View Full Version : Adrenaline.

I've discovered I really don't like adrenaline.

At least in certain cases. Like now. After all the drama from earlier this year that some of you might remember, I really don't like the adrenaline rush from hearing POP POP POP POP somewhere outside my window.

Been about 45 minutes ago. Sounded like 9 mil. Heard sirens about 20 minutes afterward.

Sleeping with my good friends Heckler und Koch, assuming I sleep at all tonight.

Whee.

Oh, for the record, I've already been on edge the past few weeks because there's been a rash of carjackings in town, culminating with a local rich child of privilege 50-something loading up in a car with other people from prominent local families and going vigilante (http://www.wtvm.com/Global/story.asp?S=9229954&nav=menu91_3) like a fucking idiot. This helps.

Adrenaline keeps me in the game
Adrenaline you don't even feel the pain
Wilder than your wildest dreams
When you're going to extremes
It takes adrenaline

Thanks for putting that song in my head.

Damn man, I'm sorry to hear that. I don't know about you but to me it sounds like it's damn time to move.

I know this doesn't compare very much but my wife's car got broken into last night all for a GPS. I live in a nice neighborhood. WTF?

That sucks. I've had some shit stolen off my bikes and motorcycles before, but there is almost no violent crime around here to speak of. I think my town was rated as the safest place to live by insurance companies a couple years back...

Shit I just checked and it was this year. (http://realestate.yahoo.com/promo/most-secure-us-places.html;_ylc=X3oDMTFqdXFzZzQxBF9TAzI3MTYxNDkEX 3MDOTc2MjA0NjUEc2VjA2ZwLXRvZGF5BHNsawNtb3N0LXNlY3V yZQ--). Huh.

Some jackass did drop a bottle rocket into my place through a hole in the window screen this summer. That's probably the most dangerous thing that has ever happened to me around here.

What's funny is I keep moving to better parts of town after having lived in a 'not so good' area for almost 3 years with no problems.

You should leave the cesspit of Georgia and come to Huntsville, it's a city full of engineers. My house is also pretty close to Redstone Arsenal, so almost every day I hear a nice *BOOOM*, I just wish I could be out there watching em detonate stuff :)

Man, I really don't envy you. It seems from over here like it's harder to find an area of a city where you might not be greeted with gunshots?

I used to live in Newcastle, and once in a while you would hear gunfire from over in the Benwell area, but after briefly looking at a house there we decided it was well worth staying clear, and it was dirt cheap for a very...bad reason! Apart from that, it's just not something that really crosses one's mind over here.

Bah, pussy! Wait until they start using arrows, like they do in my neighborhood. Then you won't even be able to hear the gang wars you know are going on!

Ahhhh....good times, memories of my youth... :)

As for that vigilante that was linked...good for him, he should go for a trial by jury, they'll let him off.

I don't even know if there are any people in the homes around me, my community is so damn quiet. It's like a freaking cemetery, with homes instead of gravestones!

Oooooh, great song..."My Little Town" by Simon and that other guy. ;)

Except they beat the kids while calling them niggers after stopping them and there are several witness reports that at least one of his buddies pointed a gun at a woman and her child. I hope he gets locked the fuck up, personally.

That's the safest place to be, in my experience.
Right now, I live in our town's ghetto. Not had a single real problem. Closest was one night I went out to take out the trash, and some guy was in my yard. It was only odd because my yard is fenced in. He ran away as soon as I came outside.

If you live in a shithole, and people know you don't have anything valuable (my car is a semi rusted-out POS) then why would anyone bother you? You don't have anything valuable for them to take. I had a slew of problems when I lived in an upper-class subdivision, because people would come from the poor areas specifically to rob people there.

I hear occasional gunfire, but the police station is literally two blocks from my house. I don't think many criminals are stupid enough to commit major crimes within earshot of the PD.

I keep the outside of the house looking ghetto, and have all my fancy electronics square in the center of the house. Even if anyone wanted to come in and see what I have, every door to the outside has double bolts, and I have a sign in my front window that says "Protected by Smith & Wesson". Everyone leaves me the fuck alone. :D

I agree except for the car. I hear gunshots occasionally, always have the cops in my neighborhood for something, regularly see drug deals and even found the light on and some tagging in the dust on the mirror in my shed last week, but have never had to deal with anything serious.

Besides my car, which has been broken into three times this year and my old Jeep was stolen last year. It isn't even nice, a '96 Chevy Corsica with absolutely nothing of value inside since my bicycle was stolen. I don't even lock it, and I really wish they would check to see that that is the case before they smash out my window. 3 windows in one year is wack.

Just a good ole boys,
Never meanin' no harm,

Makin' their way
The only way they know how
That's just a little bit more
Than the law will allow.

Um...yeah. :(

Me?

In one of the bad parts of a town with a pretty dissproportionate population to crime ratio (http://www.cityrating.com/citycrime.asp?city=Albuquerque&state=NM). It was considerably worse a few years back, and bedlam in the early '90s with gang violence and all.

I don't think it's adrenaline that's your problem, it's more a distaste of blinding fear. That's understandable.

I don't know, it is a pretty crime ridden place, but I love my home town.

We are one of the poorest states, I am sure that helps, and we are known for having lots of gang activity. It is sort of like LA, but much smaller.

This might be racist, but New Mexico has many immigrants and American Indians, two destitute groups, and poor people = crime.

Worth noting that the car was stolen when his wife left the car running and unlocked at a gas station in a not so hot part of town. Stupidity all around.
