The weekend thread presents:
When a Gnome finds his persona
Once upon a time not so long ago in a heat filled apartment there was a gnome. The gnome was a happy little gnome, drinking beer eating pizza nights and night of socializing. Through all the nights and days of beer and pizza there was this constant buzz about this...persona. What is this? A game? Bah, I have no time for such nonsense. I have only time for pizza beer and my socializing ways. Hours and hours and hours with a game? I dare not look. Despite the attempt to ignore, the calling of this cursed game kept whispering to him. Gnooooomeee...gnoooomeee...Bah, a bit of bad beer and bitter cheese. I have no such time for silly talk about a game and to actually play one? Bah.
Then one day, after a especially long night of pizza, beer and bowling a box appeared at the Gnome’s door. What is this he shouts? Breakfast pizza perhaps? The beer from Scandanavia from Better Beer monthly? Bah. Doesn’t look like it. A box from someone in N.J. . WTF can anything from there be good states the Gnome as his neighbors look on with perplexed visions as the Gnome has once again forgotten to wear his robe to answer the door. Taking the Box in, the Gnome almost decides to push the box aside in favor to forage for some culinary delights from the bottles and boxes from the living room. But there is that whispering again the Gnome says. Why won’t it shut up…gnooooomeee…gnoooomeee…well shut up I know my name! If you want me to open the *&^%$#@ box just say so. Ooooooopppppeeeennn theeee…which made the Gnome only more annoyed knowing his breakfast would have to wait.
So with much regret the Gnome opens the box to find…The Gnome project: One PS2, one copy of Persona 3 and a Gnome suddenly drinking more beer eating more pizza as he becomes sucked into the game world of Persona. Happy playing Mr. Gnome! :)
Now that the long planned and often delayed Project Gnome is complete, I once again game guilt free. With luck from the weather, a break in the heat might allow me back into the higher points of my house to allow near my consoles, otherwise like Mr. Gnome it will be an all P3P weekend. Weather permitting I’ll be playing:
P3P- My social link awareness the second time around is much better. The schedule of these social links is evil. I know there is a way to balance them all. Damn you Atlus!
Crackdown 2- My underground game I’ll be playing since admitting to playing it might cause large crowds, or Kelegacy to come to your home to take your copy stating they are taking the copy for my health. Hopefully my cats might be able to distract the angry mobs as I keep playing. :D
Persona 4- Just as I was getting into the plot of this very odd story, the heat returned sending me away from my PS3. Time to watch weather patterns again.
Mr. Gnome- Hoping the U.S. postal service deliver said box to Mr. Gnome on Saturday to look for reactions on his playing P3. That’s if Mr. Social Gnome isn’t out dazzling friends with his social skills.
The weekend returns. How will you frivolously spend your time? What will YOU play?

I gave up videogames and am heading into the seminary.
Actually, this weekend looks decent. In typical Kelegacy style, I'll describe all the mundane aspects of it because I like to see myself talk.
1. My father is coming out with his Kobota tractor and will play in my backyard and tear up the ground and try to make it "even" and clear out any junk. Last people who lived here cut down bunches of trees and left heaping ash piles and let it overgrow again. It's been too hard for me to tackle on my own. I want to be able to mow it someday, but too many small stumps and other debris is requiring me to weedwhack it all the time. Takes a long while too. So hopefully my dad can fix it up. Plus he likes playing in his tractor. Videogames are to me as causing destruction in his big toys are to my father.
2. Parties. Saturday my wife is going to a party at noon with the baby. This gives me alone time. Awesome, but at 4:30pm we have another party to go to for a friend who is getting married. Bonfire and cookout and beer, which should be fun.
3. Games. This is what I plan on playing this weekend:
PixelJunk Shooter - I think I'll finish this game this weekend. I'm on the third stage, the one with the oil, and I think it must be the final level. I'm guessing.
Alan Wake - I might fire this up tonight and see how I like it. I need a good linear game as I've played too many sandbox titles this summer.
If I play any other games, I'll keep it to A Crack in Time or Batman: AA. I really should focus on Batman but I say that every weekend.
Maybe I'll play a bit more Eternal Sonata and try to get past the pirate boss I died against on Tuesday. Good god the voice work is more annoying than I remember.

I've just kicked a whole bunch of various visiting friends and family out and had intended to settle down to complete Red Dead and Transformers. I've been pecking away at both of those for the last few weeks, but not made any real progress. Actually doubt I'll be playing them much anyway, since I've got a serious bug for Monday Night Combat

I need to get back to Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight soon. I think I'm at level 6.

I'm starting to sound like a broken record in these threads, but since I haven't had a ton of time to game it's still all about Assassin's Creed 2 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, with a side of the Valkyria Chronicles II demo another time or two as I nearly forgot how much I love that game. Hell, I may pop in the original Valkyria Chronicles to finish up the DLC I never finished. That sounds like a great idea.......
And I should be going to see Scott Pilgrim on Sunday, that should be fun.

P3P[/p] - I've been playing pretty heavily the past couple of days, I guess I'm finally over my DQIX obsession. I'm into December now and moving forward steadily. In addition to that, the only other plan I have is...
[b]Scott Pilgrim vs. The World - My wife and I are going to check it out in a few hours. We're going almost exclusively because it's being directed by Edgar Wright, and we love everything he's done so far. It helps that it's been getting some decent early reviews.
Aside from that, I may pop in for a little more of the recently purchased Punch Out!!, or one of the other games that is on the backlog pile. And maybe I'll swing by Best Buy and grab that inexpensive copy of Again.

Just so you know, I recently lent it to a friend of my wife's, and she complained a bit how it started slow. So be warned: it takes a little bit of time before the game gets going. But once you're over that initial hump, it gets pretty enjoyable.
And to Santa, is this old school P3, or is it FES?

I just sent you a PM. I think I got matched up with you on Goozex for How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Picking up some family and children's DVDs and I saw your name!
I lost my copy years ago and it's one of my favorite movies of all time.
I should be spending my points on games, but I got into a giving mood and thought of my boy. Plus, I have too many games. :(

It would be even more fitting if a young boy in striped PJs showed up at the stroke of midnight to get Maggie to sign for the delivery of the PS2...
I'm jealous of anyone who gets to go see Scott Pilgrim this weekend. I would love to go but I have NO idea when/how I'll manage to get out to see it. If we had a sitter, I'd seriously try to drag my wife to see it. She keeps digging her heels in because she thinks it's just a silly looking movie, but I keep trying to explain to her that that is the whole point!
Anyway, we just got new HDTVs and a PS3 and 360 at work (yay) so my overnight shift on Saturday is going to go by a LOT faster :)
When I'm not working or taking care of the kids, I'm hoping to spend some time on:
DQIX (DS) - I'm making next to no progress on the actual story but they keep having these themed sales for silly items and I can't stop grinding gold to buy out the store each day. Last week was the slime sale, now this week they've got scary stuff for sale. There's a helmet on there that will run me 15K gold and I have to get to work so I can afford it. The nice thing is that I can grind gold while watching TV with my wife and then she's happy because I'm not just sitting in front of the computer and I'm happy because I get new pretend hats.
P3P (PSP) - I want to play this. I really, really do. But it doesn't have slime hats! Maybe I'll break my DQIX addiction over the weekend and manage to get back to work on my social links.
Monday Night Combat (XBLA) - Yes, I'm addicted. I could spend my console playtime working on FFXIII but nooooo... I'm too busy healing things and building turrets and wishing I could get an invite from the CoG crew for a game :) This game is scratching just the right itch for me and I think I needed something as mindless and fun as MNC after the week from hell I just had.
Starcraft 2 (PC) - i also need to get back to this game. I think I was robbing a train or something the last time I checked.
Various iPhone games (iPhone) - I grabbed Chaos Rings yesterday and it looks neat. I've also got a bunch of match 3 and other time wasters to fiddle with. Good times...
At least all of the stressful stuff is over at work and I can relax (or at least not be sequestered away in the office for the whole day). It'll be nice to actually get out of the office and hang out with the guys in the house and just play games and have fun during a shift instead of trying to file paperwork all day. I might even bring in Zombie Dice and see if they like it.
Wackman3000
08-13-2010, 08:32 AM
I will continue on indulging it the fun of team oriented shooters, with both Monday Night Combat and Team Fortress 2.
I have really enjoyed applying my TF2 Spy skills into the Assassin role of MNC. While they are a bit different in terms of abilities and style, you still need to get crafty when it comes to sneaking up on the opposition.

Tonight is my groups first DnD game. I'm pretty excited. I think we have a good group and it should be a lot of fun.
As for the rest of the weekend? Who knows. I think I might try to get some reading done.
Oh! I almost forgot. I will be seeing Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World on Sat. I've been waiting for this movie for a really long time. I need to finish up book 6 before I go.

Still kicking ass in World of Tanks! I was playing a mission this morning before work with a SPG Artillery piece. Killed 4 out of 15 on the opposite side and won the mission for my team. It is soooo sweet to drop a HEAT shell on a Panzer from clear across the map! "Incoming!"
Played a little bit of Anno 1701 on the DS. A little too much hand holding in the initial scenarios, but still fun!
Mostly sitting in the sun, reading, sipping a cocktail and listening to Bryan Ferry. It's a tough life. :D

So I think I'm gonna go to that lameass wedding I was talking about in the Weekday thread. This is what God made flasks for, right? And I do want to be there for my friend. OK, I'm totally lying...she's got hot friends.
If I play some games, it'll probably be Valkyria Chronicles or Afro Samurai. Or that PS3 Katamari game I bought and played for twelve seconds.
I hope to receive DQIX from GF tomorrow. If I do that is what I plan to play most of the weekend. I'm also going to try out the HOMM MMO (wait, is that pronounced homo?) browser game and I am very tempted to try World of Tanks. Even if I do not steal Budda's idea for playing world of tanks, I'm definitely going to steal his idea for sitting in the sun, reading, sipping a cocktail and listening to Bryan Ferry Zac Brown Band. I have an all clear for drinking this weekend with no fear of my daughter and the little bottle monkey showing up unexpectedly. They just left to go out of town for the weekend with the ex and her family. To quote a song from Zac Brown Band, life is good today.

After a week of fruitless job searching, I'm gonna play:
Persona 3 Portable - It's 1/3. Decision made, I must now climb to the top of Tartartus. I have several social links maxed, which I'm proud of. While P3P has been fun, I'm looking forward to the end.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion: Game of the Year Edition Deluxe - This was on sale yesterday on Steam, so I jumped on it. As a break from Persona, I'm gonna give some mods a try and see how different it can be from the PS3 version.
The Expendables - Gonna see this tomorrow with a buddy. If you are a man, and don't see this move, then the Twi-tards have already won.;)
I may also play some ModNation Racers, Persona 4 (because I'm insane), and Sins of a Solar Empire, or continue my Dragon Age: Origins campaign.

I guess I'm not much of a man (but I knew that already). I went and watched Scott Pilgrim instead of The Expendables. I'm pretty glad with my choice. Scott Pilgrim was basically a love letter to video games and geekdom in general, and I hear The Expendables is really mostly about Stratham and Stallone, and the rest of The Expendables aren't in it as much as they should have been.

Fragile - I'm going to focus on this and see if I can finish it by the end of the weekend.
DQIX - I have two fyggs left and then whatever is after that. I might try to get to the post-story stuff finally since I want to explore grottoes and collect crazy gear.
LEGO Harry Potter - I'm still near the beginning of the game, so I might try to make some progress.
P3P - Is this the weekend that I finally play again?
Infamous - I'm still on the second island. Maybe I'll do a few side missions or find some collectibles at least.
Odds that I play much besides DQIX? Low. Hopefully I can at least play Fragile since I want to send something back to Gamefly, and LEGO Harry Potter would probably take a lot longer to finish. Plus Fragile deserves the attention that I haven't been able to give it yet.

First of all, I want to thank rein for sending me a PS2 memory card. :)
I've had a good Friday so far. I had an orthodontist appointment this morning during which I found out that my braces should be coming off in October. Hooray! Now I need to get everything set up for my next oral adventure with the periodontist.
After my appointment I went to a nearby coffee shop and read for an hour. I read over 50 pages of the book I started months ago, which officially took me past the halfway mark. If I continue reading 50 pages a day I'll be done by Monday! Hopefully I can make that happen.
I found a good stopping point in my book and went to a nearby pub for lunch. This place was apparently voted the 12th best place in the world to get a pint, so I figured I should have a beer with lunch. I got a pint of Flat Earth's Cygnus X-1 Rye Porter. Flat Earth is a local brewery, and their beer is fantastic. I ordered the tachos (tater tot nachos) for lunch, and they were delicious.
Now I'm home killing time before my "friend" and I go to see Eat Pray Love tonight. I'd like to check out Scott Pilgrim as well, but he wants to see the new Julia Roberts movie, and I'll admit that the trailer piqued my interest. Laugh away. :p
On the gaming front, I finished Plants vs Zombies yesterday. I played through the entire adventure mode in two or three sittings, and it was a lot of fun. I'm going to fire it up today and play some of the minigames, puzzles, and the zen garden.

We'd get along great of course, as I get along better with women anyway. My redneck or "butch" friends were grandfathered in from long years together from early childhood, but these days most of my friends seem to be women...at least other than CoG--but then again, geeks are closer to women than you'd think. Mad Math Professor is correct. The game does start slow. Well I didn't think so. But the first 30 minutes or so you don't do much. As in you don't do what you normally do in a JRPG. But I think you have the patience to find the enjoyment in the game.
It's the FES version. I'm to lazy to put FES at the end :o When I bought P4 without ever playing a Persona game (well pre-order due to the awesome CE) I remember you and Spiggles recommending to buy the FES version. I tried to play the Answer but i'm a wuss. That game kicked my butt appropriately.

I love love love love LOVE Monday Night Combat. I suck at it, but it's still stupid amounts of fun regardless of aptitude or ability. Played a few matches with the CoG crew tonight and had a blast with them. Even tried out the Assassin instead of sticking with my default Support role and she's pretty cool.
I picked up a 4GB memory stick at Wal-Mart today for $10 to use to supplement my 20GB HDD on the 360. I'm a little scared to actually try running games off of it (the 360 spat out some kind of warning about compatibility or some such after formatting the thumbdrive) but it might be nice in order to link things up between work and home, save-game wise. I wonder if I could take my Alan Wake save game into work on the thumbdrive and work on it overnight tomorrow.
I also think I'm losing my mind. I have my DSi sitting on the desk in front of me by the monitor. If I look up at the monitor as I type and whatnot, it looks like the green power LED is on in my peripheral vision. If I look down at the DSi, it's off. This has been going on for about 5 minutes now and I'm going mad...
Time to put these kids to bed and then get grinding gold in DQIX. I need 15K before I go to bed...
Oh, I was hoping to go catch Scott Pilgrim on Sunday night at the late show but the local theatre isn't carrying it for some reason! I guess they didn't want to cut into the lucrative box office of Cats & Dogs 2... sigh.
There's another theatre relatively close by and I'll see if I can make it there on Sunday, but it's about 40 minutes away instead of 20. Oh well.

This is actually my second time having braces. It's also the last! Insurance only covered 1/5 of the cost, leaving me with the other $4,000.
As for the tachos, they are nachos with tater tots instead of chips. Tater tots, cheese, lettuce, tomato, jalapeno, onions, black olives, and sour cream. There was also pico de gallo on the side, which I poured over the top. They were so yummy! Definitely good bar food. :D

You are a traitor to your gender. At least frederec saw Scott Pilgrim, showing that he's a geek first, man second.;)
Regardless of who gets the screen time, I'm hoping Expendables is the love letter to awesome action movies that others are describing it as.
Instead of playing P3P, I just finished the 2nd season of Durarara (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=10947). Like 95% of all anime I watch, it was good until the ending. It seems as if Japanese animation creators know how to start a good story and keep the middle going. However, when it comes to the ending...it's as if they an allergy to the phrase "plot resolution."

After peaking into the thread for The Expendables, I'm more curious to watch it. I don't go to the theater much, so having watched one movie this weekend I don't know if I'll go again. But given the chance, I think I'd go check it out.

Firstly, going to see Scott Pilgrim. Probably tonight.
Then, I'll continue to work my way through W40k: Dawn of War and it's three expansions. A thread around here asking about best RTS games made me want to play them again.
I've also got DarkStar One from Gamefly to check out, and I should probably spend some time with Monday Night Combat while it's the flavor of the week.
I got EndWar on Goozex. As console RTS games go, I think it gets overlooked. As one might guess, it doesn't have the depth of PC games, but the voice command system works quite well, and does a nice job of making the player really feel like a commander.
Batman: Arkham, mostly. I have three trophies left and one of them involves the Combat Challenge rooms. I get so close to 3 starring (batting? ) it but, in the end, fail. It's maddening. After that I still need to beat it on Hard which won't be too terrible so I'm *this close* to the dang Platinum trophy but it feels so very far away.
Also this w/e possibly some Madden 11 if I find the time and I'm getting back into Red Dead after some time away.

I will hopefully continue PixelJunk Shooter, as I beat the first "act" last weekend and should do the second one tomorrow and Sunday. I may also pop Borderlands back in and work on completing the 3rd DLC.
I may, may, try to start Demon's Souls as well, though I am not sure how much time I would have to give it proper focus as this would be my first time popping in the game because I am...
Going to Musikfest tomorrow in Bethlehem PA with a bunch of friends. Basically, we are going to walk around to the various beer tents, consuming as much as we can, and occassionally watching random bands play an eclectic range of music. Should be fun.

So I beat PixelJunk Shooter. Great game, ended abruptly though. A sequel is coming, I know. But I wanted a little resolution I guess.
I wish the game was tougher, with more complex puzzles. But it was still a fun game and worth my $5.
Now to play Alan Wake or something. My son crashed early so I should probably go to bed too since he'll be up before I know it...ugh. That kid is walking so damn much now, it's hard to keep him down. He visited me at the office yesterday and came running in to see me. It's crazy that this is the same kid we brought home from the hospital 13 months ago.
EDIT: Just played the first episode of Alan Wake, the intro. Now I'm headed to bed. Maybe I'll sin first. :)

I accidentally posted this in the weekday thread, but it looks like that thread is (rightfully) dead...
I got to Chapter 4 in Valkyria Chronicles. OK, you guys were right...the game's pretty rad. I like how the game makes me feel more in control of the action than, say, FFT by putting me on the 3D battlefield (I'm not sure I'm explaining that right, but whatever). And I love the skirmish system for tricking out my ride and my troops.

Now that I have seen Expendables I feel the calm of serenity upon me.
Nothing could be as calming and relaxing as watching such utter fun and destruction. I literally left the theater tired and smiling from such a good romp.
Now I am home, with typical insomnia. Listening to Grooveshark and downloading mods for games I barely play normally:)

DQIX - all fygged up, now back to the express to see what goes wrong and what I need to do next, although I'll probably start working my way through these weapon quests instead :)
Starcraft 2 - after complaining about the higher rrp and saying I wouldn't buy it for a few months when the price would go down, I crumbled for I am weak :)
Madden 11 - "The EA servers are not available at this time. Please try again later." failing to get online to look at the new stuff, so the Giants have been whipping lowly teams like the ram and bucs (I'm too scared for all pro at the moment)

I don't think there's any shame in not playing The Answer. I've only played a little bit of it myself. I've had an urge lately to try it again, but the aforementioned friend still has it.
Huh. I was under some mistaken thought you finished it. Ok, someone around here did finish it. I know I was warned about The Answer being tough but I wasn't expecting that tough. I was disappointed because I liked the plot.

As much as I consider myself I MegaTen nut, there are a few of the games, and parts of the games, that I haven't finished. Those irk me more than most of my unplayed games.
And what do I do to fix it? Keep working on P3P, making it the fifth time I've gone through Persona 3 in some form.

Starcraft II (guest pass) - Imagine my surprise upon getting one when the 7 hours was for single player as well. I'm about to start mission 3.
Demon's Souls - I beat the 2nd boss last night in only two attempts. Thankfully I've managed to not lose my souls after dying (ie: I haven't died getting to my bloodstain).
FFXIII - Haven't played since I got DS two weeks ago. No surprise there.

I've played that one twice. I'm pretty sure the second time through I stopped to see all the endings I'd missed, and I think I may have even maxed all the social links. I may be confusing that with my last playthrough of FES, though.
And playing through P3P is giving me the urge to play P4 again. I need to resist, though, and work on things I haven't finished yet.

That's why I asked. It seems I see many returning to P3 to replay but less so P4. If I can put down P3 for a few moments, i'd like to continue with some P4. At least the PS3 playing doesn't interfere with the tv watching of the spouse.
So what games do you feel you need to finish? MegaTen games I mean. Maybe if you list them we can guilt you into finishing one or two before the semester begins :D

Okay, here it goes. The MegaTen games I've got but haven't finished:
Persona 1 PSP - Fairly far along, just a little past the point where I could have gotten the bad ending that shortens the game greatly (and was the ending I got way back when I played in on the PSX)
Persona 2 Innocent Sin - I think I'm somewhere between halfway and two-thirds of the way through
Persona 2 Eternal Punishment - This one bothers me, since I like it so much. I've maxed out the game clock and am somewhere in the final dungeon.
Devil Summoner 2 - I got fairly near the end of the game when I lost my save due to a PS3 dieing.
Devil Survivor - Again, fairly close to the end of the game, but the battles seem to have gotten too hard for my group since I missed some key skills over the course of the game.
Then we've got the odder ones...
Demi Kids Light/Dark - I've got both of them, and I've beaten one of them (I think Dark), and played a chunk through the other but I don't think I've beaten it.
Revelations: The Demon Slayer - I haven't touched this one in years.
Shit, when I lay it out like this, I start to wonder if I've got more MegaTen games unfinished than finished. And I think the only non-PS2 one I've finished is Strange Journey.

Purps, I'd be tempted to go through P4 again except for the fact that I have seen all of the endings and would basically just be doing it to get a max social link run. I also spent 100-110 hours on that game, so I've paid my dues :)
The only reason I've played and replayed P3 so often is because I keep getting distracted after I've put in about 20 or so hours. P4 had me hooked for the entire run.
Well, my DSi just ran out of juice here at work while I was busy grinding gold (and trying to figure out where on god's green and verdant earth I'm supposed to go next) but I've got lots saved up for when I get home and can hook into the DQVC.

I suggest finishing P1, which I need to finish myself. If there is a map of the building, I believe it's the second to last one before the last one where the game comes to the climax, i'll be able to finish. Meanwhile, go finish P1 after your playthrough with P3. I'm not sure what you should start after that.

See, that's the interesting part that I find. People tend to like P4 better, not stating P3 is bad, but preferable experience yet they seem to replay P3 more (not counting P3P). There seems to be something about P3 that lures innocents back to playing.

P1 and P1 PSP - both games, I've made it to about the same point before getting bored.
P2: EP - I don't even remember where I am in this.
P2: IS - I think I'm about 10h in.
Nocturne - I keep on restarting this one.
DDS 1 & 2 - I've finished 1, but lost the save.
Strange Journey - 4th World
Devil Survivor - Day 6?
Devil Summoner 2 - Never started
I'm currently working on P3P.
So...I picked up Heavy Rain for $10+trades today (WKC and MH3), as well as M&M Clash of Heroes.

I don't know if I'd have played and replayed (restarted) P3 as much if I had actually finished it. I probably would have bought P3P regardless due to the new content and gameplay tweaks, but aside from the double dip (if you can call it that) of P3 and FES, my replays have been due to lack of focus :)
So the new TV at work is toast. Turns out that they sold us a floor model and said it was new, so I'm sending my property guy out to bash some heads tonight and hopefully have the thing replaced by the time I get in at 11pm.

I have a bad habit of really getting into something if I start collecting. It can cost more money than I'd like to admit. Thankfully I've been into MegaTen games long enough (I picked up the first Persona a little before Persona 2 was released on the PSX, I think) that I haven't had to go back and buy them when they're expensive. At this point I'm pretty sure I've got every domestically released MegaTen game other than Jack Bros., and since that's not an RPG it's not a priority.
And since Atlus has yet to announce the next MegaTen game, I'm spending my time hoping Gemini will release the Soul Hackers translation before too long.
I suggest finishing P1, which I need to finish myself. If there is a map of the building, I believe it's the second to last one before the last one where the game comes to the climax, i'll be able to finish. Meanwhile, go finish P1 after your playthrough with P3. I'm not sure what you should start after that.
That's not a bad idea. The thing that slows me down when playing P1/P2IS/P2EP on the PSP is that I feel this need to have a conversation guide with me while I play. But I think going back to P1 next is a good idea.
See, that's the interesting part that I find. People tend to like P4 better, not stating P3 is bad, but preferable experience yet they seem to replay P3 more (not counting P3P). There seems to be something about P3 that lures innocents back to playing.
I think I can honestly say that I've played Persona 3 more than Persona 4 largely because they've released these slightly different versions for it. I've played each version of P3 and P4 twice, and am planning on doing the same thing on P3P. I enjoy them both a lot, and there are things in Persona 3 that I really miss in Persona 4 (Monad), but I do like the story better in P4, even if it shares more in common with Scooby Doo than anything else.
At the moment i'm playing the "work at home" game. I am trying to catch up on narratives for my files. I know my supervisor is working the swing shift on Monday which means she will browse the files. As long as my work is in them, i'm golden. Now to make sure they are in there on time....
Working at home tends to go badly for me, too many distractions. Hope you get through okay.
Fred, you're better off than me:
For whatever reason I hit the PS2 MegaTen games pretty hard, and have finished pretty much all of them.

You've got a full game that doesn't require online at all. The online stuff is just bonus, for the most part.
However, you might like to know that I have similar problems getting DQIX to play nice with my router. I believe there are two ways I can solve this: 1. Turn off all security on the router, and connect the DS that way. 2. If you have a USB WiFi connector, bypass the router and plug your computer directly into your modem, the USB WiFi thing seems to have issues negotiating through both the router and the security for some reason.
Or every now and then go to a place with free WiFi. The thing you'll most likely miss not having WiFi is the bonus quests. But like Professor Layton, if you connect, it will access all the bonus quests that have become available up to that point. So if you connect now, you should be able to get something like five or six quests.

They often come with beef or shredded chicken.
If you ordered them at the movie theatre they usually are just tortilla chips and "cheese" sauce. If you order nachos at a restaurant they usually come with a variety of vegetables (lettuce, tomatoes, onion, possibly beans, etc.) and meat if you choose.

I'm hoping you deliver your nachos too.

Very carefully. Much like poop flung on a canvas, it's the kind of art that raises the question, what is art?

Not a bad night here at work. I just finished up Episode 4 of Alan Wake (woo) and I could see myself making my way through the last episode or two during the next week. I think I'll have to redownload The Signal though. When I fired up the game, it said the DLC was corrupted. Ah well. It was nice that I was able to just bring my HDD into work though. That was much simpler than I thought it would be.

I don't mind this whole insomnia thing when I have a lot going on because I put the extra hours to good use. However, it sucks all sorts of ass when I'm bored. I don't even have anything on the DVR to watch.

I occasionally go 36+ hours with no sleep but it usually catches up with me before I reach 48 hours. My problem is that I only sleep about 4 hours regardless. Last night I managed to fall asleep just after midnight instead of 2am like I normally do. Unfortunately that just means I wake up at 4am instead of sleeping through and getting 8 hours. My sleep pattern is typically 2am-6am with the occasional night of zero or 6 hours of sleep.

And I was too busy playing P3P anyway. I'm in January now. I killed the reaper, bought an armageddon just for that purpose. (Man, I miss having the old school fusion skills.) Have been playing in Monad. I'm ever so gradually getting over that initial hump where every battle in Monad could be my last. I'm getting crazy experience from some of the battles. I wonder how easy or hard it will be to get to level 99. I have recollections of needing to solo Monad to hit that relatively easily in the past. But since the amageddon/victory cry combo is no longer an option, I need my whole party.

Karak's condition is called psychosis :)
If you reach past 48 hours without sleep you will experience what Karak experiences. Which for normal men might not be healthy. But Karak is not a simple male...or human. It's rumored he really is from the next Persona game coming to lure us into that world :p

My stomach was a bit upset yesterday afternoon so I taped a few episodes of Flapjack while I lay on the couch. Last night after a party we went to, I came home and lay on the couch and watched them. I had written Flapjack off a year ago when I saw a piece of an episode, but now I'm hooked. I love how the shows looks in HD and the colors and art are a big reason why the show grabbed me. Of course it's maniacal and bizarre like Adventure Time (Pendelton Ward and Thurop Van-Orman are friends that share big beards, so it's no wonder) and I'm really happy there are two great shows like this on television.
I'm going to play more Alan Wake today. Don't know what else I'm doing. Maybe buying new shoes, as my work ones are falling apart all of a sudden.

I'm almost tempted to say NJ but even here you would see varieties of nachos as you explained. I thought he was kidding at first when Gen said about toppings on nachos.
You made my stomach hurt when you used nachos and movie theater together. I was expecting your usual commentary from something so disgusting. I realize it was surely implied but...ewwww to nachos from the movie theater.
I saw your name and the time on the last post, thinking you might of started playing P3, leaving with an impression or two. Instead we get nacho seminars. Ah, this thread is so unpredictable as usual.
I wouldn't eat nachos at the movie theatre. During the Julia Roberts movie I got a slushy and cheese curds. Surely a very healthy snack. :p
I was too tired last night to start up anything new. Even though I was tired I somehow managed to stay up late playing Plants vs Zombies. I've completed nearly all of the minigames now and all of the puzzles. I also watched half of a movie.

So I wanted to know what is this Flapjack. For someone who grew up with a tv as it's babysitter, I have fallen off the tv wagon so badly I have ADDGirl keep me up. She's usually up on everything no matter how geeky or odd. So with that previous info, I go to my usual reliable source and ask:
PS: So what is Flapjack?
ADD: It's a pancake.

ADD: What? It's not a pancake?
*Sigh*. Face palm pic someone. Please.

Very true. It seems P3FES and P4 are both going for $40 at amazon. FES is overpriced, since it was released at $30, maybe you can get it for cheaper if you poke around.
I'm also tempted to say "and Nocturne," but so many people have hated that game so much because of Matador, I wouldn't ever recommend it as a first MegaTen game. And while Digital Devil Saga is easier to play, having to buy two games to get the full story can be a little intimidating. But like Nocturne, at least they don't seem to be going for outrageous prices like they used to.

I'm on Alan Wake's 3rd Episode. So far the game's story isn't what I thought it'd be. Well, much of the game isn't what I thought it would be. I'm having a hard time understanding why this game took so long and underwent so many delays. I'm guessing the gameplay and structure changed many times. So far it feels like a straightforward action game, with a better than usual story.
And with the forest being the main type of level so far, levels aren't very memorable at all. But I'm not even halfway through yet, so things could change...
I'm certainly not scared while playing, or even a little on edge. I don't feel the atmosphere even when playing at night. I don't know, the sense of unease isn't there. Even the enemies don't provoke any fear from me. The reviews that said something about the game giving nightmares are absurd. We must have some really big pussies reviewing games on the internet.

This sounds a lot like my reaction to playing Dead Space. I suppose we can chalk it up ultimately to the fact that everyone reacts to horror differently. What one person finds nightmare-inducing another can find almost boring.
Dead Space continually reminded me of good horror movies it stole from, while playing like a decent action game. I never felt scared. You could chalk it up to the obscene number of horror movies I've watched over the years. But at the same time all four Fatal Frame games have creeped me out to some degree.

I have been talking about the movie for weeks now and tonight was pretty much my only free evening in the next 2-3 weeks that I could even think about hitting the theatres to see it, so she allowed me to go. I was originally thinking of going to the late show but given that I was up all night last night and wouldn't be back home until long after midnight so I got to go to the earlier show.
I was trying to see if my friends could join me, but alas, they were busy taking care of their horse (long story). It's probably for the best, because the box office was closed and there were only two self-serve ticket kiosks operating and it seemed as though the entire city was at the theatre tonight, so my friend would have lost her mind if she'd had to wait in line for 40 minutes to buy tickets like I did.
Thankfully I didn't miss the movie at all and absolutely adored it. It was close enough to the books that I didn't feel like they just slapped the name on something completely different but it was different enough to keep me on my toes. It's a total love letter to games and gamers and I can't recommend it enough, though I can also understand why it won't be for everyone. Also, don't see it if you are prone to photosensitive seizures. Yeep!

Chapter 4 does a good job of actually spelling out most of what is going on, plot-wise, and I like it as a cheesy suspense game but I agree with you on it not really being SCARY scary. I think Fragile creeped me out a lot more than Alan Wake did on a pure fright scale. I can understand why Bernie and Alan are scared but not why I, as the player, am scared. I guess I've just played too many Silent Hills. My standards for fright in a game are quite high :)
Speaking of which, I think I'm able to use the TV now and I'm going to go get to work on Chapter 5.

I just spent at least three hours playing Evil Genius. What a fun game! I should have played this years ago. I remember playing the demo back when the game came out in 2004 and enjoying it. I picked it up during a Steam sale sometime last year, and for some reason I really wanted to fire it up today, so I did. It reminds me a lot of Dungeon Keeper, only with a 60's spy movie theme. There is a ton of depth, and I'm having a blast building up my secret lair and sending my minions out on missions. I had to finally pull myself away to cook a late dinner, but I'm going to spend a lot more time with this game.

I like to blab periodically about these translation projects I hear about. I've bought Japanese copies of Persona 2: Innocent Sin, Front Mission 5, and Fatal Frame IV because they've had translation patches released. P2:IS and FM5 needed to be ripped and patched before being played, but Fatal Frame is interesting.
You load this application on a memory card which hangs out in the Wii. You put the Japanese disc and it translates and subtitles it on the fly. It impresses me that they're able to do this, even without your Wii being hacked. I'm paranoid to see whether or not it works on current Wii firmware. But if you're really interested in playing (and the Japanese disc was pretty expensive to get), I could maybe lend it to you.

I'd play tonight but my son fell asleep VERY early and we couldn't wake him up tonight--he was a bear and wouldn't even sit up--and we really didn't want him to fall asleep so early because that means in the morning he'll be up earlier than usual. And tomorrow morning it's my job to get up with him.
I think the reason Alan Wake doesn't creep me out is because the enemies aren't scary. They're like men encased in shadow. And rarely do they pose a threat. In Silent Hill or the RE games, I'd be nervous about opening the next door BECAUSE of the enemies.
The woodsy atmosphere should send chills down my spine, but it doesn't. I don't think it's used as well as it should. I don't know, it feels too fast to be a really good horror game, too. I like that it isn't going for the gore, but...I don't know. It's missing something. It's fun enough, but the lack of memorable levels and enemies that don't inspire fear sort of bums me out.

...wait, nachos can come with meat? O_o
Wait, nachos can come WITHOUT meat?!
Now I has a sad, I miss the Mexican place I used to go to all the time. The carnitas were FUCKING GREAT. There idea of mexican was something tasty instead of something burred under red sauce and cheese.
Become a movie star, let me join your entourage, and I'll bring my Persona and SMT collection with me. :D
I call dibs on the guy who sells secrets too the tabloids for you!
My roommate and I went and bought a ps2 on a whim, which is making my bank account cringe...but I'm making myself feel better by (obviously) spending more money.
Why didn't you follow the Mags route, which is of course, Puppy Dog Eyes!
Mags is going to go crazy whenever he shows up again. This thread has more Persona (and SMT) than what he usually complains about. :p
I'll do it.
Your all fucking cunts for playing a fucking cunt game!

Man in SH I'd rather be attacked. It's the scratching around the dark the before you can even see them that drive me nuts.
Guys, I was talking about The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack (http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/tv_shows/flapjack/index.html). Duh.
ADVENTURE!!!!

Yeah, EG is great. It's like NOLF and DK had a night of torrid romance and EG popped out.
If only we had posters with initials of NOLF and DK, this could be rife with so much more innuendo...
I thought about mentioning NOLF in my previous post, but I was afraid that no one would get the reference. NOLF and DK stand as two of my all-time favorite games, which is probably why I love Evil Genius so much. NOLF and DK are true classics that never got the acclaim they deserved, and Evil Genius is a great homage to both titles.

I knew Pale Ale was drunk as I read his post. I'm glad his little memo at the bottom proved me right. :D
Speaking of alcohol, I've bought a bottle a fancy bottle of beer back in 2009 that I've been saving for a "special occasion". That "special occasion" has arrived, and it basically comes down to "my ass is moving out of this apartment in less than a week, so as many perishables as possible need to be consumed". Thus I popped it open (it has a champagne cork) and am drinking it tonight. BEHOLD! Chimay Blue (Grande Réserve):

But if you're really interested in playing (and the Japanese disc was pretty expensive to get), I could maybe lend it to you. Thanks for the offer. I won't take you up on it any time soon, but if I ever finish the third (hell, START the third) I may be back :)
I think the reason Alan Wake doesn't creep me out is because the enemies aren't scary. They're like men encased in shadow. And rarely do they pose a threat. In Silent Hill or the RE games, I'd be nervous about opening the next door BECAUSE of the enemies. The enemies can be frightening in a 'Oh crap! They're going to kill me and I'll have to go back to my last save!' kind of way, but yeah. I find that the only really 'scary' enemies are the environmental ones that manifest when the Darkness really gets cranky. There are some neat bits near the end of Episode 5 that got the blood pumping, but more in an actiony kind of way as opposed to scary.
It really feels like an episode of X-Files more than anything. It's got dark, creepy undertones but nothing that really gets under your skin the way a good psychological horror film/show does. Of course, it IS touted as an Action Psychological Thriller, so I won't fault them for it. I'm surprised people were saying in reviews that they were actually scared though... But I know people who have claimed to be scared playing the RE games, which is a joke.
I've read that the narrative for Alan Wake is 8 kinds of messed up but once they start revealing the mechanics of what the larger metanarrative is all about later in the game, it makes its own kind of sense. It's not straight-forward to be sure, but it makes sense. I think the people who get too bogged down in it are the same people who spend too much time dissecting Inception and end up not enjoying anything :)
I thought about mentioning NOLF in my previous post, but I was afraid that no one would get the reference. I've got 3 words for you: Trailer Park Fight.
And 3 more for you: Roller Skate Chase.

Spig, I may not have been scared in most of the RE games, but there is a sense of dread. That's enough for me. RE1, however, did really fill me with a lot of suspense. Especially when the hunters showed up. And I remember playing it at night in the dark with that damn grandfather clock in the dining area ticking away and it really bothering me. I was in my mid teens when it came out but I still remember feeling uneasy. I think the first game still would do that to me today. The setting was key.
In the sequel, I didn't have any of the same feelings at all, though RE2 is touted as being one of the best RE games.
The Silent Hill games are still king for me, barring Homecoming, merely because of their atmosphere. Homecoming had a good story I thought, but the combat sucked. I think they're getting a little overplayed because the series has the same issues in every game (the town being evil and it's past and whatever). I hope more survival horror games start coming out because now that Resident Evil has become an action game series, and Homecoming wasn't that great, all we're left with is Dead Space. Which is good, but I think most of the monsters are stupid, at least the standard issue ones. The babies are still creepy as hell.

Survival horror has never been a very big genre. And after the success of action-ified Resident Evil, and the action-heavy Dead Space, I wonder if the more atmospheric ones like older Silent Hills and Fatal Frame will be harder to come by.
Which reminds me I need to play Fragile: Farewell Dreams Ruins of the Moon. Haven't people said that it's mostly atmosphere with very little combat? And the Silent Hill for the Wii.

The Suffering was an action-heavy horror game, but the atmosphere was creepy as hell! I'd fire that game up and my daughter would have to leave the room. You'd hear that "tick, tick, tick" and the occasional scrape of steel on concrete as those Slayers would sneak out of the dark!
Still playing the World of Tanks beta. I wish there was a bit more player leveling involved with the team assignments. I'll get on a team with a bunch of newbies that don't even appear to know the WASD config; and we'll be up against a team of grognards that scout with light tanks, kill from a distance with artillery and set up ambushes with team of tank destroyers. Still, every now and then it all comes together and I'm on the kickass team!
Downloaded the Play-For-Free Warhammer Online client last night and kicked that around this morning.
Loaded up NeverWinter Nights 2 over the weekend and might try to get into that. Got disconnected from a bunch of games when we moved out of the house for the remodel. (Still need to finish The Witcher!)
EDIT: Dang! I thought this was the WeekDay thread. Double-post to the rescue!
