It arrived Tuesday, but I didn't get to play it until late Wednesday. I was going to play for an hour or two, but wound up playing for five hours.

The game started off slowly. I wasn't overly impressed by the graphics - expecting more after hearing 'it's the CoD4 engine!' over and over - and the aiming seemed off, zoom in to shoot and I was continually aiming low of where I expected. I've had two days of non-stop Gears of War 2 though, so I think that's what was throwing me off - the aiming in the two games just 'feels' different.

The aiming adjustment was out of my system by the end of the first level and my disappointment with the graphics was gone by the end of the second. The game's worst level is (at least so far) the first, it just keeps getting better as you go.

Good:
• Graphics keep improving through the levels - lighting and smoke effects are impressive when used heavily in certain environments

• Variety in the levels - it's not all 'stop and pop' shooting from cover. You'll run through levels in an almost action-game style sequence from time to time

• Variety in combat - it's not just shooting, get up close and trigger Takedowns (click in the right stick, then do a single prompted button press)

• Stealth! You can use silenced weapons or Takedowns to sneak through levels - haven't made it through an entire level without being seen, but it might be possible

Bad:
• That first level isn't a very impressive intro to the game, though it ends strong with the classic 'spin and shoot'

• X-ray enemies - once alerted they seem to always know where you are, even when distance and darkness are on your side

• Some confusing level layouts - it's not always easy to know where you're supposed to go, though the guide arrow is pretty good about showing you the right direction

Finished it up today, a bit of a disappointing end "boss" battle, but overall a decent game. Hoping to find someone for multiplayer at some point.

How much time did you end up putting into the single player?

I thought it was six-seven hours or so, but going by the Achievement unlock times it was a lot closer to four hours. It's weird, because I would have sworn it was a lot longer than that.

I don't like the direction of the new Bond movies (dumbed down action movies FTL), and it looks to me like the game isn't much better.

How could 2 full Bond movies come out to 4 hours of gameplay? How do these developers keep screwing up these no brainer games?

I'll just ignore it entirely, thanks.

4 hours?
Would honestly anybody buy this game for 4 fucking hours of game play?
maybe they should have spent time on the game instead of wanking to pictures of Daniel Craig.

4 hours lol. Hahahahahah, how the hell can they expect people to pay for that.

Eh. 6 bucks for four hours isn't too terrible. It'll be like a really long movie that I get to control.

Really? Really? Really?

Just stop talking about movies, as the last one was not "dumbed down action movie" and it's not like the James Bond movies were ever anything other than "dumbed down" action movies.

Well that's where you and I will have to disagree.
Let's just say that Daniel Craig's James Bond reminds me less of Sean Connery more of Arnold Schwarzenegger in Commando.

Yeah, ignore this one.

About the only thing they got right was the totally frantic action of the first few levels. Everything else about the game is bunk.

I don't like the direction of the new Bond movies (dumbed down action movies FTL), and it looks to me like the game isn't much better. The latest flick is actually closer to the Ian Fleming books than some of the other movies ever were. Not exact (some of the action and locations are different) but a lot closer than anything we saw in the Brosnan flicks.

The problem with Bond is that it's a franchise that struggles to be relevant. The Bond from the books was a secret agent that fought in WWII, had a desk job most of the time, and very little in the way of gadgets. The whole thing was very much inspired by the cold war.

the post-cold war bond has had a rough time, because it's harder now that there's not (really) a cause that everyone believes in (like the soviets etc).
