It'd still be a 512MB frame buffer, so it'd be a moot point. It'd be faster but at higher resolutions/AA it'd tank.

Ooops...thought it was a 4850, not a 4870.
In that case, wait until the 4870 1GB..that's what I got and it destroys stuff...and runs quietly...well, the Diamond one does :)

I would watch out for the Sapphire 4870. I got one of these in my new build originally and I found that they had a problem where they would randomly crash while playing games. I switched it out for the HIS 4870. Who knows, maybe they fixed the problem though.

Fry's Electronics has the Diamond HD 4870 1 GB model for $280 this weekend, after a $20 mail in rebate. I think it might be the first purchase for my next system.

I've heard rumors floating around of some pretty crazy sale prices around Thanksgiving for video cards. If you can wait, I would.
