Get home to my copy of Fallout promptly delivered by amazon tonight. Think to myself "this the whole family is out and here I am alone to delve into it". I get the disk out power up my 360 and I notice... Hmm... My controller is flashing like it can't find the xbox. No worries, I think, let me sync it up. I go over to my xbox and press the button to have it search for the controller. The lights flash on the xbox like its working but still no sync. Thats when I look at the screen and see the "BabyJesusDC is logged into XBOX Live" popup, but that's funny its not going away.

I restart it and BAAAAAAAMMM, red ring of death.

So my xbox 360 crumbled on the weight of me getting the disk out of the box.

Nice. Oh well looks like I have to avoid spoilers for 2-3 weeks while its in getting fixed. Maybe if I'm lucky I will get one with an HDMI port.

I wanted to nuke MS about 20 minutes ago. Fucking pain in the ass. They don't even ship you a box anymore you have to get a UPS label via email and find yourself a box and packing materials. Not to mention the barely intelligible support people. Took me almost 30 minutes on the phone spelling my name 100 times. Also the retarded voice activated phone tree that kept thinking I was saying "Main menu" instead of "agent" when I finally got through the automated troubleshooting of fancy this, "Unplug everything and plug it back in and try starting it up again" like even an ape wouldn't know to try that first.

The thing that sucks the most is I was going to have some time to play alot in 2 weeks as I am off of work for the week. I guess I will just be playing PSP games. Or maybe I could break out the gamecube and finish some games I never got around to finishing. Or simply pick my nose.

I lost my DVD drive on Saturday night while trying to finish up Fable 2. I feel for you.

I thought I'd just swap out the DVD drive with a spare my cousin had, but sadly that is not the case :(

Sadly, they're making a whole specific mobo (Opus) in order to refurb Xenon cases without having to give you HDMI.

That's if they're even using them yet. I haven't heard of someone confirming yet that Opus has been deployed.

At least they're fixing yours on their nickel. I'm still SOL. :mad: Good luck!

What's funny is that I bought a launch 360 because I was fed up with the super shoddy PS2 hardware and since the Xbox was a brick, I thought the 360 would be a brick too. I assumed going on PS2 hardware problems that the PS3 would fall apart before I even got it out of the box. Now I'll get a PS4 before I get a 720 (if they launch the same day).

I was able to score a used 360 a while ago for $100 bucks so I couldn't care less if my main unit breaks now. Not only that, I loan it out to all my friends who live locally if they have to send theirs in for repairs so no one is ever down. Makes a great back up divx player in the guest room when everyone is up and running.

So just when will this plague end? My prediction - never.

Microsoft had better get things right from the get-go with their next console saying as they've been given somewhat of a pass this time (thanks in no small part to the $1 billion 'investment' and the software catalog).

To be fair(if thats possible with this bullshit). The first one I had that died, died possibly before they had figured out the problem fully. Either way its a pain and I don't know what I'll do if another one dies, probably wait again because I have too many games.

I have sitting here that I was playing, Dead Space, Fable 2, Lego Batman, Fallout 3 and Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga. And GOW2 on preorder.

I was hoping to wrap up Dead Space in the next few days.

I got mine back in five and it's fucked. It red-ringed when I first turned it on, now it's got a problem with the display being garbled ever second time I turn it on.

When mine red ringed (it was a refurb from game crazy) I just got a new arcade unit with HDMI and slapped on the hard drive. I figured if I got one back that had HDMI I would just return the arcade, but the one I got back didn't have it, so I just kept the arcade and gave the old one to a friend. I haven't had any problems with my arcade, and i've had it for about 6 months now.

That sucks that they don't even send you a coffin anymore. I hope yours gets back to you soon.

I'm actually hoping mine can't be repaired so they have to send a different box. I was never 100% happy with it to begin with because the drive tray was written on by whoever had it before me and it was a bit louder than my launch box.

Sigh! Wow, so much for a painless process to ensure quality customer support huh? At least that's what they said when my 1st one died. Sorry to hear. Here's crossing my fingers you get your's back promptly and I never have to deal with that again. Hell, it's almost worth avoiding the hassle to go out and buy a new one. Only if you didn't find yourself in a similar situation a few months in the future.

I have to say that I am probably not going to buy the next MS console for a while after launch, if ever. I have had one RRoD so far, and the way my unit is chugging on Fable 2, I fully expect another in the very near future. I know that compared to others I'm pretty much a RRoD virgin, but even so it is just a stupid thing to deal with.

I would love to be wrong on this one, but I thought the replaced console just continued with your original warranty (i.e. if your box red rings after two years your replacement with have a year warranty left on it).

I have an original launch that I think is starting to show signs it's going to die. Both Ms. Claus and I have seen the RROD but turning it off and turning back on for now seems to work. I'm just hoping it lasts long enough to get Ms. Claus to finish Fable 2...

Wow, some good news hopefully. They already completed the repairs and my system should hit the ups truck tonight. Although they have it as sig required, which almost always make me have to drive 20 miles to UPS to pick it up.

Since they just received it yesterday, its probably a different system I would think. This one better be good darn it!

It seems like they are under extreme pressure to get these things in and out as quickly as possible, regardless of quality control.

That sucks, and screen corruption is what happened to my first unit although not quite as bad. It never ringed on me.

Man, I'd carpet bomb MS execs and post your situation on the consumerist. I just wish we knew if the "new" boxes were having the same issue. If they were more reliable I'd just buy a new one. I have too many games not to have a 360.

I got my unit back today, same case and serial but the guts and DVD drive are "new". Its almost whisper quiet now. Played a couple of hours of GOW2 and it seems well. Here's hoping it lasts. I don't understand why they would keep the same case and replace everything else though seems too labor intensive to replace the entire guts to save the case. But whatever, its working.

The 360 in the local Walmart display had RROD'd (is that even correct?).

I laughed to myself, then saw Fable 2 behind the class, and quickly shut up. Goddamn it, Microsoft. I don't have a 360 but damn I loves me some Fable (played my original Xbox and then PC copy numerous times) and reviews for 2 are really good.

Well, less than a month later and for the most part my replacement xbox is toast again. No 3 red rings but now and E74 error and a single red light on the bottom right most of time when I start it up.

What sucks is at least for now, once I get it to boot its fine. GRRRRRRRRRRR. I am sick of this shit officially now. I have games to play dammit.

When I told him that it was just serviced a month ago he actually sounded like he fell out of his chair laughing. NICE.

I bought a second 360 back in the spring because mine from spring 2006 died (the disc drive, not RRoD) and I didn't want to pay for the repair if it would just RRoD down the road anyway. Well, mine died last week from the NXE update (I wanted to install the update so my girlfriend could play around with the avatar editor, even if we can't play any disc-based games on it). It has 3 or so months left in the warranty as well, so I got lucky.

Also, each time you send it in for RRoD, I think you get another year on it for all repairs. Only makes sense. Doesn't sound like that happened with JAYoung's, but then again his situation is FUBB (fucked up beyond belief).
