Plants vs. Zombies Gets a Steam Update

Popcap has been incredibly busy taking their popular tower defense-style game and tweaking it for every conceivable gaming platform, from the iPhone and iPad, to the Wonderswan Color (that last one isn't actually true). Now, they have come back full circle and updated the Steam version of the game. They call it the "Game of the Year" update, and it's pretty cool. Included is an increase of the available Steam achievements from 12 to 21, Steam cloud support for game saves, and a brand new Zombatar tool you can use to create a PvsZ-themed zombie avatar. Unfortunately, this update also has the side effect of removing the "Michael Jackson" lookalike zombie (http://www.1up.com/news/popcap-removing-michael-jackson-zombie) from the game. Just as in Plants vs. Zombies itself, you win some, you lose some.

The update went live earlier today, automatically updating for connected Steam users.

Unfortunately, it appears as though PvsZ doesn't recognize any achievements you earned prior to this update. So in order to see them listed in the Achievements section, you have to earn them again.

Yeah. That's kind of annoying about the trophies. And the Chinese zombies are from the iPhone iteration of the game. Best easter egg ever :)

It recognizes mine just fine. And I'm able to earn the new ones just fine as well!

Damn that sucks. I've been meaning to get this game at some point. What platforms can you still get it with the original zombie?

Also, if you turn off auto-update after the change could you swap the file out for the old one in the steam folder?

The MJ zombie is gone for good now unless you have a copy of the game backed up somewhere and never update it.

My steam listing for the game had 9 trophies listed as achieved before I fired up the game but after I played a bit last night, I had 8... weird...
