It glows in the freezing night
the midwinter snow so white
in its celestial path in the sky
the great hubnester lies

An young gnome, a powerful curse, an ancient frozen evil. Can you help young Oki Kuma defeat the hubnester and save her family?

OK folks, so I've got this whole new game I just finished, and now I want to play it.

So I'm looking for interest in maybe running a game online this Saturday.

Character-wise, I would prefer Alliance for this one, everyone starts at level 3, to give a little more oomph to the characters.

Anyone free to play?

What sort of time?

That depends entirely on when people are available. I'll be free all day.

I'm free from any time in the morning until 5PM, PST. I'm free again around 11PM PST.

Had to pick the one Saturday I made plans! Maybe another day.

If it's daytime in the US, so it's evening over here, I can most likely play.

Sorry I took so long getting back to the thread guys, I've been busy all day with gun shopping and cleaning.

It sounds like the biggest lynchpin here is you Jonno, so lemme know when you'd want to play.

I've also got a roommate who can probably join in. I might be able to rope in some people from theRPGsite.

Even if we only get a few people going, we should still be able to give it a go. Honestly, smaller player number is probably best to start anyway, especially since I don't GM often so I get kinda nervous.

Also, I don't know how much time folks will have, so I'll try and limit things to a straightforward dungeon with a bit of travel maybe. We'll see.

Umm, I'm 5-8 hours ahead of US time zones. I guess as long as it's not a later start than 5PM Eastern US time, I'm good.

OK, cool. I can never keep my time zones straight, though I should know Britain by now at least.

So, to give me a little time to wake up and prepare, is everyone then capable of making 1PM PST (4PM EST, 9PM GMT)?

That'll give folks time to make up characters too.

I don't suppose that anyone could drum up a nice, editable version of the character sheet in the next couple of hours, could they?

How are you going to run this? What do I need to make sure I have downloaded, up to date and working?

I'm going to take the opportunity to call dibs on a draenei paladin. :D

EDIT: Which stat gen method are we going to use? I'd personally prefer method 2, because I like a balance between randomness and control.

I'll get the .ODT of the last two pages with the character sheet posted, that's editable. Gimme a sec to lock it down.

If everyone has IRC, we can play over on Magicstar (irc.magicstar.net), as they've got a nice die roller built in, and they do have a Java client on the Magicstar website I believe, for those who don't have one. I'll make the room in a moment, #okikuma.

Stat Method, use which ever you prefer. They're designed that no one method gives too clear an advantage over the other, though random technique tends to give slightly higher average.

Here's a character sheet: http://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B3hWDeEiNI5aODQ1ZWZhMTAtMzVmMi00NTViLWIzY jMtNGI4Yzg5NDEwYjUw&hl=en

EDIT: Also, the room is up, so anyone who wants to join can do so. Server is irc.magicstar.net, room is #okikuma

The party has passed the test triumphantly! while there was a slight casualty, the great Hubnester is imprisoned again, not to bother anyone for 100 years.

Thanks to jjohnson1, Superman's Dead, and BigJonno for a fun game, and the chance to thrash the system about a bit.

Things we learned:

Monsters as written are way too weak. Basically every stat on the tables there needs to go up, they go down like chumps as written now. I had to level up one encounter to lvl 5 just to pretend to challenge my level 3 players, and even the Boss was too shy on HP.

Magic weapons are waaaay over powered. Jonno had a weapon at lvl 3 that did 5d10 damage. That was part of the problem with the squishy monsters.

Res spells make no sense as written. I like them not being automatic, but they need a roll mechanic that makes more sense and plays to the healer's strength.

Pet AC needs a buff. That's an errata, leftover from when I'd not had a base value for Armor.

Critical Threshold almost seems unnecessary. The carryover mechanic, where excess roll over armor adds to damage, really seems to do the job fairly nicely already. Criticals need a major rethink I think. At the very least, as written, thresholds are way too high and mean crits almost never happen.

All this will need worked into the existing errata, and I think Alpha 2 will have to come sooner than expected.

The joys of game design! Nothing survives contact with actual play.

Especially not the Rogue.
