I'm contemplating preordering Brotherhood from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Assassins-Creed-Brotherhood-Xbox-360/dp/B003L8HQ7S/ref=pd_sim_vg_7). I have two questions that I can't find answers for:

1) Will they charge me now, or when the game actually ships? I seem to recall reading on Amazon that preorders are not charged until the game ships, but this was years ago, and the policy might have changed. I didn't see anything about it where I looked on Amazon, but I might have just overlooked it. Anybody who has done this recently, please clue me in.

2) The $10 deal. Do they give that $10 to you before the game ships, assuming that's when they actually charge you, or do you get it beforehand? I'm trying to setup a complicated process of coupons and codes, and this is a question that I need to solve.

Also, how long does it usually take Amazon to get a box to your door with a preorder? Do they ship it on release day, or do they ship it to where you receive it on release day?

If I recall:

1) after shipping
2) same (at least, that's how it is with the Halo: Reach deal that I pre-ordered a few weeks ago)

As for shipping, I grabbed Red Dead and Alan Wake for pre-order and they both arrived on the release date (that Tuesday)

They charge you when it ships, and you get the $10 after the game ships. Unless you get release date delivery (free with amazon prime) the game usually arrives on a wednesday or thursday, depending on if you get 2 or 3 day shipping. I'm a prime member so I don't know all the specifics on shipping.

Woah, I didn't know you get free release day shipping with Prime. Well that just changes everything. I may have to upgrade now.

But keep in mind it is not with every game, usually major releases do it. I have also had a good number of fuck-ups when it came to getting it on release date. I'm looking at you Fed-Ex, here's hoping they can get my P3P to me tomorrow sometime... (they fouled up pretty bad with alan wake because the driver was different that day and couldn't find my house >_< so I issued a address change to the same address and they mentioned charging me for it, but they never did lol... I eventually got it a few days later) All in all release date (hell, any delivery) is YMMV.

Charged when you ship, you don't get coupon until after item ships/is charged, and if you use the free shipping then you get to wait 2 days or so and it arrives 3~5 days after that. Typically for me, about a week, but I live in so cal, so everything ships faster.

I should have also mentioned that I live 40 minutes away from an Amazon shipping facility.

I would venture to guess it would get there within 3 days, 4 at the latest (business days of course), assuming it comes from that facility.

Prime is awesome. I buy tons of stuff from Amazon all the time, and a lot of times the free two-day shipping ends up being one day. The other day I ordered a book Thursday night, was told I would get it Tuesday, and ended up getting it the next afternoon.

No, it doesn't take that long, even with a normal order. Can anybody give me any idea as to *when* an item that has been pre-ordered ships? Due to geography, "I got it 3 days later..." doesn't do anything for me.

I do not have Prime. I don't order enough to really get any use out of it.

My experience with Amazon without Prime, if you are ordering something that is in stock, available and is accessible from the warehouse I have had stuff on my door step within 3 days. If it's a new game you are ordering, I would say 3 days 4 tops but I think that is long for a new item. That help?

Dude, I told you.

The 2 days is for "processing" and you said you live right next to the shipping facility, so that's an extra day to travel. 3 DAYS!
