So, I visit another forum to play DnD with several members of CoG. Right now it appears that their domain name is expired and I have no idea what's going to happen with it. It's an interesting thing because the way that I communicate with most of the people involved with the site is ont he forum itself, of course, and with it out of commision, I find myself scrambling for other forms of communication.
And I thought it would be an interesting thing to talk about here. If CoG were suddenly totally dead in the water, what contigency plans do you have in place to reconnect with the community and find out what's going on?
Me, I have a good chunk of people as friends at MSN. (Mostly the same group playing DnD with me.) I would probably head over to playitreviewit.com to see if people are using it as a haven as we have before. I suppose if worse came to worse I would see if there was any info back at evilavatar. Does CoG have a facebook thing? I suppose I'd check on that too.

Mainly the IRC channel. I remember that was how I kept up on things during the exodus.
IRC is where the real CoG is at.

I'm too old and slow to keep up with IRC conversations.
And I'm with Clanner, Steam's the only way I'd be able to keep in contact with people.

Oh yeah Steam that's a good one.
I don't even know what IRC means though, really.

Most of you bastards are all on Twitter. I'm sure someone would let me know if something happened.
It's actually made the new recommendation function sort of useless. All it gives me is Felicia Day, the Penny Arcade guys, and then every last person on CoG I haven't followed yet fills up the list.

Twitter, a light touch of facebook, and I occasionally play TF2 with the lot of you. I would probably hop to IRC in that case too.

Me, I'd gather up everyone in California, hitchhike to Minneapolis, then work my way down to Texas. From there it's East through Alabama and Florida, then North hugging the coast.

The domain name has been renewed and will be brought to normal shortly. (https://secure.registerapi.com/order/renew/auto.php?domain=dndonlinegames.com&campn=expired)
That said, Steam for me!

Indeed. Like book of Eli. But this time Book of COG. We will travel the world gathering the real names of those that used to post. And then find a prison and drop the book off.
At random times chopping peoples arms and legs off and shooting cats.

I feel the same towards Facebook--I don't think I'll touch it ever. But Twitter...well, it has it's uses. I actually find a lot of cool stuff out by Twitter alone. I don't tweet much myself, but I like to read others sometimes.

I have a facebook for old school chums but rarely post anymore. I actually like calling and talking to people and such. I am more of a face to face person than a random "hi" on facebook. And as for twitter. I don't give a shit about someones random daily stuff "Except for my random insomnia threads." Twitter is completely useless to me.

Twitter is a tool, nothing more. If you find the stream you have useless, stop following those people.
Sure, it takes some effort, but a well cultivated Twitter stream can be quite useful and entertaining, and rarely lame.

Exactly. I have some chaff, but a lot of the time I find out things on Twitter that I wouldn't find out for days if I didn't have it. It keeps me alert. Follow the right people and it is a very great tool.
And I follow Ebert, who does nothing but Twitter all day. I can't believe he has time to watch movies!

Normal life? Well, I suppose there's got to be a first time for everything, eh? :D
I only have contact info for a handful of you guys (no Twitter or Facebook for me, either), but I do tend to bookmark most of the links you guys toss up (for blogs and the like)...

Ha that is true. Maybe my use of twitter is different than other people's. I keep seeing people say they find info on it...but if I needed that info someone would have contacted me or called me. I could follow an actor or something...but I don't care when they last pooped or what music they are listening to.
It's hard for me to find a use for Twitter I guess. I can't follow my friends as I talk to them, I can't follow stars as I don't care about them. There is not much left that isn't covered somewhere else.

Just wanted to echo the Steam idea. I have most of you as buddies there and those who aren't can at least join the CoG group there.
As an aside, I didn't know anyone here was into dndonlinegames. I've try playing a number of games there, but they always seem to die. When it returns, I'd love to play with you guys.

IRC is my real CoG. The forums are just a time waster.
If CoG ever went offline, I would found an exploratory committee and begin to solicit donations. Within a few weeks, my coffers would be overflowing and I would announce my candidacy for leadership of the world. I will ride forth on a white horse, and a third of the earth and the oceans will be destroyed in a hail of fire. I figure the media exposure from this will cause someone to recognize my face and send me an email.

I'm not sure that I've ever posted to Facebook. I get on there now and then to see what other people are saying (I'm not sure why, I'm never interested enough to read much of it), and that's pretty much it. I really don't like it... it feels sort like someone mashed up the blogs of every person I know and threw it onto one RSS feed.
I tried using Twitter for a while, but I find the whole concept to be asinine. If you want to post short messages, you can do that on a normal blog... why make a massive site based around that? Really, I prefer Facebook over Twitter.

I liken Twitter to an RSS feed with conversation. I get all kinds of interesting tidbits and updates from my favorite things and people, like the Rifftrax crew, Ebert, Stephen Fry, Kieron Gillen over at RPS, as well as some of the people from CoG and IM, as well as direct news from sites like Ars Technica and Top Gear. It's usually a pretty steady stream of entertainment and interesting info, because I keep my feed limited to those people who provide such.

I keep in touch with various members on here in all sorts of ways. I'm friends with several COGers on Facebook, and I have many more of you on my Steam list. Some members of this site chat with me via IM, although not as much lately. A couple of you have e-mailed me. A few COGers even have my cell phone number and my home address.
In fact, the only ways in which I haven't communicated with anyone on COG is via Twitter and IRC.
Me, I'd gather up everyone in California, hitchhike to Minneapolis, then work my way down to Texas. From there it's East through Alabama and Florida, then North hugging the coast.

If CoG went offline , well, I don't think I'd do anything. Maybe get on IRC just to see what happened, but CoG is my last lifeline to the nerd world and I'm only here because it's (1) populated by older, educated people I respect and (2) I still like to keep up with video game news even if I don't participate in it anymore. If CoG went offline I'd probably just give up video games in general.
