I got this e-mail last night.

As an update to the PLAYSTATION(R)3 News email sent on Friday,
October 24th, the special invitation to PlayStation(R)Home's closed
beta is available only to Qore annual subscribers who purchased
subscriptions by 10/29. Qore Episode 06 purchasers will not be
eligible for the special PlayStation(R)Home beta invitation at
this time. We apologize for the miscommunication. So basically if you haven't purchased Qore yet and were planning on doing so for the Home beta don't bother. Way to attract new customers there Sony....or whoever runs Qore.

I doubt it'll attract more Qore users. Who the hell would pay the subscription fee just to get into the Home beta?

I'll bet someone here on CoG will do it.

Even if they do they will be SOL because you had to buy the annual subscription before 10/29.

So the beta costs more then the actual product... nice.

Sony said that people who buy Qore would have access to exclusive betas from day 1.

No skin off of my nose. I've got a buddy in the beta, and after 15 mins of running around and watching jerky dancing animations and 30-second video clips repeat over and over and over and over and over...my enthusiasm for Home has died.

Instead of what Phil Harrison promised back in GDC '07, it's now just a 3D marketing and microtransaction tool.

You have to hand it to Sony and other publishers who are making people pay to beta test their product. I honestly have to applaud the genius who thought of this idea. Instead of paying people to test, you make people pay to test it for you. That's a huge swing in savings from a business perspective (yes I realize they still hire testers but I bet they greatly reduce the number with this technique).

Um wrong. People aren't paying to test Home. It's a bonus going only to existing subscribers of Qore. Meaning if you were planning on subscribing to Qore the moment the Home beta hit your SOL.....if you hadn't subscribed to Qore by the time Sony sent the e-mail out informing you of this you are SOL.

Their only mistake was hinting otherwise a few days ago. The rest of it is people being upset because their amazingly clever plan of only purchasing one episode to gain entry to the Home beta was foiled.

Why do you think people even buy Qore? Is it for the videos they can easily get online or is for the beta keys and demos? People are paying to get early access to betas and demos.

After using the free Qore code in the back of this months OPM, I've found it's the ONLY reason to even consider it. I was not a big fan of the huge Burger King ads in between selections that actually stopped me from using it until they were gone. I was thinking... who in the world would pay for this?

It's only the demos and beta's. Anyone that says they are buying it for the magazine part is lying.

Hinting? Saying 'if you buy this episode of Qore you'll get in the beta' is one hell of a hint.
