View Full Version : PAX Prime 2010 - Anyone actually going?

So far I'm not hearing of too many people going to PAX this year. According to Gabe, it looks like 3 day passes will be selling out this week (http://twitter.com/cwgabriel/status/18455121939). I wanted to get a good idea of who is coming and who isn't. I'm starting to think it might not be worth spending the money if so few people are going or maybe just getting a one day pass.

I'm still going and I will multiply my fun by the number of people who can't go. People who *don't* go, on the other hand...

Interesting, is that a class feature or racial attribute?

I think it's because we all know there's a bunch of us that are definitely going and wouldn't miss it.

I'd be surprised if there were less people than the last time I went back in '08.

Unless you can pay $350 for the flights and $350 for the hotel room, it won't be happening this year. Also, last year sorta screwed up my routine for the entire semester, basically taking off the 3rd week because of PAX and PAXconSARS. Shouldn't really be taking the better part of two weeks off during my senior year.

But if all goes well, I'll be there next year!

New PAX line ups, and new main theatre info just released today.

Quote is Link for the PA-Forum Thread

Changes for PAX 2010 (and we need your help to spread the word)

I’ll be the first to say we were surprised at how quick 3-day badges sold out, especially since we got the green-light from the convention center to sell even more for 2010. But the reason we’re able to do that is because of a few changes:

1. Registration is at the Sheraton Hotel. That’s the one kitty-corner from the Cheesecake Factory. Yeah, I know that everyone pre-reg’d so you shouldn’t need to go there, but those that DO need it (international badges, will call, etc.) can find it there on the 2nd Floor.

2. There’s an additional satellite theatre (Pegasus Theatre, Seats 1,200), also at the Sheraton Hotel, right by Registration.

3. Do you remember the Pike Street Annex? They renovated and renamed it to The Conference Center, and we’re taking space there too (Mostly tabletop and a few other exhibitors)! You can access it via either street level or down a brand new escalator in the Expo Hall of the Convention Center.

4. The Expo Hall has expanded into Hall B, which for those of you who have been to PAX know as The Queue Room. The Queue Room has been shifted into Hall A (last year’s main theatre).

5. Now you’re probably thinking, wait – if the old Main Theatre is the new Queue Room, where’s the new Main Theatre? Well – this is the biggest change, which is that the Main Theatre is offsite. It’s a big deal to us, so I’m going to make it’s very own paragraph.

The Main Theatre
It’s not very far (5-6 minute walk – about the same as from Floor 6 to Floor 1), but it’s still offsite. It’s at the Benaroya Hall (where the Seattle Symphony plays!) on 3rd and Union, and besides being not-in-the-convention-center, there are a few things you need to know.

1. Since the Keynote will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, there will actually be TWO areas to lineup. One in the Convention Center by the expo hall, and one inside Benaroya Hall.

2. For those PAX Vets, you should know that each line up area in the morning will distribute 1,000 of the wristbands for the concerts on Friday and Saturday morning. (the wristbands get you into the concert first, after that it’s first-come first serve)

3. In order to avoid you walking down to the main theatre to find there is no more space, we have a special twitter account, just for you. @pax_lines will give up to the minute updates on the line status of the main theatre (e.g.: “There are 270 more spots available in the line.” And “Sorry, there is no more space in the line for the Keynote. Please do not come down here.”). There will be a display on the first floor of the convention center that will also be showing this feed. So again: FOLLOW @PAX_LINES (http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?p=15775415)

You know things are getting freaking ridiculous when a gargantuan convention center can't house PAX. They're taking over the entire city at this point.

I think they should just move the darn thing to one of the Boeing hangars around here made for building jumbo jets. There, all in one room. No insanity. Big big doors on both sides in case of fire or riot. :p

Why they can't just limit the number of passes to allow a SANE number of people in the convention buildings only is beyond me. You don't have this kind of madness with Sakuracon held in the same place.

EDIT: Nevermind, the hangar is a bad idea... you'd never be able to hear anyone say anything, just a constant roar of noise.

Yeah my group and I are planning on getting in line for the keynote/Q&A bright and early that morning. We're thinking 6AMish. Just hang out and play some DQIX or something.

I'd definitely grab a CoG shirt. Keep me posted :)

EDIT: I was thinking of playing around with photoshop for a while to see if I could come up with a few ideas for a design. Anywhere I can find a copy of the CoG wheel?

You're not getting in that early. :p

EDIT: You're not getting into the queue room that early. I'm also pretty sure that the greencoats won't even let you into the PAX area that early.

EDIT2: There's a big chance that they'll let people queue up for the keynote inside the queue room. At least that's what happened the past few years. Which means that there won't even be a queue until everyone's cleared that room.

We weren't expecting to get in that early. We were gonna go down and wait outside Benaroya Hall until they open the doors for the queue. Can't stop us from standing on a sidewalk right?

I've never been to Pax, so we might be going way overboard with this. I have no idea what to expect. We just really wanna be there for the Keynote (even more so now) and the Q&A. Plus, we really want to get wristbands for the first concert.

On a side note, if any CoG'ers are gonna be heading down, I'm sure I could save a spot or two.

Italy was great, but brutally hot. Like 100 degrees in the shade each day and humid. We were changing clothes twice a day to keep dry and clean. Just the wrong month to vacation in that country, but it was enjoyable despite the climate. We were there for a wedding, ultimately, so we couldn't have scheduled it differently.

I have the hotel reserved, but not paid for. So I can still cancel and sell my 3-day pass, if necessary. I'm still hoping to make it as I've been planning on it, but money talks.

I was just thinking about that last night, too. I started working on one draft - I'm sure to switch things around once I start seeing some of the artwork for the Prime shirts.

When I get home I'll post up the draft in a thread so folks can put their names in for the list. :)

I didn't work MT last time (or attend the keynote because I was working ST), but I think that they're clearing the room after every panel. Keynote/Q&A might be the exception. I haven't really looked at what's going on this year though.

If the previous years were any indication, you do want to get there on time. Just not that early. Also, it might rain, so while they can't stop you from waiting on the sidewalk (and they won't), that might not be the ideal place to wait anyway. You can probably get into the convention center lobby pretty early though. There's coffee there, which might help you get through the day.

I had joked with Joey about having an anti-PAX somewhere, and I threw out Austin because it seemed cheap and central in case others wanted to go. See, flights to Seattle (from Chicago at least) are expensive as hell and when you throw in the accommodations you've got yourself a nigh-European-level of expense right there. Fuck that noise.

But other things have come up, and now it looks like not only is PAX not happening, but an anti-PAX may not be possible either. :( For me, at least.

Man, I was hoping to live vicariously through you and Rini :(

There's this whole meat pie tangent that we're putting on hold for when you can make it out again. :o

I really had my heart set on going, but unfortunately my finances say otherwise for this year. I hope that those of you that can make it have a blast. I'll try my best for next year.

So I'm out too... after China joy and Gamescom plus a marketing visit to Germany and Ireland (currently in Dublin!) i don't want to travel anymore... plus the house is finally done so when I get home, i get to move...

Sorry to miss everyone again this year but next year - it is SO on!!
