So you're having problems downloading from Steam are you?

Whether its a full game download (Fallout 3 anyone?) or just the latest popular update to TF2.

If you are having speed issues, check out this possible solution.

Step 1. download TCPview from Microsoft's website and then unzip it and run it.

Step 2. Locate the Steam TCP (NOT UDP) connections and right click and close connection.

Step 3. Wait a few seconds and see if your speed increases. If it does not repeat step 2.

Step 4. Enjoy faster speeds.

Service pack 3 for XP reset the tcp receive window to an abnormally small figure. if you put sp3 on you need to retweek that setting for performance.

Not pre-caching Fallout was ridiculous.

And it would be nice is valve pre-released patches like Blizzard, and then installs them later.

This intwrnet stuff is not new, but some of the arcane problem still present are just dumb.

Most annoying thing about Steam for me is that it never seems to auto-update games. Wheneven I load up a game I havn't played in awhile it downloads some big pactch right then instead of in the background.

Not sure if this interruption of connection would be a reason or not.

Not pre-caching Fallout was ridiculous.

Which is not up to valve or valves or steams fault... it will be up to the publisher if the game is pre cached or not and it seems publishers are either a bit skitish about having there game out there even in a encrypted form or they wanted to save money on the server costs

If I get the problem, I'll be sure to check this out. My last time using Steam to D/L a game saw me maxing my connection at around 800 kB/s though, so I guess I have not run into it.
