Should I ReBuy a 360? [Archive]

So, in the divorce, I get full custody of the PS3 with no visitation rights bestowed upon my Ex-Wife :p

However, the 360 remains in her custody and I am forced to remove my username from said system before Aug 31.

So my question is...should I bother re-buying it when I have the money, or just get stuff for the PC and PS3 from now on?

How much 360 exclusive stuff is there on the horizon that you really want? I want to get a new 360 for Fable 3, but the worst case scenario is that I buy the PC version. There's not much else that interests me.

I bought Shadow Complex, but I beat it. I own a ton of XBLA games, but rarely play them (I did beat SotN though :p). Most are fluff, like Uno and Worms, but some are good games.

I own Arkham Asylum for the 360, when I knew I should have gotten it for the PS3...and Alan Wake. There are lots of other games, but her main ones are Dragon Age, Mass Effect 1 and 2.

It would be a few months before I had the dough to get one, mind you, mostly because I don't want to stretch myself too thin and I need to get used to living on my own and come up with a decent budget. After rent I have around 500-600 extra a month TOTAL. Food, Utilities (only electric, thank god), Cellphone (no land line...seems pointless), Internet and helping out with my son's financial needs whatever they may be.

Plus, I want to actually open a savings account and SAVE money as well.

Truth be told, I can probably survive without a 360, or simply start fresh once I get a new one, rebuying what I had to, etc. But I dunno. I mainly just wanna play Alan Wake and a few other titles.

I voted yes, but after reading your latest post, I say save the money but put some aside to eventually get one again. There are many great exclusives and fun XBLA games to make owning every console win/win for any gamer.

Funny side story, I got custody of my 360 but forgot to remove her account from it. Not that she used it, but when a girl I had been dating asked me to make an account for her, I did...but she saw the other account there when I went to sign in as her.

Ended up being a whole "Who is that other girl!?!?" scenario. She knew I was divorced, but I guess it bugged her knowing her name.

Moral of the story...delete her account from your PS3 if she had one on there!

I bought a new slim 360 and have my old (working) standard, non-elite box that I'm looking to get rid of. Gamestop doesn't pay jack for them anymore and I was just going to craigslist it. I'd be more than willing to ship it off to a CoGer on the cheap.

Yeah, content is tied to both the xbox and the account. So anyone on THAT Xbox can use it, and THAT account can use it anywhere.

One thing we both agreed on was to never do anything like that around him, ever. And we're civil for the most part :p

This thing is just going to sit here. They only go for $100 on craigslist around here and that's not enough to really care about the money. I'd rather see it used by someone on CoG.

If live doesn't matter or past game replays, then look at the exclusives you want.
I would remove any choice and just say save the cash for family and savings.
However, I have both and would still be without many of my favorite games if I just had a PC and a PS3. The 360 is a good purchase especially at their price drop.

Unlike others, the few exclusives for each actually matter to me. I also replay games that are a bit older and frankly...to be honest...are shit on the PS3. Not to start a war, but I think we can be honest now after the sting that those created has lessoned and actually be honest.
That doesn't happen near as much as it did. But I replay a good deal of games and those universally play better on the 360.

So save for family then get one later.

Hawk. I also have a couple extras and would have no issue sending you one until you can get back on your feet. Totally up to you if you don't end up taking others up on the same offer.

There's not really much in the way of exclusives these days. You wouldn't miss out on too many major releases anymore unless you're a Halo fan.

I've never seen much reason to have both consoles unless you have money to burn. There have got to be better ways to spend $300+ in your situation (like 5+ games!) :) . Also, if you let a library of games build up, it'll just make it more fun to catch up down the line when you can more easily spare the cash.

But only you can decide how much value you'd get out of a 2nd console, and how much you can afford to spend. Don't go by a poll for this decision...

Our lan group has upgraded drives, normal to slim and so forth. Many have 1-2. 1 for home, 1 for laning and so forth.

Do you play Rock Band? If so, did you have any downloaded songs in your 360? If said said no to any of those then you'll live without a 360 as long as you don't mind the lack of Xbox Live.

I also said yes but... I'm in a position where I would really like to upgrade to the new model. But for now, I think we should both be saving our money as much as possible. Then we can take advantage of the inevitable price drop in 6-12 months. The games will still be there waiting for you.

So having a 360=great, but no hurry.

You know how when you turn 40 you are "over the hill", well... the 360 for me has seen its hill on the decline, and lanched kinect and the slim60 to try and gain some momentum.

games are the big question, but thinks like river rafting, gears, and more halo won't do it. Forza is a motion game now, and it just looks like a big ploy instead of something insane that I must have.

EDIT: I'm gonna polietly decline the offers (even the free ones) for a 360 to use while I save the money for a Slim. Mostly because shipping to Canada is a bitch, but also because I think less will probably be more right now. Dimes to dollars I would barely play the thing, at least until I'm settled.

Assuming you have a good PC, then no. Most "exclusives" on the 360 can also be found on the PC. I say save your money and do something useful with it instead of buying more plastic crap you don't need at a supposedly turmoil filled point in your life. If I was you, I'd be saving up big time for at least a few months. But you can do whatever you want, I don't care.

Much as I love my 360 I don't think I could suggest to anyone they fork over the readies for the machine when they already have a PS3.

I don't see much in the exclusive side that would make me think anyone needs a 360 within the next 6 months, but you do need to get on that shit at some point.

I know this won't be a popular option but I'd get the $199 version with 4GB and use some cheap USB drives to supplement your storage (unless of course you're heavy into Rockband).

The 250GB HD is ridiculously priced at $130 but that price will drop in time (when they announce an even bigger HD and discontinue the 250).

Or you could go with a cheap 250GB old version for $250.

I just saw a video of some dude crack open the hold 360 HD case and put the bare drive into the new 360. Granted it's not completely seated and I wouldn't try it horizontally but I don't think it will be long before someone makes a case for old 360 HDs (which are super cheap now).

This has me thinking of getting a 4GB down the road.

You're lucky... my first wife robbed my bank account to the tune of 90% of our savings which I earned the lions's share of, took our only car, and fled with half the apartment's worth of stuff, all while I was away at work, with ZERO warning that anything bad was about to happen. Luckily, all I owned at the time was a Dreamcast, which was left alone along with the games. :D

I was unable to get her to properly communicate with me every again. So be very, very glad that it is civil.
