Lord of the Rings: Conquest Raids Mordor for a Release Date

Electronic Arts has announced a release date for Pandemic Studio's Lord of the Rings: Conquest.

The game will be released on the Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC on January 13th in the US and January 9th internationally. LOTR:C is being developed by the same team which produced both Star Wars Battlefront games.

Set in “The Lord of the Rings” universe , players will finally fight the entirety of these epic battles any way they want. In addition to crusading as the heroic forces of good, for the first time ever in a ‘Lord of the Rings’ action title they’ll conquer Middle-earth while playing as the legions of Sauron’s evil army, including Cave-trolls, Oliphaunts, the Balrog and Sauron himself.

That can't make the evil campaign too exciting...The elves are leaving, Rohan is a shattered shell guarded by women and the elderly, Gondor hasn't exactly fallen but isn't in the best condition, some of the Nazghul are still alive, and the last remaining forces of Man would be crushed if it weren't for the ring's destruction.

...uh...spoilers? LOTR spoilers? Do those matter?

Did EA ever acquire the book rights as well? They obviously have the movie rights, but at one point the licenses were owned by separate companies, with the now defunct (RIP) Sierra holding the licenses to the novels themselves.

I need to watch these movies again. It's been too long.

I had a friend raving on about this, but I wasn't very interested until I read that Co-op preview.

Just wondering how the combat works overall, being much more melee based. Does it still have that battlefront vibe or more of a Dynasty Warriors feel?

Melee characters don't feel like Dynasty Warriors at all, if you button mash you're fucking toast! Scouts can stealth around the field and make surprise attacks, which give you one-hit kills against other players. (This is extremely hard to do unless your target is standing still, which is rare)

Ranged classes (Mage/Archer) feel more Battlefront-esque, but with a lot more utility. I had a lot of fun with the game.

That's a damned lie. The first mission is to collect money from your bitches. Course they never have any, who the hell would want to sleep with an orc? For that matter I wonder how they reproduce.

My friend who's been pressuring me to get this is the exact same goodies-only type. I really wouldn't mind being a balrog once in a while and stomp his ass.
