Pax Prime 2010 - Final Call

Figured I'd toss this up here because I've been looking through the threads trying to figure out who is going, but it's been difficult as a lot of people have had to cancel or change their plans. If you are still going, feel free to post and leave your hotel/lodging info and I'll try to keep the list updated. I've been a bit busy, but once I find out about those shirts, I'll also need to find out who's interested.

Anyways, I'm staying at the Sheraton. I'm getting in at around 4pm on Thursday, gonna find where the main theater is, then probably go drinking. Leaving Monday morning. See y'all there!

Ok guys, I'm finally ready to get some shirts printed. They would look like this:

Keep in mind we could change the color of the shirt if we wanted.

Looks like any size XL and under would cost $15.95 CAD to print, and anything XXL and over would be $20.95 CAD. There is a 5% discount on any order over 5 shirts. Just as an example, if all 10 of us ordered XL shirts, it would cost $151.52 CAD. Personally, I need an XXL, so I'd chip in the extra for my size.

I don't think I'd bother shipping them. PAX is like 10 days and stuff takes forever to cross the border, so I'd just bring them with me.

Money is tight for me with the trip and all. If anyone is super strapped for cash and would rather pay me in person at PAX, I could probably afford to print 5 or 6 of 'em on my own buck, but I'll probably need a few people to chip in. I have PayPal, so if you're comfortable with that, you could send me a PM and we could set it up.

I have some running around to do tomorrow, gonna pop into their office and see how long it would take to have a sample printed. If all goes well, I'll post some actual pictures of the shirt in the next few days.

Got you down for a shirt. Yeah, sorry I wasn't able to get to the shirts sooner. I've never had any printed, and I've been busy over the last little while trying to scrape together cash for the trip.

Gonna see if I can quickly exchange the icon for a PAX 2010 logo. Apparently if I pick up the shirts in store, they will take 3 days to print, so I'd like to get the order in by the 28th just to be safe. At this point we only have 4 people interested, but I don't give a toss, I'll print 4 if that's what we want to do. I'll keep you guys posted.

Nah, I don't think so, but thanks for the offer. She's not into the whole gaming forum thing. Just likes to play the odd strategy JRPG, simulation, or puzzle/board type game. Harvest Moon and The Sims are her faves. But if you want to make one anyway, her "name" is Lady Firecat. I wouldn't call her casual, she has a 16K gamer score, but she is definitely a "feminine" gamer. As in ZERO interest in militaristic first person shooters or horror games, and no desire to compete with guys or be part of those girl gaming groups.

Much of that "noise" is in the original badge. You'd have to hit it with an edge-preserving smooth. I tried, but the edges went to hell trying to resize it up (it's about 1/4 the size of the original gigantor image - again the perils of resizing a badge-sized image for a shirt)

Elektro - If you have luck coming up with a scanned logo, I can either put it in the original setup, or I can re-print a blank w/o the old PAX so at least you're not trying to erase/cover the old one up.

Cool. Take your time, I was gonna wait until the last minute to put the order in anyways, just so everyone who wants a shirt gets a chance. If I pay an extra $15 they can be done in 3 business days. I leave Thursday morning (Sept. 2) , so I would want to pick them up on Wednesday (Sept. 1). So as long as I get them in by Thursday or Friday of this week, we should be good.

Ok everyone, so I sent out PMs with (what I think) you need to PayPal me. I've never done it before :confused:

So like I said in the message, I'm hoping to place the order on Thursday the 26th. Because express printing take 3 business days, they would be ready on Tuesday the 31st. I leave on the 2nd, so this would allow for one extra day in the event printing takes longer than expected. I've updated the OP with everyone who wanted a shirt and the size they asked.

Right now, the total is about $150 CAD for all 8 shirts. 5 people thus far have offered to transfer me some money over PayPal. The shirts are $15.95 CAD, which would leave about $75 for me to cover. I can handle that, but if anyone else wants a shirt or can contribute through PayPal, the deadline is drawing near!

I've learned the shirts aren't actually printed here in my city, they're actually printed in Quebec and shipped, which is making me really nervous about the 3 day delivery they promise. Therefore, I'm going to go ahead and order the shirts today. I sincerely hope everyone who wanted a shirt was able to get one. I'm really strapped for cash right now and I apologize but I just can't afford to print any extras.

I mean, I could place another order for a single shirt, but it would be pricey. The shirt itself costs $15.95 CAD to print, but I paid an extra $15 for the "Rush Pick-Up" option on our order. It says they should be ready in 1-3 business days, but they're not printed locally, so it made me nervous waiting until the last second.

I mean, I will order the shirt and go pick it up for you, but it'll likely cost nearly $35 CAD :(

Read the fine print.... looks like the info sheet says there's an alternate "queue room" in Benaroya Hall's 3rd Street Lobby. It will PROBABLY have the same bags and lanyards for people.

I get in on Thursday at around 4pm. Other than just scouting the area and finding the Main Theater, I have no plans as of yet. Would be willing to meet up.

Friday I'll be getting there early to see the Keynote/Q&A, and there's quite a bit I want to do/see. I also intend on seeing the Friday night concerts, so I should be busy long into the night.

Saturday is busy too, but I doubt if I'll go to the concert. Sega has Gameworks rented out right across the street from the Sheraton. It starts at 8, but I don't know how long I'll stay so if we wanted to arrange something for Saturday night it could work.

Sunday doesn't have a lot of things I want to see, but plan on heading over to Bumbershoot to catch Weezer at like 9ish.

Personally, I think Thursday would be perfect. Also, if we meet any of the other days, the shirts will be occupying space in my bab that could be used to hold more swag. But I'm flexible. If anyone wants my cellphone number, just PM me.

I'm actually bringing my awesome Canaon Rebel XTi with me. It takes great pictures. I will also be traveling with a number of people who aren't members of the site, I'm sure they wouldn't mind snapping a few pics for us.

Normally shirts are worn on Saturday. Pictures are taken that morning because we'll all have the shirts.

I wouldn't be opposed to wearing it Friday, but I think Friday people generally like to get to the lines early to get a good place. They hand out wristbands for the concerts in the morning and it guarantees you'll get in.

I'm down to wear shirts on either day and take pictures in the evening, but with panels, events, and personal exploration, it might be hard to wrangle people.

Also, I need some of that google doc contact sheet action. I think I'm on it from last year, or is this a new one?

There's a really good Italian place close by that isn't as mobbed as Cheescake Factory or GameWorks, and is reasonably priced, called Il Fornaio. There were also two other decent places, but I'll be damned if I can remember their names.

So it looks like there are not a lot of us so getting the picture thing set up should be a breeze. For those of you with an i device, you can get the Conventionist app which lets you plan your convention going experience. Very cool. We can probably do the majority of the planning on Friday while we wait, sit, and compress in line.

I'm assuming Andy, the most prepared person on the planet, will have a camera. Is anyone else planning on bringing a soul stealing device? I have one but it is very old and shitty.

I'll have my camera, but someone else mentioned bringing a DSLR (which will take better pics than mine). I'm also planning on bringing a Flip Video to try to run some clips to upload for CoG. Anyone want to be my roving reporter? :D

I'm also still experimenting to see if I can channel enough bandwidth through my cell to run a live video stream. I'm not optimistic about it...

I'm assuming Andy, the most prepared person on the planet, will have a camera. Is anyone else planning on bringing a soul stealing device? I have one but it is very old and shitty.


I'll have my camera, but someone else mentioned bringing a DSLR (which will take better pics than mine). I'm also planning on bringing a Flip Video to try to run some clips to upload for CoG. Anyone want to be my roving reporter? :D

I'm also still experimenting to see if I can channel enough bandwidth through my cell to run a live video stream. I'm not optimistic about it...

I plan on bringing a very nice DSLR, and also my Canon GL2 camcorder for filming. Planning on covering as much stuff as I can, then posting it from the Hotel room at the end of each night. While I don't plan on spending the entire time behind the lens of a camera, documentation of the event shouldn't be a problem.

Actually my parents are driving down to pick me up, and they'll take my daughter off my hands for a few hours so I can enjoy PAX before we all head back up to Vancouver.

You can have breakfast at the Crepe place right outside the convention center main doors, it is excellent, but it is a hole in the wall, literally, with no place to sit.

Looking at the schedule... I might go to the Michael Pachter thing at 10:30, and probably the Hal Halpin/Sessler thing at 11:30. Yes, unusual, but I've been to keynotes and Q/As before.

After that, I will probably hit the Exhibit hall around 12:30. I will definitely be there by noon though, but I will not be there any earlier than 9:30 or 10. This is my 3rd PAX, and I'm just so sick of waiting in lines in poorly ventilated rooms, you must understand.

Ok guys, I would ideally like to meet to get Killer's shirt around 12:30PM on Friday, perhaps somewhere right outside the Exhibit Hall entrance.

My plan is to get there sometime between 10 and 10:30, check in, maybe get in to Pachter, and then head to the Halpin/Sessler event, followed by the Exhibit Hall.

Then I plan to get to the RAGE demo at 2PM if I can, probably followed by more Exhibit Hall. Yeah, I know most people will do Keynote followed by Q/A.
