View Full Version : How hard is to take a goddam order for Tea?

I work close by a Tim Hortons - which is both good and bad: it means I can grabba-a-cuppa in the morning on my way in. Recently I've changed my route so I pass it everyday, so inevitably I am drawn in.

However, there is this one person there for over 2 fucking years who can't understand:

Extra-large tea, with two milk and two sugar. Please.

Is this really hard to understand? Today, she wanted to confirm that I had wanted green tea...

GREEN TEA with two milk and sugar? WTF!?

So I leave and get to work and sit down. That stupid goddam cow put cream in my tea. After almost giving me green tea - with cream and sugar.

For crist sakes, it's tea!

I haven't been in this place for nearly 6 months because this dipstick has some mental retardation when it comes to tea orders. It looks like I will continue to avoid the place.

And no, no one else has ever managed to screw-up a tea order - other than slipping me some of that dastardly pre-steeped tea.

(yes I am drinking it)

Green tea with cream and sugar? I think that's the tea they serve in hell.

Your story reminds me of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

If it's that big a deal, make your own tea.

Or do you have difficulty boiling water?

Ask for tea where I live and you're gonna end up with iced sweet tea.

Or do you have difficulty boiling water?
Once I came home from school, to find an empty pot sitting on a lit burner on the stove. I went upstairs, found my housemate, and said something like "Dude, you cooking a pot?"

"Oh! I was boiling water for ramen!"

...

"How long ago was that?!?!?" :D

I am pretty sure my kettle does it in less than a minute. What person is unable to find say 1.5 minutes to make a cup of tea. I buy tea not because of the time but just because I'm lazy. I mean if you need to earn those minutes just brush your teeth and pee in the shower at the same time, problem solved.

Bad Buddha

Sadly, no.

If you've got the time to drive into a restaurant and order a cup of tea, you could have used that time to put on the pot while getting dressed in the morning. 2-3 minutes max! It's not as if you have to sit there doing nothing while the kettle boils.

That way you get to choose the blend of tea that you want and it's prepared the way you like it.

Those time-management skillz need some fine-tuning!

Or do you have difficulty boiling water?

On my way to work, I have incredible difficulty boiling water. I cannot generate enough friction; luckily some shops are designed for the sole purpose of selling food and beverages: and usually have staff with functional hearing.

(The tea is now lukewarm)

It's not a big deal: I mean jeez I already had my cup of tea at home, this is my morning-after-the-first-on-my-way-to-work cup of tea, tea. It is usually followed by the after-work-just-got-home tea, followed by evening-tea and sometimes by I-have-enough-time-before-bed-to-have-another-tea, tea.

I find the frequent inability to not get it right truly amazing. Seriously, how could she keep her job? My voice and her ear must generate a brain inhibiting effect of some kind - or maybe auditory and visual hallucinations - she THINKS I ordered green tea with cream and sugar - or maybe it even looks like tea with milk and sugar. At least there are no knives by the counter, otherwise when I order tea, she may try stabbing me in the neck - and ask for $ 1.65

Personally, I enjoy the quick brewing electric teapots. Just set it on it's connector base, and you'll have boiling water in 2-3 minutes. Couldn't be easier.

So, er, it looks like I'll be the one to ask the stupid question, but what is really the difference between milk and cream, when it comes to tea? I'm sure there is one, and I'm sure I have had both before (I used to drink a lot of coffee, after all), but I can't set them apart off the top of my head...

For myself, honestly, I can barely tell there's milk in the tea (other than color). It makes the flavor of the tea somewhat milder, but that's about it.

Cream, on the other hand, would change the texture and has a much stronger taste to it. The result is a bit of a calamity.

I prefer tea as leaves + water. Milk and sugar take away from the wonderful natural flavor of the plant. Just steep some foliage and enjoy!

Stop filling the tubes with your nonsense and get a kettle for work...unless, of course, you work in a situation where they will not allow you to have a kettle...in which case, quit and find a better place of employment :D

Very much as the HHGTG describes tea is the perfect food. The specifics of preparation, much like the described teaching of Jesus are varied and all of them are wrong except for your version. You cannot fault a fellow drinker of the tea for not knowing the one perfect method of creation, you simply accept your lot and drink their polluted and corrupt version while fondly recalling the last time you made a perfect cup (which is rare).

Now, for a tea drinker to accept tea from a source outside of their own creation (usually this is tea made at home in a specific vessel, for boiling, steeping and drinking - with various specific brands of milk and or sugar) is a leap of faith.

To have someone continually bungle orders is nearly unfathomable: I've agreed to come into your shop and order tea, knowing it's not going to be near-perfect and likely not even great - but you can't even get the ingredient correct? Mind boggling.

Truly it such an epic bungling, that I return on occasion to confirm that this phenomenal event still occurs. On a a bad day (?) I am proven wrong and she manages to get it right, and I'll enjoy it - to whatever degree is possible. Let's not bring up the question of repetition, and that I don't change what I order - or the fact she recognizes me.

The first question would be: have you ever had a perfect cup of tea? If you're not sure, then you haven't had one. A perfect cup of tea is a perfectly balanced equation of a real experience in your life and totally fantastical awesome. if you are driving or about to leave your tent to begin a military engagement, you are going to be in serious trouble: you have to sit down and do nothing but appreciate it. They are that rare.

If you haven't had that cup, find the method you like most and keep practicing - if you are blessed you will get a perfect pot instead of just a cup.

Well, no... I think. I am not sure, so that means no, right? The first girl I met in college took me out for tea for our first date, but I don't remember the tea at all.

I really do love Thai Iced tea, there is absolutely no hyperbole in my saying it is one of my favorite beverages and one of the finest things I have ever consumed in my life. It is like being punched in the mouth with awesome.

It goes without question, I am exaggerating. It is only a beverage, the perfect the penultimate beverage, but still only a beverage. But, if you do get a really good cup, you do typically stop what you were doing and just enjoy it.

Dear lord I love me some Thai Ice Tea... mmmm orange/brown colored goodness.

In fact, I might have to go get some here in a few minutes its so good.

Ever tried to make it? I got a pre-mixed tea mixture thing from the oriental store and I failed.. multiple times, it just never tastes the same as from a restaurant.

There is no way you can (a) complain about shitty service and horribly abused beverages while continuing to go there with your order, and (b) discuss the revelation that is the perfect cup of tea in the same thread as (a) ;)

I haven't, but I do know of a local market that sells it and have been contemplating getting it. They also have it in bottles, and it is pretty good but not nearly as strong. It is more like a love tap in the face with awesome rather than a punch.

Man, I couldn't imagine the english language without the word "wank". It'd be like green tea with cream and sugar:D

But seriously, it has indispensable use as one syllable, gender-neutral verb when used literally. I can't think of another, except "frig", that fits that criteria, but no one ever seems to know what that actually means.
