Apparently it's on "indefinite hold", despite some support.
The introduction of an R18+ rating for computer games has been delayed indefinitely after South Australian Attorney-General Michael Atkinson withdrew his support for a discussion paper and public consultation process.
Well, if he's behind the block, he must have some darn tootin' reasons, right?
Mr Atkinson has opposed the introduction of an R18+ rating for games for many years, telling parliament earlier this year that he knew it denied Australian adults choice but was necessary to help restrict children's access to "potentially harmful material".

Over the past year there's been almost half a dozen high-profile games which have under the knife just to be released in Australia. Sega have even gone on board saying they might not even bother releasing the ultra-violent Mad World here (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3170362).
Really, at this stage, anyone in Australia who doesn't import for cheaper games and avoid ridiculous restrictions gets what they deserve.
