ever since Mtv has changed from showing music videos to crappy reality shows the avaerage IQ is their viewers seem to drop also...

it was ok in the beginning with real world and road rules....then came the true life series...two-a-days...some shitty show about bratty girls turning 16...

then it gets dumber and dumber with dating shows like room raiders where you pick your bf/gf bas on their rooms. or have your ex's pick your new bf/gf...

now the other night i was a show called SEX with MOM and DAD ???

WTF mtv????

the title of show probably is not what the show is actually about, but WTF? why name a show after an act of incest?

BUT "NEXT" CAN FUCK RIGHT OFF.

It always cracks me up when co-workers, and by co-workers I mean 30-something professionals, talk about the drama coming out of Real World. C'mon, are you fucking kidding me? You people still watch that shit???

In closing, MTv blows.

I used to watch TRL in middle school or something...but then it started to suck harder than usual, and my musical tastes grew up....I watched VH1 a whole lot more than MTV.

I think MTV is on the right track to show they still care about music.

Eventually, they hope to have their entire backlog on here.

The only time I even see MTV anymore is when I flip past it, laugh for a few seconds, and then keep going. When they started dropping videos for their retarded programs, I knew they were dead to me.

I do think they should change the name of the channel now though. It hasn't been about music at all for about a decade or longer.

"SEX with Mom and Dad" is actually a show where teenagers are pretty much forced to talk about their sexual activity with their parents, in the supervision of some kind of professional therapist.

It's actually an interesting take on things, and from the commercials I've seen, it looks like they're trying to break down barriers for their viewers, and make it "okay" to talk about sex with your parents.

Noble, but the execution is probably way off, per MTV's track record.

Date My Mom/Next/Parental Control... those dating shows are all the same. Basically, low-cost filler to put between big budget shows so that they don't have to *gasp* play music videos to fill time.

i'm shocked but not really shocked at the messages that some of these shows broadcast to younger audiences, such as room raiders where you are to base your love and affection on someone all because of what their room looks like, or date my mom where you must date the mother to date the daughter?

it's absurd how low in the gutter these shows are...

such as room raiders where you are to base your love and affection on someone all because of what their room looks like.

This is a solid premise for picking your date. The others? Not so much.

But if they live like a slob, they are a slob. All the make-up in the world can't change the way their rooms look.

That said, never saw the show. Probably involves something counter-productive like telling them before hand.

It would be a perfect world if I could pick dates by breaking down their door and checking out where they live.

I think you'd really have to read into it to get anything out of it, I just dont think rooms present enough information to be worthwhile. I cringe for saying this, but I'd be interested to see how the show went to see if people genereally could judge what another person would be like based on the contents of their room.

Hell, mine doesnt have much interesting in it - my pc, my bed, my clothes, my dvds, games, and books, my dead bonsai tree, an empty box of stoli vodka, and other assorted junk. From that you can probably tell I'm a tree sadist who poisons them with vodka.

I stopped watching MTV as a teenager. Occasionally I'd sit through a Real World marathon back in the day if I was off work and had nothing better to do with my afternoon. Reality tv has spiraled out of control its inception with Real World.

I do have fond memories of watching The Monkees Show on MTV as a kid though. :D

You could reasonably assume the person drinks alcohol and that they can't take care of a defenseless tree (bastard). That's just from 1 paragraph!

Of course it's not an exact science, but you could easily tell more about a person from seeing where they live (Income, habits, responsibilities) as opposed to seeing them out in a bar. What can you tell from that? I suppose if she/he jumps you with sexual advances, you could assume she/he was running a high risk of STD's.

Luckily, the only show I've ever seen on MTV was Jackass and Punk'd and that was it. If I ever want "reality" drama, I'll go to VH1. Rock of Love for the win ;). Seriously though, VH1 actually has music videos and shows about music. MTV just plays 30 second samples and tells you the song on the bottom and the stupid teenage girls will flock to them. What a fucking joke us teenagers are these days...

The Ball is still on Saturday nights on the deuce....or is that reserved for ESPN? I think it starts 10pm on MTV2.

Remember when MTV2 was where they played their music videos?

I remember when that was the fucking ad campaign for MTV2, and it wasn't that long ago. Then they stopped playing music on it, pretty much while they were still running those ads.

Honestly the sadest day was when FuSe stopped playing music and became an MTV clone. They aren't completely there yet (they still occassionally have some music on), but they're damn close. Its funny since their entire success is from correcting what MTV screwed up, so they follow it up by copying MTV almost exactly. Its like a progression for music channels evidently. You play music, get big, then stop playing music and have reality shows and stupid crap. When FuSe2 goes live I'm going to launch my own station and never fucking sell out.

Edit: And the new Ball isn't the same, or at least it wasn't the few times I watched it.

So you haven't actually seen the show but you are bagging on it?

It happens to be one of the most intelligent shows on MTV, with Dr Drew from Loveline and Celebrity Rehab as the person that tries to teach parents and teenagers just how much trouble they can expect if they let their teenagers engage in early sexual activity.

It is a much needed show and hopefully it gets the message to the right people, brain dead teenagers that don't have parents that are willing to openly discuss the ramifications of sexual activity to their teenagers.

I'd just like to take a moment to agree with you fine people that MTV lost me when it canceled Headbanger's Ball, Amp, MTVX, and then Headbanger's Ball again. And y'know what? Fuck Fuse too, for canceling Uranium. That chick (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juliya_Chernetsky) was cute as hell.

/edit: And Re:MTV Dating shows? Even Singled Out was better than this stuff. At least it actually took the people doing the dating into effect. I mean, it was a gameshow version of match.com or something.

Yea, I'm sure they let all kinds of medical "quacks" become Assistant Clinical Professors of Psychiatry at USC, or become American board-certified internists and addiction medicine specialists, or practicing staff members at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, California.

The only braindead person would be someone that can't tell the difference between someone that actually practices psychiatry and medicine like Dr Drew and someone that isn't even licensed to practice psychiatry (Dr Phil).

Dr Drew has done more for getting getting the message of safe sex out to the masses than any other doctor in the history of media. If you can't wrap your tiny brain around sound medical advice, then yea, you can continue to think that anyone that claims to have medical knowledge on TV must be a "quack".

Dr Drew Pinsky's credentials: After receiving his undergraduate degree from Amherst College and his M.D. from the University of Southern California, School of Medicine, Dr. Drew continued with USC for his residency. He then became chief resident at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena. Dr. Drew's professional activities in the medial field are numerous. He is currently the Medical Director for the Department of Chemical Dependency Services at Las Encinas Hospital, a world-renowned psychiatric facility in Pasadena known for treating celebrity patients. He is a staff member at Huntington Memorial Hospital, continues to run a private medicine practice and is Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Keck USC School of Medicine. His membership and activities in professional societies include the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the American Society of Addiction Medicine, the California Medical Association and the American Society of Internal Medicine.

I was just going to say the same damn thing, but then you beat me to it.

Dr. Drew is FAR from a "quack". I was seriously a little appalled to even hear the word thrown his way. Then again, Radioguy *is* one of those right-wing Christians that think that talking about sex is wrong (or at least, I've caught that impression from his forum posts across multiple websites), so maybe that's why he thinks the term "quack" is appropriate? Who knows?
