Picks of the Week

Joker HC - I generally don't buy many hardcovers, but every now and then there's a title like this that is simply a must own. Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo - the team behind the supberb Lex Luthor: Man of Steel mini from a few years back take on everyone's favorite psychopath, The Joker. This book has been in the works for a while now, and Heath Ledger's star turn as the Joker this summer will only fuel the fire. Azzarello is at his best when doing slightly 'off' characters, and I for one cannot wait for his take on Mister J.

Astonishing X-Men Ghost Boxes #1 - Now this is how you accomidate a lengthy art process. Rather than subject us to months and months without Astonishing while Bianchi catches up, Marvel gives us a side story to tide us over. And boy, did they corral a hell of a team to tell that story: regular writer Warren Ellis, Alan Davis, and Adi Granov. The titular Ghost Boxes are transdimensional devices seen in the current Astonishing story, and we'll apparently see the realities they came from, and why this one is on our Earth.

Spawn #185 - Another book sold more on the creators than the characters. Image founders Todd McFarlane & Whilce Portacio come (back) to what is arguably the most successful non-DC/Marvel book of the past 20 years. McFarlane has generally left Spawn in the hands of other creators while he's focused on his figurines business, but now he's back at the rudder of the book he launched to so much fanfare. I'll be honest: I've never bought a Spawn book, but I'm sorely tempted with this issue.

Question of the Week - It's getting close to the end of the year and that means one thing: Award Shows! This year the Tiger Men will be asking you, the Colonists, for help in choosing nominees for our Best Of Awards. This week's categories: Breakout Creator and Breakout Character. Which character and which creator made the biggest leap this past year. Any company, any genre.

Question: Is JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA THE NEXT AGE TP the Kingdom Come storyline? I'm tempted if it is...

Anyway, here is my list o' books for this week. I almost dread going to the shop as I have at least 2-3 weeks worth to pick up.

Marvel
ASTONISHING X-MEN GHOST BOXES #1
ULTIMATE CAPTAIN AMERICA ANNUAL #1

Others
The Boys #24 <--- POTW, I guess... Where are you seeing this, Doc? I still don't see it on the Diamond release list.

I see that the HC of The Dresden Files is there. Did anyone out there read this? Is it an original tale or a graphic retelling of one of the Dresden books?

As for the QOTW, I don't know. I got nothin'. Well, Atomic Robo... does he count? I like him :)

What the hell? I guess I missed the memo about that change in the listings when Diamond revamped their site.

Huh. Looks like there are a lot of titles that aren't on the HTML list. Too bad The Boys is the only one I look forward too.
