Downloading now. Not my kind of game I believe, but I'll give it a chance. Good week for demos, first Tomb Raider and now this. Like I'm not busy enough with games as it is...

Going to try it out tonight, alongside TR and my new Fallout 3, and get on with Fable 2. I wish I didn't have to sleep. :P

I'm very glad there's some colorful cool stuff coming out again, this LBP, Fable 2, I missed stuff like that last year.

For Gold users only. That sucks.

For the first week, as always. But since most of the gold users on here are probably 'too hardcore' to play this, I'm guessing there won't be too many impressions this week, so hurry Norse and Menage!

I'm not sure if it's much more than the vehicle creator, though.

This demo is all kinds of awesome.

You start in the game's hub world, and run through a few quick tutorials. After that, you're free to do as you wish.

You have access to the first world, and if you just use the preset vehicles, you can preform adequately enough to pass the four challenges in the demo pretty quickly, but you'll be missing out on all the fun. This game is all about the vehicle construction, and if you don't find the process of building vehicles fun, you probably won't enjoy it very much.

The vehicle creation is pretty robust. You've got only a handful of parts when you start the demo, but it's still possible to spend HOURS creating new stuff. Plus, if you explore the overworld, you'll find a ton of additional parts to use.

I've built a sea plane with flotation devices on the undersides of the wings to help with takeoffs, a helicopter, a massive car used to corral soccer balls six at a time, a race car with a spoiler and a robotic companion in the passenger seat that repairs the vehicle as I drive, and a replica of Kuribo's Shoe from Super Mario Bros 3 complete with springs on the underside to make it jump and Banjo's head poking out of the top of the boot.

There's also multiplayer in the demo, the only mode available is a King of the Hill mode. The hill is constantly moving, so you need to drive along to keep up with it, and at the same time fight off other people who are trying to drive into it. The pre-built MP car has some weapons on it that I haven't found in the demo, so it might be the best choice if you're trying to win, but I had more fun bouncing around in my shoe and harassing other people. The car I built to corral soccer balls is big enough to trap other player's cars. I ensnared the 1st place guy and kept him pined to a wall for a good two minutes before he escaped. I can only imagine the chaos that'll take place when people have access to the full arsenal of parts.

The best part is that the demo actually saves your progress, so you can power down the system, come back later and you don't have to recollect all the junk in the overworld if you want to work on a new multiplayer vehicle. As I'm typing this, I'm thinking about rebuilding the helicopter I had before with the homing missiles I found aimed straight down. I might be able to hover over the hill and blast anyone beneath me.

I love platformers (and, consequently, the Banjo games), but I hate the vehicle creation in this game.

Whatever shall I do?

I like the demo quite a bit. For those unawares, you can currently preorder this from Amazon for $36 and that includes a free download of the original Banjo Kazooie off Xbox Live (which will be $15 by itself).

Go buy the original Banjo on XBLA.

Seriously, a loading screen tells you "Still playing but dont find yourself liking the vehicles? Go check out Banjo Kazooie on XBLA"

I quite like this demo since I wasnt sure about the new gameplay mechanic. Now i'll be buying this game since it's still as fun as the first two and has lots of throwbacks for fans.

Way to make up your mind before trying it...

There's tons of platforming in the game - most of the parts you'll find are picked up through climbing and jumping from precarious spot to even more precarious spot.

I had it preordered already, but after playing the demo I canceled my preorder. It just didn't catch me. I didn't even finish the demo.

I'll have to go back and try it again. I should also mention that I never played the original games.

Wow - throw a crate or something into your starter buggy's storage area, then jump on top of it. Use the grab function again and it'll target the buggy...and you'll start to levitate. You can get to all the places you're not supposed to get to - in terms of verticality at least, you still can't escape the red barrier.

Need to add to the list of demos i'll be playing tonite...instead of playing the full games I have sitting...but I can't resist Banjo, TR and Mirror's edge...first to many games, now to many demos keeping me from playing the to many games...

I don't know about the new one, but BK is pretty much a carbon copy of Mario 64, which you've said you like.

...except that you get new abilities over time, not just new powerups.

If you can find friends to send you their blueprints it looks like you can completely skip the vehicle creation part. I'd certainly be willing to share mine.

Is the Banjo remake a total graphic makeover like Bionic Commando?

No, it's just a port. But it's a port of a really big game. $10 is a steal, and since it's free with the preorder of this $40 game....

Loved the demo, and it's gorgeous. I love the textures in the game, as well as the vibrancy of the world. I created a completely broken vehicle with a propeller on one side just to test out the building system, making it unbalanced, but it was hilarious watching the thing fly erratically through the air in large circles before flipping over and crashing to the earth each time.

I then preordered.

Loved it.

Got caught up in the same charm than made me spend hours on Viva Pinata. It's pretty huge for a demo as well. I think I probably could have puttered about all night just in the hub world.

I just fooled around with the demo...and I could of played more but I would of lost my day...OMG...this game is brilliant! I had it pre-ordered already just cause I loved BK before...and I love platformers so show any love to them. The vehicle creation is going to be a lot more fun than I thought it was going to be. I like what you did with yours Kelegacy...i'm going to have to try some weird stuff like that. I didn't play it long enough to fool around to much...but I was impressed...granted i'm a platformer ho but...if you loved the original BK you won't be disappointed. This game I hope sells...I think lots of gamers, including the "casual" crowd will really dig this game. It's games like ths one where i'll get immersed in it so much...i'll forget all about them...i'm never going to get out of this backlog of games. I'm drooling over a demo while I have...5 FULL games I should be playing...

But just think...by the time BK roll around you will have finished GOW II and you can sacrifice some online playing for BK :D. You can do both...really

Banjo is almost half the price of Gears too. It retails for $39 and you can get it on Amazon for $36 w/ no tax and free shipping. I feel like a shill for repeating that deal several times, but I think it is rare that you can buy a game day of release and get a deal that good: $36 for a high quality day of release game along with a free updated classic that sells for $15 separately is likely the best deal you'll ever seen for a new title.

I thought the demo was awesome, but is there anyway to get a better turning circle going?

Either way I found the game to be awesome, with good level design. Oddly enough the vehicle creation reminded me a bit of Spore... only where it fucking matters.

When I played multiplayer last night it was a sea battle, so while they don't let you pick there is more than one mode. I wonder how it decides which mode to do, though. Randomly or switching over time both seem possible.

The sea battle was fun. I first did it in local multiplayer by myself, so I got used to the default boat. It had three sets of weapons - 3 guns on the right, a short-range boot, IIRC, on the front, and some sort of freeze mine on back. The guns on the right seemed to be the most powerful, and I don't think the other people playing even knew about the others. Everybody having their most powerful weapons firing to their right made things interesting as you tried to set up your shots while avoiding giving them a good shot.

Meh, I didn't like it. There was a huge focus on vehicles and not enough platforming. That and the vehicle handled like shit. I'll just get the XBLA Banjo.

So it does seem to randomly choose between the two different multiplayer modes each time.

So if you want to experiment with vehicles or create a blueprint for multiplayer without redoing the single player portion you can go to multiplayer, hit back to go to the test track, and then hold down up on the D-pad to go to the garage, with all the demo parts unlocked. I've found it convenient.

Anyone want to try and play some multiplayer together this weekend?

I thought the demo was awesome, but is there anyway to get a better turning circle going?
At least for two-wheeled vehicles, is seems to be that the closer together the wheels are the better the turning radius is.

It's going to be a great game. Shill away. And it is a great deal. I have mine pre-ordered already. I think Rare added enough to the gameplay that it should have fans of the series to come back and look. And for newbies...a great place to start...

Have you considered selling your own blood, give away your other bodily fluids that some clinics could use  Lots of ways to get enough cash for BK. I would suggest selling your sexual services but that's illegal :).

If it works for you, I'm thinking tomorrow at 3pm pacific. I could do sooner, but I'm leaving extra time in the hopes that more people will notice and want to play. I went ahead and started a thread in Matchmaking about it here (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?p=52583) - figured it wouldn't hurt and might help.

I'm really looking forward to the multiplayer in the full game. Designing vehicles for the different matches could be very fun, and getting a group together to design a set of vehicles for team matches is something I want to try.

I soent another afternoon just playing this demo. I made a huge unicycle and a tripod with spring feet. Neither got me more than 2 feet without falling over, but it was worth it.

ANyone else noticed that there are tiny information signs beside some of the features in bajo-Land, and they'll tell you which game it's from? I've never played any of the previous games before, but I still appretiated the thought.

I hadn't noticed that yet but it's still a cool concept. My memory is awful so being reminded is fine for me. And if you want to play the first one, just pre-order. Is it worth it? Hell, if you are playing this version you need to play through the first one. Classic platforming.

Edit: @Ondo- I found your other thread. I answered there. I'll be on...memory permitting. I told Ms. Claus to remind me i'm to be on the 360 at 6pm (est). I tried to get her to tag along but she didn't seem to interested in BK :(

Yeah, I'd never really had much of an interest in the Banjo Kazooie series, but after a few hours with this demo I have decided that I'm missing out. I'll have to see if we have the same pre-order offer here.

Also, in Banjo Land, check in the giant dustbin for a bit of a giggle.
