New blink album, I like it it's good but it's way to often "ava ft blink" rather than the "blink ft ava" where it's at it's best... About half the songs I could take or leave but there are some real gems on it

Started listening to the XX more after I found that XX/Biggie mashup. It's minimalist R&B made by musicians dressed like mallgoths, and it's fantastic.

Off their new album. Sounds like old school Megadeth to me. Yet another awesome Megadeth album on the way, I think.

Oh nice I didn't even realize this.

The intro is a bit spastic...but what an Awesome chorus.

fuck, you've got me listening to all my favorite Megadeth tunes...lol

A new wave of Thrash seems to have popped up out of nowhere over the last few years. It's an amazing time to be a metal head. Gama Bomb's from Ireland, but you'd swear they fell out of a time machine from Hollywood in the 80's. Video's worth watching just for the old school animated war cartoon. Very 50's propaganda.

I gotta disagree with you there. The vocal style really sets them apart from the rest of the current Thrash crop that I've been listening to. It's rarely distorted and completely avoids the growling tone most other bands in the genre have adopted, which reminds me more of bands like Iron Maiden or Exodus. It's fast, furious and funny if you listen to the lyrics.

Obviously, it's a preference thing, but I can't get enough of the vocals.

I'm not an R.E.M fan, but I can't deny they were influential.

R.E.M. has unveiled a special GIF cover for their forthcoming greatest hits package, R.E.M., Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage, 1982 – 2011, due out November 15th. It’s being billed as the “first-ever ” GIF album cover with the intent to “usher in a new era of album artwork.”

FIFA games usually have pretty strong soundtracks, and this year is no exception. The first cover Crystal Castles did for this song was good, but adding Robert Smith's voice was just genius. If you had told me this was a new Cure single, I would've said this is the best Cure record since Disintegration.

It's not technically legal, but it's floating around on the Tubes somewhere. There are a couple of singles on Youtube, though, along with a handful of remixes.

If you're hoping for a second Cross album, you'll be sorely disappointed. The best way to describe this album is Electrorock, informed by 70s arena rock. I'm hearing all kinds of influences here; The Who, Led Zep, AC/DC, even a little bit of Queen.

edit: Speaking of being informed by 70s rock, this remix off the 1st single pretty much says it all:

MEGA MUSIC ORDER!

So randomly I bought a bunch of CDs last week. In no particular order:

The Black Keys - Attack & Release
Bjork - Biophilia
Florence + the Machine - Ceremonials
Mumford & Sons - Sigh No More
Wale - Ambition

Sadly the only two I've been able to even give partial attention to are Black Keys and Florence. Hopefully the next couple of days are mellow enough for me to relax and enjoy some music.

Metallica might be getting worse and worse every year, but at least Megadeth are still awesome. You know, I never gave Megadeth a fair shake because they (he) always lived in the shadow of Metallica. If Metallica was a 10 on the speed metal scale, then Megadeth was 8 to me.

Now that Metallica... well, let's not talk about it... Megadeth remains an 8 for me and that is actually now the strongest speed metal score :)

This feels like 1988 and I approve.

SilentScreams

I think Megadeth have always been better than Metallica from a technical standpoint. It took me a while to get into them though. I was a Metallica fan first, and I still love them (St. Anger and Lulu aside) but Megadeth really won me over with consistently great albums while Metallica could never repeat the success of their first 4, even though I do like a lot of the stuff that came after Justice.

Bone

Megadeth may have been better technically, I just never liked them that much. But for me Metallica ended at And Justice For All- while there are a couple of good songs since then, like you said, they never made a strong album again IMO.

Before I show this let me say: I DESPISE country music. I absolutely can't stand it. But this song.... there's something about it that I can't get enough of. Maybe it's the magnificent four-part harmonies, maybe it's the piano, maybe it's the buildup to the last chorus. Hell, maybe it's all of it. In any event, I think it's one of the most emotionally moving songs in recent years.

Dark horse candidate for album of the year. It blew me away when I really wasn't expecting it to.

I guess I should say that this isn't a metal album or anything like that. It's indie/alt-rock stuff with progressive leanings.

Dubstep has it's place. It just can't be played like people play it. It's pretty fantastic.

I'm sure a lot of NIN fans would hate this, but listen to Year Zero. There's a lot of similarities in the noise breaks he uses. And that's how Dubstep should be utilized...as breaks. Because in smaller doses, it really can sound amazing and different.

It's just a glorified and very grimy version of Drum 'N Bass with a couple of huge bass drops, 'wobble' distortions and a faster BPM. It's a very lame sub-genre and I'm surprised it's still quite popular. With that said there are some pretty good Dubstep bands out there though. I like Pharos, Noisia and Flux Pavillion.

I'd call it dubstep, but it's really not. While it has a slow bassline of a dubstep track, it definitely feels more like a progressive house or trance song. Whatever it is, it's bliss.

This is really good! I don't really care what new fad people have named something whether its dubstep or brostep, its just something to make people feel unique. Look a new genre?!?. As long as it is good, shove it into techno as a category and play it loud!

This is very good thanks and in my very large techno collection now!

If you like that one, check out Mord Fustang. He's another one that I've been loving lately:
gVxPmuQqjBY

It's definitely a dubstep track, but again you've got a very trance sounding singer in the background, and the slower, melodic breaks. I also love the synth in this track.

And if you want to flip the switch, here's a true Electro House track from him:
E1QBXKt40h8
The thing that gets me with this song is that it gets SOOO much better at the end. He adds just a bit more of a bass line to it (when he comes back from the 2nd drop at 3:26) and from there it just clicks for me. I'm almost tempted to try a remix myself and just stretch the end of the song out, because I think it's that damn good.

I've been getting back into the techno a lot more lately. It's been a long time since I've been on the turntables and spun some tunes. I'm Going to have to make an effort to do that more in 2012...

I really should be making my own rather than listening but...I will just consider this "homework!" Thanks alot.

Strangely enough I actually like some of her pop stuff. Most likely because I am indeed impressed by voices and what people can do. Not too much of a fan of that song just now. But your right. She is actually damn talented.

I absolutely hate dubstep. It's the worst thing to happen to music since Auto-Tune was still in vogue.

But at the same time, I love some of the "post-dubstep" stuff out there, namely The XX and Burial. It's like they tamed that in-your-face retardedness of dubstep and turned it into something listenable.

Deadmau5 isn't to overly offensive either. I LOVE this song and I am not a huge Dubstep fan myself. If it's toned back a bit it's not that bad.

I love Deadmau5 too, but this song was all right until it went full retard with the dubstep part. You do have a good point though; if these songs were toned back quite a bit it wouldn't be too bad. I think what I'm raging at more are the dubstep songs with the aggressive, heavily distorted bass that sounds like an old shitty FM transmitter I used to have when I drove near a power substation. I think that's what people are calling brostep?

In a way, if you tone it all the way back, wouldn't it just be 2-step?

Just bought Brendon Small's new album, Galaktikon (http://www.amazon.com/Brendon-Smalls-Galaktikon/dp/B007Y6ABP2/ref=sr_shvl_album_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335760348&sr=301-1). Still downloading it now, but I have no doubt that it will be awesome after his work on the Dethklok albums.

It is, in fact, fucking awesome. It's reminiscent of the epic storytelling rock of the Protomen. Brendon continues to wield a mighty axe.

Yeah, I listened to it a few times last night, it is fucking awesome! I think my favorite track is Prophecy of the Lazer Witch.

This song has been in the top of the charts here for months. I agree it's very good (and I'm still not totally burned out on it, like 99% of the rest played on radio extensively). It reminded me a lot more of Sting though.

The actual video is quite good as well.

When I first heard it, I thought; 'Wait, is that Sting? But this doesn't suck!'

I have GTA: The Lost and the Damned to thank for having this song embedded in my skull for the past few days.

What a tasty bass line.

Well I have little experience outside of Sting's big hits, so I really can't say much to that. But I was speaking more to the CD as a whole.

Currently listening to: The Civil Wars - Barton Hollow
Really really love the title track, makes me wanna go watch an episode of Justified.

That's hilarious because I was just playing GTA IV:TLaD myself and I heard a song that's been stuck in my head for a couple of days now too.

I feel dirty now knowing it's from a Kelly Rowland but it was funny to listen to Vladivostok with a bevy of other greasers riding with me in a convoy and I got sick of Liberty Rock and L.C.H.C. I was doing the Motorcycle races and that song came on and I was hooked.

Scored at the vinyl store yesterday: Miles Davis' Birth of the cool and Operation Ivy's Energy.

I always enjoy finding a new band to listen to that don't subscribe to the "Metal = incomprehensible growling" theory.
Kickass music, and good clean vocals.

Driving down the Highway at 170km/h high on ex. Fuck I miss the late 90's. Now electronica sucks. Skrillex a perfect example of that.

Never listened to Alter Bridge. Does Myles Kennedy always sound so much like Axl Rose or is he actually trying to because he's with Slash?

Dig the song anyway.

I totally just dug this out from my old CD graveyard and love how Rammstein still is so fun to listen too, years later.

This song is awesome. But at 1:52 it becomes pure epic facemelting godliness. Rammstein eats your soul from 1:52 to 3:46.

Starting at 3:30 is everything that being best friends and rock and roll is all about. By this point in the show it was no longer about the audience, and was only about them.

I really want to like this, but I find the lyrics so incongruous with the music I can't get into it.
First track is good though!

I love this album. Slash with Myles Kennedy sounds more like Guns N' Roses than the actual GnR do.
