The big question tonight: If Sarah Palin were president, could she solve the illegal immigration problem?

No, Bill, she couldn't. Next question.

/Agree! I mean, she's alright for an older lady... but still. The only thing that excites me about her is that I immediately think of Tina Fey.

Palin still scares me. She seems like the type of leader that goes with whatever sounds good to her regardless of the reality in situations. I felt Bush did this a lot as well. Just a general lack of thinking things through analytically in an academic way. Bill O'Reilly having to walk her through to the point of having to deal with illegal immigrants internally once you secure the external border is a case in point. That's why I never understood the issue people have with flip floppers. I like them, it means they listen to public opinion and change accordingly. That's not a bad thing in my books for government execs. Conviction to go against public opinion may be a good thing in many cases, but as the leader of the US and the free-world - I think not.

So Sarah, we have 50 million people out right needing you to give me a blowjob, in this world now, you ARE the President. Are you going to disappoint all these American. You already stated that this is a major issue.... WAIT WAIT, don't cut me off. I have numbers that shows the recessions has hit blowjobs the hardest. As someone who thinks Obama is doing a pretty terrible job, christ on a stick someone needs to tie her up and put a ... sock in it already so we don't have to hear about her anymore. Also how does it always come back to porn?

In all seriousness, she needs to shut the fuck up because she is a goddamn idiot who clearly has no solutions. Yeah, militarize the border, that'll solve everything!

Let's build a fence along the entire border, with barbed wire, automated machine guns, and signs (in American of course!) warning all "illegals" to turn back. Let's also station thousands of troops there, and paint the entire fence red, white, and blue.

That will certainly solve our problems.

Xerxes
07-13-2010, 09:52 PM
We need to build this fence to the stop the Mexican zombies invasion of 2017. If we can't stop the "illegals" now, how can we stop the zombies!

Well now I'm in favor of a border fence. Mexico is the fairly likely to fall to a zombie infestation. Poor social services/response time and concentrated population. We need the zombie fence and the military to protect us.

Mags is right it will need automated machine guns, but the troops won't be really needed until April 2017. Some early detection traps though would be nice. Not sure if we need to electrify though. We won't know how well that will work until late 2016. Could be too late to electrify the complete "fence" by April. Only leaves about 5 months. Let's take no chances.

We should also look into freeze ray guns.

She's such a massive FUCKING RETARD. I swear on my life, if she were ever elected to any significant office, in some bizarre alternate universe, I would have left this country within hours.

Anyone that voted for her, in my book, is a massive fucking retard as well. I don't even want to know who lost to her in the Alaska elections. God, she makes me so angry; and the people that take her seriously make me sad.

I imagine it was a lot easier to vote for her when you didn't have to pay much attention to what she said and you got a big fat check in the mail from the oil companies every year. I mean shit, most politicians don't do anything for the average person. She was sending them checks every year for significant amounts.

I mean its not like I know much about my governor. Its not like I ever see the guy (though admittedly he did show up for our 4th of July parade, but it was probably the first time I've ever seen the dude). Unless he makes a public announcement on something, I don't know anything about his viewpoints or opinions for the most part. Hes a Democrat. Thats about all I know. I'm well aware of my governor. Then again Tim Pawlenty is hard to ignore. I can't wait until he's finally out of office early next year. Maybe then we can finally have legal gay marriage and better mass transit, two things that Tim loves to veto, among other important issues.

I'd trade governors with you in a heartbeat. We'd be better off with a can of Spam in the governor's office. This state was certainly better off with a former pro-wrestler in the top spot.

I don't think Sarah Palin is an idiot either, and I think that people who dismiss her as such do themselves a disservice. Sarah Palin is a very cunning strategist, and she has mastered the art of appearing more stupid/crazy than she actually is in order to gain the sympathies of a large portion of Americans who love that sort of thing. Michelle Bachmann does the same thing.

I straight up think shes an idiot who is good at saying what she thinks people want to hear. She rarely deviates from predetermined talking points and when forced to think on her feet she waffles and loses her way almost instantly. Bachmann on the other hand, I don't think is stupid at all.

That's weird, because I thought she was very quick on her feet. She wanted to talk about how the President has failed to secure the border. O'Reilly tried to bait her into saying she supports amnesty for illegal aliens. That's a very dangerous conversation for her, and O'Reilly did a good job of laying the trap. But she saw it, realized the danger, and kept circling back to her main point without quite either saying she is in favor of amnesty nor that she's in favor of deporting millions of people. I'm not sure on what basis you describe that as stupid: is it smarter for a politician to be trapped into making extremely unpopular statements?

Of course she doesn't deviate from her talking points: that's the sign of a good public speaker. Your talking points are your talking points for a reason: those are the points that are good for you in the debate. You think I like being in court and having a wide-ranging conversation with the judge about what a terrible person my client is? That's neither fun nor productive for me. Instead, I want to talk about why the other side is even worse. If the conversation starts meandering over to my client's flaws, I will ruthlessly bring it back and reiterate my talking points until I'm sure everyone will dream about my catchphrases that evening. Doing anything else marks you out as either an idiot or a neophyte.
Everything she had to say just seemed like vapid rhetoric. Additionally, she's one of the many Republicans that pay lip service to government restraint but don't hesitate to waste when the wasting is good.
This is part of the problem, it seems to me: your criticism is simply that you disagree with her. After all, no politician goes on a talk show and eschews rhetoric on an emotional issue. It's annoying, certainly, but it's also the way to get votes. Stupid people do what Rand Paul did: actually try to answer the question. Smart people aren't there to have a conversation, they are there to make a political pitch, and even the most brilliant politicians of the modern era stick to their talking points on cable.

Anyway, it's not true that everything she said was vapid rhetoric: she said she wanted to send National Guard troops to secure the border. There's lots of room to say that that is a bad or ineffectual or even dumb idea, but I don't think the criticism of Palin is that she's wrong. Or at least, I think people tell themselves that's not their only problem with her.

EDIT: What's odd about this interview is that Palin is famously bad at interviews: look at the disastrous Couric interview, for example. I don't pay a lot of attention to her, but clearly she's a lot better at it now than she used to be.
