View Full Version : WeekDAY gaming(8/30/10)- What are YOU still playing?

A double header ender for today/this week. We have the typical end of the weekend which coincides with the ending of the last full month of summer. Looking at temperatures for the week summer seems to be leaving kicking and screaming. Soon enough though we will be hearing from our own ace roaming weather reporter gnome who states fall/winter begins somewhere in September for him so reports of snow will be filling the week threads soon enough. Currently though, another hot steamy filled week is ahead. Melt or not melt that is this week’s question.

As for the weekend rewind, I failed at my personal promise to play with more variety this weekend. Well to play something other than P3P. I did break out of my Persona induced coma though with:

Mafia 2- needing a break from battling shadows and social links, I worked on becoming a made man. A fun factor of 4.5 so far.

P3P- broke the 100 hr barrier. Only 42 more to go to beat my personal P3 record on the PS2!

How was your weekend? What did you YOU play?

I played Last Remnant, still leveling for those big battles, level 80 now.

I also put in Ratchet & Clank CIT, Blur, Dragon Age, LBP and some other stuff. I'm bored and need new games worth my time real quick.

DR-Case Zero hits this week, so might check that out. And there's a Vanquish demo somewhere as well.

Next to that it will probably be Last Remnant and BLUR mostly.

First day back to school today. After a morning full of awful meetings, I plan on getting my room ready while watching "Life" (narrated by David Attenborough, of course). I always like to show these types of films to my kids when we are talking about zoology and evolution, but I haven't actually seen most of the episodes myself yet.

When I get home, I will sit in my chair and play Persona 4 for about 15 minutes before falling asleep.

Also, I posted this in the deals thread, but if you plan on getting Fable 3 when it releases, you can preorder it at Newegg for $45 (free shipping).

I mostly played Valkyria Chronicles. I'm getting into more as I play. Though I did discover that it has an evil feature - mid battle saves. Nothing but trouble, evil temptation, and cheating has resulted from this.

I also picked up Deja Vu for the NES, and played it on my shiny new NES/SNES/Genesis combo machine. I played until, of course, I got stuck. This is despite having beaten it those many years ago when my cousin and I rented it. My wife's constant suggestion for when I'm stuck is to hit something.

I also pulled out and played Rez. That game is still beautiful and trippy and fun. I'm a little jealous of the people who can play it in HD on the 360, but not too much.

My work laptop died over the weekend, so I'm using my wife's mini while trying to figure out how difficult it will be to get all the work done I need to while it's getting fixed/replaced.

I've been playing a lot of Dragon Age Awakenings and Infamous. Both are significantly better than I had been expecting. In the case of Awakenings, I think that I may actually like it better than DA:O. It's a shorter, but much tighter and faster moving story line. And they've added a lot of high level abilities to the classes that I really felt like the were missing in DA:O.

I never bothered with Infamous before, because I always had the impression that it was mostly just popular because it came out at a time when the PS3 library was incredibly sparse. While it definitely has a little bit of a launch-title feel to it, like the original Crackdown, the core mechanic of the game is still a ton of fun.

Finally hit level 50 in Borderlands, which means me boy and I are on to deal with General Knoxx. My daughter and I are on year 4 of Lego Harry Potter, and are making our way though the dragons.

I'm still plugging away at the SCII campaign, I'm really curious to see how they tie everything together storywise.

Darksiders was what I played the most of, though it wasn't a whole lot. I made it to Tiamat last night, but after dying twice decided to let it go and try to take her down tonight.

My kids made me smile yesterday, they asked me to play games so they could watch. Well, my 3 year old did, his 2 year old brother just set yes and laughed. So, we played a lot of random things: New Super Mario Bros Wii, Robotech: Battlecry (they love robots, man that makes me wish I still had Metal Arms), Klonoa 2, but we finally settled on the original Jak & Daxter. They really really loved watching Jak & Daxter, pointing out the orbs and where all the other items were, and while the game is a bit fugly by today's standards the gameplay held up pretty damn well (HD collection please, Sony!). I have a feeling we'll be playing that a bit before bed time tonight, gotta hook 'em young on the gaming. :p

But the main event starting tomorrow:

This (http://www.amazon.com/Retron-System-NES-SNES-Genesis-Sega/dp/B003O3EFY2) is what I got. (It also comes in black, but my wife liked the red.) It's not the only one out there, if you want to shop around. It comes with wireless controllers, but I haven't tried them yet (I hear they're just okay, and I need a screwdriver to open the battery port). But it comes with two ports each for NES, SNES, and Genesis controllers. The most important thing about it (to me) is that it has composite/s-video hookups (the top-loading NES I have only goes through coax). I hear these combo systems have issues if you try to use multitaps, but I don't foresee myself wanting to do that.

I've only tried the Nintendo aspect so far (thought I pulled out Super Metroid and U.N. Squadron with intent to play), but it seems perfectly fine.

I'm still playing Borderlands and I'm still getting headaches too. I think I am going to limit my play sessions to a an hour or so instead of four or five hours. As long as I don't break out into a full blown seizure. I've never experienced having a seizure but I have seen a friend have one. That does not look fun.

I want to pick up Valkyria Chronicles II but I think I should beat the first one before I do. I should get on that.

I got smacked hard with the layoff rumour this morning until I realized it was derived from something I have known for a few months. That information is just now making its way down the rumour chain. If/when it happens I'm not sure I have enough "in" with new team and boss to survive this time. They are several hundred miles away and have no idea of my dedication and hard work ethic ass kissing abilities.

I spent most of my gaming time this weekend working away on DQIX. I got some new grotto maps while at Fan Expo yesterday and I got my head handed to me by the Boss slime knight at the bottom of one of the level 2 grottos. Bah!

And I made it pretty darn close to the end of Chapter 12 in FFXIII.

This week's gaming menu comprises mainly of:

DQIX (DS) - Duh. I am hoping to finish the game tonight or tomorrow so that I can feel a little less addicted :)

Valkyria Chronicles 2 (PSP) - This is coming tomorrow and while I am excited for it, I've kept my interest low for some reason, likely because I would like to use my PSP to play...

P3P (PSP) - If I finish DQIX, I'm going to get back to work on this. I need to not get distracted by other games!

FFXIII (PS3) - If I get my act together, I might beat Chapter 12 before work this morning. I won't have to be into work until 3pm tomorrow, so I'm going to do my damnedest to beat the game before work.

Mafia 2 (PC) - I have to get back to work on this, but first I'm going to wrap up these JRPGs that have been vexing me so.

Mafia(360)-Jury is still out. Only an hour or two in for a total of 5-6 split between the PC and the 360. Still sort of waiting for something cool to occur and click. Thought the freeroam hack in the PC version was fun for a bit.

Adventure Quest(PC Flash) Stupid adventure game with flash graphics and basically a click and choose type game. But I played a bit Sunday and was instantly hooked again.

Sins of a Solar Empire(PC) Sad...they guys can't patch a fucking game to save their lives. Every patch no matter how small is a cascade of failure either with bugs or for the mods you try to us. The vanilla game is fun but with mods its pretty damn amazing. Sadly getting the Trinity working and on the proper update to get a mod to work is like fucking an angry Komodo Dragon. Technical, scary, and just not fun.
I can now see why so many of the mod groups were so testy on their forums.

Got our new appliances today. Guys who delivered them were very nice and very fast. They look great even though they are just black and the fridge isn't any bigger than our last one. A better use of space though.

I'll be playing more Arkham Asylum today hopefully. I'm trying to locate that guy without a hand, the security guard. The asylum grounds are covered in pods. I don't know how close I am to the end.

Wife is going to test out the oven now by baking some muffins.

I mostly played Torchlight this weekend. Slowly working my way through the second half of the game with my Alchemist. I might pick the Destroyer back up now, too. I originally played him offline and missed some achievements but now that I got them I think I want to play some more. I like the warrior types in these sorts of games more. I have yet to try the Vanquisher. There was also a tiny bit of TF2 the other day with Master Blaster and SpcialK. Fun times. Also, Master Blaster is an awesome medic.

I got a fair amount of Monday Night Combat in of Friday. After that I worked on Desktop Dungeons more. I am so addicted to that game. I won't be happy until I have beaten every dungeon with every class.

Also yesterday my girlfriend, myself, and a few of our friends rented kayaks and paddled around the rivers in Pittsburgh. It was a beautiful day and a fun way to get some exercise in. After that we went to Primanti's for dinner. It was an awesome day.

This weekend I watched the 2nd and part of the 3rd season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, went token hunting in ModNation Racers, and played some Dante's Inferno. This week, the plan is:

Dante's Inferno - Continue to work my way through Lust. I'm really glad I borrowed this instead of purchasing. It's a decent GoW clone, but only worth a rental, IMO.

Elemental: War of Magic - Like jpublic, I'm waiting for the v1.1 patch. However, I'd like to try my had at modding and see what I can come up with.

EverQuest II Extended - A friend convinced me to give this a try.

P3P - Someday I'll reach the top of Tartarus.

Job Hunting - One of my least favorite games, but necessary.

Right now it looks pretty crappy because there's stuff all over the place. I was telling my dad about Mafia 2 and the authentic music the game has. He was so shocked a game would have that music he wants to see me play. He said he didn't care about the violent acts if he were able to see my character in a car listening to the music he loves so much.

Either I will be outsourced, my job will be outsourced or some of the tech apps will be outsourced and I will deal with a 3rd party. If I get the "I get outsourced" good package I will get severance and keep my current salary. If I get the bad package I get to work for another company and lose my current vested time and no severance package. I've seen it go both ways. Of course, there is always option 3. My job gets outsourced and I get the boot.

I restarted Fable II over the weekend and have been mucking about... but just not feeling it. I want to get it done and dusted before 3 drops for some crazy reason, but I can tell it's going to be a slog because I'm doing it more because I feel I have to than any real enjoyment from playing.

Assassin's Creed II. had this sitting in a drawer for the past 2 months and got it out last night. I feel a bit daft for leaving it this long, to be honest. I've been really enjoying it as a departure from the normal Sandbox routine.

Case Zero. Out tomorrow and I can't wait for it. My old version of Dead Rising won't work no more so this will tide me over quite nicely until mid-September.

Monday Night Combat. Been a bit lax here too. I need to get more time into this over the next week.

I tend to get diminishing returns on any games that require choices, since I often find that I'll play through just choosing the other options that I hadn't done before. Since the large majority of Fable is about playing with those choices, I can see how it might not work for some.

I guess in a sense it's more of a actual roleplaying game, the story is super quick and paper thin, with a large aprt of the game around you how you interact with the world and build your reputation BUT a lot of the social systems fall short and it's too easy to 'cheat' which takes away a large part of the notion of repercussions or outcomes.

I really enjoyed my first play of both Fable games, and I'll be getting III when it's out. I'd rather try these games and not enjoy them them on further play throughs than not have played them at all.

I'm interested in Fable 3 but I'm with you with regards to Fable 2. I actually did have some fun but it didn't rope me in the way I'd hoped it would. I'm right around the portion of the game where I have to either muck around in the world a bit or do the thing that basically moves the story ahead 10 years or whatever it is. At least, that's where I assume I am given the things that Big Bertha is telling me.

I might get back to Fable 2 after I put FFXIII to bed. I would like to see it through to the end just to see if it will grab me. The sad thing is that I LOVED the first Fable while most people moaned and groaned about it.

I'm actually surprised at how much I'm enjoying Singularity. Sure, it's a Bioshock clone, but it has its own style and the story is intriguing enough to keep me interested. Echoes of Half Life 2 here and there, as well. It's a nice, simple little shooter.

Cool. Singularity is a game I definately want to try. I've heard people who really like it and people who hate it. Games that are split like that intrigue me because I'm curious to see which side of the fence I'll come down on. Kind of like the debate around Other M right now.

Well, I'm off to my sister's to help her move to her new place and sign my eldest niece's cast. She was climbing a tree when a branch broke and she fell, breaking her arm. She tried to tell everyone that she fell on her arm, but thank god for her sister. Her little sister, hereby dubbed "truthsayer," witnessed the event, and was able to accurately describe the fall: "She fell on her face, Uncle Dave.":D

Fragile - Hopefully I'll actually finish it this week.

DQIX - I've just been buying things in the DQVC each day. I might end up not working on it much since a lot of other stuff is coming out, but maybe I'll try to fit in finishing the story at least.

Resonance of Fate - I'm near the end of chapter 2, and I'm really liking it so far. Trying to unlock as many hexes on the map as possible is addictive. The combat is definitely pretty difficult, although that might just be because I haven't figured it all out yet. I had to retry the first boss five or six times, but I like that it has the option of being able to retry any battle with everything reverted back to the way it was or to pay extra to fill in your gauge (I think; I haven't used that option yet). The regular retry only cost 200 rubies when I had about 30,000, so not bad at all.

Gorvi, I meant to respond to you in the WeekEND thread, but I didn't get to play as much as I had wanted. I think you would like the game, especially if it being challenging is one of the main points for you. That boss battle I had to retry wasn't actually too bad the time I beat it, but it took a few tries to figure out a good strategy, and the game will definitely hurt you if you're not careful.

Valkyria Chronicles 2 - Of course this is my game of the week (month/Fall/etc), but I have no idea when Amazon will actually ship it. Hopefully before it says it will. At least I have a ton of other things I need to do before I should play it.

I'm so close to the end of FFXIII I can taste it. I'm going to give it the old college try tonight after work and see if I can finish it up. That said, I hate the level design in Chapter 13. It's just a good thing the map is good or I'd scream. It is everything I tend to loathe about dungeon design in a JRPG, but it does look pretty.

The upside is that my party is pretty powerful now and battles are pretty short affairs. Man, I love the battle system.

Yes, LOTS of Half-Life 2 in there. I loved Singularity. It's far from a perfect game and quite arguably not worth the full asking price, but it's one I've been recommending everyone to at least rent and try out.

God help me, I've loaded up Infinite Undiscovery again.

Infinite Undiscovery is one of those games I've started about three or four separate times but have yet to complete. Last go-round (about a year ago), I got a good 10 hours or so in and had some strong momentum going, but I ended up getting distracted by Arkham Asylum. :(

That dungeon is sooooooooooo loooooong. But yes, the battle system is really shining by that point. I had all my party members built up pretty hardcore by the time I hit the final boss battle -- I think I had them to max of level 9 for each of their main roles -- so the end wasn't TOO frustrating for me.

Level 9? I've hit Level 4 for each main role and there's nowhere left to go with them aside from working on the other roles...

I've got a pretty good set of strategies that essentially guarantee victory on each fight. I have a part of Lightning, Fang and Hope and while I want to switch that out somewhat, I'm so used to playing with the three of them (I've been using that threesome since Gran Pulse) that it would feel weird swapping Sahz or Snow or Vanille into the mix, even though I can see that some of their stats are higher.

Er, was it only 4? It's been a while since I played. Either way, once you're maxed out on the main classes, you're pretty much solid for the end. And yes, Lightning, Fang, and Hope are probably the strongest combo. Others are higher/better on certain things, but from my understanding, Fang is easily the best physical damage in the game, while Hope has the strongest magic, and Lightning is just well-rounded.

Phew. I thought I had picked a crappy team. I heard that there was a special ending or bonus stuff at the end if you played a lot of the game with Hope on your team, which is another reason why I kept him on. Plus I needed a healer/synergist and he fit the bill.

Kefka probably meant he had maxed out the stuff opened up by Crystarium level 9 and Spigot meant level 4 for the class roles, so you meant the same thing.

I played a pretty decent bit of Darksiders yesterday. I beat Tiamat easily this time and made it to the next "dungeon" after fighting alongside..... ok, the name escapes me, the guy with the hammer who's name starts with a "U". It's weird, the game is starting to feel easier now the further I get, so I'm even more thankful that I'm playing on the hardest setting. I can only imagine how it would be on normal, it would probably be getting fairly boring.

I was able to pick up Valkyria Chronicles II yesterday, but didn't get much time to play it. I did the short install and played the first battle, and that's about it. The game looks and feels great, so very much like the original, but I knew that already from the demo. I can't wait to play more.

And on a personal note, the terms of my divorce are finally set. I've got primary custody of my kids and I have the house, so that's a huge weight off my shoulders. Two weeks and it's official.

Spig: Hint for the end bosses - make sure you have Aggression combo (2 Comm, 1 Rav) set up as one of your setups.Man, all three 'forms' of the final boss were pains. It wasn't that they were hard, per se, but they had annoying insta-kill attacks that would take down Lightning if she happened to be slightly below max HP. Grr. They were a lot tougher than I expected, esp. the second form. But it's done now, and I'm happy.

I can see why it must be strange going forward into the post game stuff given the events of the ending. I really did like the finale though. It's not up to the standard set by the ending of FFX, but it was satisfying and things were resolved in a way I didn't quite see coming, so that was cool too :)

And it looks like there's another level of the Crystarium unlocked. I guess I'll fart about a bit more :)

Edit: Now that I've fired up the New Game + kind of save file, I see that the post-game stuff isn't technically post game. It just gives you a chance to start right before the final boss and go back and do more grinding for CP and such. That's kind of cool.

Finally got to the computer this morning. Been too busy lately to even read much!

Got up WAY too early to go into work so I fired up World of Tanks (http://game.worldoftanks.com/registration/cbt/). It looks like they started the next level of beta testing but I haven't seen any difference... except that some teams are starting to use wolf pack tactics. Very efficient and quite effective against single enemies; Especially artillery and tank destroyers.

I bought a Jagdpanzer tank destroyer this morning to research the German tank destroyer branch of the tech tree. Got my rig fully leveled up with highest level tech: Treads/suspension, engine, radio and gun. Also trained my crew up to Elite status. All ready to start working on the next level of tech, but I might stick with this rig for a while. It's pretty bitchin' and lethal!

I was just going to swing by EB on the way home from work (which isn't really anywhere near my drive home) but my son wanted to come, so I was going to take him. Sounds like a sinus headache. I get those a lot when there is a change in weather (Humidity, air pressure). I usually take a REAL Sudafed, the stuff you have to sign for at the pharmacist, or a Tylenol/Motrin Sinus tablet. A really steaming hot shower sometimes cuts through the congestion and inflammation of the sinus tissues and provides some relief.

Bah. Now you have me wanting to put this on my "to be play list". I wonder if it's cheap on Gamefly.

I've heard good things about Singularity, at least as a rental or cheap pick up. I was expecting it to be another Timeshift, but it looks like that's not the case. I'll certainly grab it as soon as I see it hit $20.

If it isn't now, it will be soon. It's definitely worth a rental...don't know if it has enough legs for a purchase.

I gave Dante's Inferno back to my friend. I refuse to continue to play a game when it is no longer fun for me. I'll probably give Darksiders a go since it was delivered yesterday.

My niece got her cast, it's blue, and I was the first to sign it.:D I took my camera along, and got a couple of good pictures of her and her blue arm. We were also entertained by my sister dancing badly to YMCA by the Village People. I'm debating on whether or not to post it to Facebook.

I'm still plugging away at Borderlands. It's getting to the point of me wanting to be done with it. It's not bad but every time I try to get anywhere not in a vehicle I have to deal with those damn Ants/Skags and whatever else was placed in the game to be an annoyance and hinder your moving forward. I think I must be getting close to the end. I just went through the back door to the Crimson Fastness. I have not found the game too difficult so far.Actually, pretty damn easy since almost half of the major battles have been easy due to bugs preventing the big bad guy from reaching me.

Breakfast pro tip -Don't make your cereal with half and half. :) I made a bowl of cereal and took a bite. I thought hmmm... ...this taste different. Then I noticed how thick the "milk" looked. Damn it. I love Land O Lakes half and half in my coffee but I don't think it is a good replacement for milk.

Oh, and the headaches. I've lived with migraines most of my life but even those sinus or whatever headaches suck hardcore! I hate headaches. They are so disorienting and annoying. The migraines are almost unbearable.

I've played games like that. My personal tip: don't let your parents store the Bugles in the same cabinet as the cereal.

Also: As amusing as it may seem to put chocolate milk over Cocoa Puffs, the reality isn't quite as fun.

A few reasons I might buy instead of rent: I have my $5 GF coupon, I'm hoping for a GF sale again soon and I don't want to clog up the Fall GF slots with this game. Anything under $20 (The Gorvi Game purchase line) will suffice.

You should try Almond milk in your coffee. I switched recently (Thank you Mr. Gnome) and don't miss 1/2 & 1/2. Plus, you can eat it in your cereal :D

I'm probably going to play some Wolverine Origins tonight. I could stand a bit of a palette cleanser from all of the JRPGs I've got on the go.

And my son and I played the Wipeout game for the Wii for a bit this afternoon. It's definately not a good game but it's fun in short spurts and my son was having fun. One of those games that is mindless fun for kids. I'm glad I'm just renting it.

I should also try to finish off DQIX tonight or tomorrow. I SHOULD be right at the end...

BB & PS: it was definately a sinus headache. Pretty much vanished when the rain came through.

A double header ender for today/this week. We have the typical end of the weekend which coincides with the ending of the last full month of summer. Looking at temperatures for the week summer seems to be leaving kicking and screaming. Soon enough though we will be hearing from our own ace roaming weather reporter gnome who states fall/winter begins somewhere in September for him so reports of snow will be filling the week threads soon enough

The average daily temperature here has fallen twenty degrees in the last two days, so you're not far from the truth. I'm already fearing the snow that will likely hit in the next six to eight weeks.

I know I'm late to the thread. Oops!

Got past Croc's lair tonight in AA. I also received my new headphones from Amazon, along with the first Bakshi film, Heavy Traffic. The headphones are comfy and work great via my optical plug-in on the tv (so now I don't need to have my headphones hooked into my PC speakers and can move my computer back into the office). However, the sound is a bit...muted? No, that's not right. Everything is great and the bass is much better than the ones I was using--those old ones were very treble heavy and no bass. However, Batman sounds almost like he has a cold, like he's stuffed up maybe. They're "surround sound" optical/coaxial headphones with a 5.1 decoder, cheap ones but they're really nice for the price (about $18, which is super cheap). But this is the only fault I can find. I guess it's the tradeoff for better bass.

I am picking up on sounds that weren't audible to me before. I had to pause a couple times because I thought someone was downstairs with me or breaking into my house. Fortunately it was just the game.

My son is sleeping over at my parents tonight and we miss him. But we'll have a full night of sleep anyway. Not like we are sleep deprived as he sleeps really well, getting up only once per night (hell, I get up much more than that each night!) but I'll probably still wake up in the night and check on him only to find he's not there.

Thank God tomorrow is friday. I've been training a new girl all week and I have had to work more than I have in a long time. It sucks, as she's a hard worker and I'm the supervisor-type guy who knows everything but tries to do less work. I'm gradually pulling myself up out of grunthood.

UGH. I just found out my crazy roommate has decided that, since her boyfriend broke up with her, she needs to move out and get her own place (I have no idea how that makes any sense, but whatever). Awesome. Since I don't really want to pay for this place on my own, I'll probably be looking into getting a different place.

I love moving.

Borderlands is done. At least I am done with Borderlands for a while. TBH, it isn't that great. It's fun for the most part but the ending was just an ending.

The bugs made the game easy. Even on the last boss I sat behind a rock and plunked away at him taking no damage. It seemed like most of the major battles provided a place for me to stay out of the reach of the bad guys.

I guess lucky drops makes a big difference too. My 3rd class mod was a merc mod that provided 44% SMG damage and ammo regen. I never changed class mods again.

Regardless of how easy the game turned out to be I pat myself on the back for finishing it. It's been a while since I played a game to the ending credits and then some.

Played some Wolverine: Origins tonight and it's fun, but I think I may have had my fill already. Plus it locked up when I was on a tear through the Weapon X facility, which told me it was time to stop playing for the night and just watch a movie.

Time to head on up to bed and maybe play a bit of VC2 before snoozy-time. It's still kind of toasty in here but it definately has cooled off a bunch.

Wipeout? The game Gorvi loves so much on the PS3? I don't want to know how that shoe horned onto the Wii.

BB's diagnosis made sense. I tend to use a hot compress when I get them and it does relieve the pain. I think i'll stock up on some of BB's med recommendations too.

Exactly. They were $18. Stop reviewing them with expectations they were high end headphones ;)

If you ever break your piggy bank and get a good pair of headphones, that feeling of "hearing" things will only increase. Playing games like Dead Space and/or other creepy games with headphones increases a games atmosphere. Some games I don't mind not having to hear the creep sounds so close. It's bad enough I won't play Fatal Frame without the lights on.

I'm not rich, you mofo! And headphones are pricey! I need something that doesn't require a receiver (which I don't have) and something that can be plugged into an optical port (which my tv has). No headphone jack on my HDTV. And these headphones were apparently $200 when they first came out. Cyberhome went under I think and now they have been selling for peanuts. If I had a reciever I could further decode the 5.1 audio. There's a port for it.

The reviews on Amazon and elsewhere were predominantly good, in some cases claiming they were better than much more expensive sets they owned. And they are super comfy and they cover my ears perfectly. My Aiwas, which I tried back on last night to compare, didn't cup my ears at all. They just sat on them apparently. Never noticed that. Background sounds like my wife's voice and the living room tv are greatly diminished, whereas with my Aiwas I was almost always aware.

$18 will keep me happy until the day comes when I can rationalize a $200 purchase on headphones and pick up some Senheissers or whatever they're called. But plug-ins are the biggest issue. Do they make RCA --> optical port adapters? Being able to plug directly into my TV and bypass the PC (along with the price) sold these to me. I am not going to buy a home theater system or a receiver for just my games in the den.

The audio is great...except for some really flakey deep sounds (the dulled effect, like Batman's voice in a couple instances) but everything else sounds great. I only used it for a couple hours, so I'll keep messing with them. Maybe I'm just imagining it because my Aiwas were very tinny and had little bass if any at all.

I think I'm not going to have a roommate. I had lived by myself for over a year before this, and I really liked it.
