you shot the rad roach with a bb when your a 10 mayhaps?

I think you're having a "fell of the horse, need to read the instructions" moment.

As for The Darkness, I remember it being critically reamed. Though COG seams to chat about it favorable, now I wonder.

Heh, I figured as much. I've attacked in real-time very seldom. Fallout 3 isn't meant to be played as a FPS. It's more of a turn-based game. You can still play it as a FPS, but you'll get dire results.

I own the game, but I didn't read all of the manual. I forgot from the interviews and videos that you can queue up multiple attacks in VATS if you have the AP (action points). So, for instance, I can have my character attack one guy in the head and another guy in the leg and torso. Or attack the same guy in the head 3-4 times. I was playing the game, for the first few "dungeons" I went into, by attacking one time, getting pushed back into real-time, then entering vats again. I didn't realize I could attack more than once until I did it by accident in Springvale Elementary. Now I'm doing much better. :)

And I'm pretty sure your father teaches you about VATS when you're 10 years old. He gives you the BB gun and has you kill the radroach after all. You can probably kill it in real-time, though.

Once you start doing VATS, I'm sure you'll enjoy the game 200% more. :) Hit the right bumper when you encounter an enemy and you can go from there. HAVE FUN!

It's almost time to put you on ignore. :p
Ms. Claus wonders how you haven't done that yet. She keeps telling me she wishes there was a ignore button in real life...
Thanks for the feedback. The negative things I'm hearing about this game have made me think twice about picking it up.
If I hadn't bought it already what I have been reading would make me hesitant. So I can't blame you. However, reading more in this thread seems to have shed some light on one of the issues. I'm glad I am not playing yet...this will certainly help when I finally do play :D
Haha, well all you need to do is call me an idiot and you are there. ;)
See I will annoy you so much more creatively to get you to put me on ignore. Calling you an idiot is way to easy  :p ;)

I love how you haven't bothered to add me.
Ms. Claus told me not to under further bruising. She says you are HER friend ;). But since I got the "angry mag" smiley...i'll go add you now...hope your gamertag is MagGnome...

Edit: <whispers> buy FO3...

You're probably going to really enjoy the game. Just don't play the game like a FPS or you're going to get burned.

I think the combat (VATS, which stands for Vault-Tech Assisted Targeting System) is my favorite part of the game. Sometimes the camera will follow the bullet in slow-mo, usually for a critical attack, and I love that. And with the combat system I can plan out my course of action. There can be quite a bit of strategy involved.

I love battle systems like this. It's very reminiscent of RPGs from Bioware, or other CRPG titles of the past, where the game gives you a chance to "pause" before you enter combat, (like Baldur's Gate and KotOR) and lets you plan your attack. Of course, the real time option is always there, but if you go that route exclusively you might find yourself a bit unhappy with the results.

Thanks for the great advice. This is why forums like this are so great. If I wasn't here, or isolated from other gamers I would be playing this possibly like a FPS and really not enjoying it. Then shelving it having not really experienced the game the way it was meant to be played. I know there are games in the past, before I began haunting game forums or websites that I know if I had some insight from other gamers, my experience might of been different.

And this is why I like this thread so much. It's so much more than what you will play or played. We get our views of the games which goes in all different directions. Some good stuff comes from this.

I'm going to try to play it that way today. Thing is, I have never played any of those Computer RPGs that use a "Pause" type system. The closest I came was about 30 minutes into Knights of the Old Republic, so that is probably why it didn't register for me. I just killed that rat at the beginning of the game in real time. Perhaps my father did tell me about the VATS, but I may have just missed it (I had a few drinks that night).

But if anyone was wondering what it would be like to play the game as a FPS, I have conducted that experiment for you and can tell you it is frustrating. You will waste a ton of ammo and medpacks and always be broke.

I think it actually would have worked if they would have rebalanced it so that the free shooting does about double the current damage and they increased the number of ammo drops if you killed them that way. Why not give people the option to play it that way?

Reading Kelegacy's post has made me want to get the game again. I guess if it's awful I can always blame him. :p I love games that let me roam around and explore various areas and "see the sights" so to speak.

I'm still going to wait a month or two to buy it though. I need to spend more time with Fable 2 and Dead Space first.

Ok, this game is far, far easier using the VATs. But now I still have a huge hole to dig myself out of, so I'm going to have to spend a couple of hours raiding and leveling up to make up for the shoddy condition of my inventory (broken weapons and low ammo and health items)

I rented GHWT and although I never played RB at all...it felt like a poor imitation of RB from what I have read. I'm enjoying GHWT, but it's a rental for me. I will buy RB/RB 2 if I don't get it for xmas. For me, RB is the one to own.

Well she's not feeling well and is napping the day away. So no bruising today :D. So for today she won't mind. And I promise not to hint to you anymore about FO 3 since you intend to buy it. I understand the need to finish games you have now...i'm more interested in playing demos and multiplayer on said demo than actually playing a game I have laying around :o

Making mental note...when playing FO 3, when being taught by dad and have to kill the rat...PAY ClOSE ATTENTION.

Now you can have some serious fun. Remember, you can attack multiple times (and multiple enemies, just flip to another enemy with the right stick) when you enter VATS (I call it queuing up attacks) if you have the AP.

I just dicked around a bit without VATS, and I wound up with some fatal headshots by surprise. But yes, it's VASTLY easier using the turn-based battle system.

Gotta love those slo-mo attacks. Bursting heads is so nice!

Oh, and I just realized you can blow up cars. Never knew that. Beware the radioactive energy, from the alternate reality fission batteries within, however. The blast radius of a car is pretty darn big, too.

Hell, I don't know how the hell EG got as far as he did by only attacking in real-time. Gotta give the guy kudos on that. I would have been frustrated as hell.

But I'm sure dear old dad tells you how to attack the radroach at age 10 (or the game tells you how, since it's one large tutorial essentially). You have to kill the roach for the mission to end, but I guess how you do it is up to you.

Coming back from impossible odds can be fun IMHO.
