So let's talk about good sports games on the SNES!

Football: My late acquisition of a cheap Genesis and a pile of games at one point made me something of a lifelong fan of Sega NFL games, but the Tecmo Bowl games and Super Play Action Football provided hours of football fun as a lad.

Basketball: I played a fuckton of NBA Live 95 and Tecmo NBA back in the day. Actually, my family got started on Tecmo NBA on the NES, because my mother got big into basketball (my mother actually drove many of the earlier video game trends in my household until the PS1 era). We also had NCAA Basketball, which was pretty nifty for the time what with the behind the shoulder Mode-7 3dness and all.

Baseball: Uhh, I got nothing. Not for normal baseball anyway. Super Baseball Simulator was kinda cool for the gonzo superpowered robot baseball factor..

Hockey: At some point we got hold of a copy of NHL Stanley Cup, which was cool for much the same reasons as NCAA Basketball, though that one tended to be kinda dark at distance which made full court visibility tough.

Soccer: Totally blank on this one.

Speaking of SNES baseball, there was this minor league baseball game I would often play with my cousins.

I'll try to hunt down the title.

Also, the NBA Jam games were great for their time.

Eh. I grabbed that recently while seeking Megaman games, and I honestly wasn't impressed. Manually selecting each teammate even for just a pick up game was kinda clunky, but more importantly, the computer is cheap as fuck with it's unblockable goal after unblockable goal.

I played the hell out of NHL 94.

The only sports games I can remember from that era are the NBA Jam games, and they were awesome. I played them for hours on end.

I cant remember playing a ton of sports games on the SNES. I think I might have had an NHL game at one point or another, but most of the sports games I played were on the original NES (Ice Hockey, Blades of Steel, Baseball All-Stars). SNES was more of an entry into the RPG genre for me.

I played a lot of the NHL series with friends, and I think Ken Griffey, Jr. Baseball was pretty decent.

NBA Jam ate up sooo many hours of my childhood. I mean come on, a game where you can play as George Clinton, Bill Clinton, Al Gore, the Fresh Prince, a Gorilla, or Heavy D, just to name a few?

Also, Al Gore was nasty from half-court.

sega genesis was my first console.
sports
madden 04 (end around was the money play)
World series baseball (first game to have both real players and teams)
NBA JAM
and some olympic basketball game with the dream team, that game was all kinds of awesome too.

Yanno, it's really hard to nail down a realistic game pace in some of these older basketball games.

I just played a game in Tecmo NBA, 12 minute quarters, Normal speed for most of the game except the 4th quarter, and the score came out Portland 221 - Cavs 202. Buck Williams scored 76 points that game.

That's just crazy.

If we were doing NES, I could throw out my all-time favorite sports game.
So I will anyways.

This game needed a SNES sequel.

nothing like breaking the unrealistic score mark in a sports game.
for example, as I got older, playing madden 94 became a 100+ - 7 affair

until rubber band technology ruined games.
Like Madden 09 and their it's stupid ability to run all over anybody with anyone, break multiple tackles and just generally make you throw your controller into your TV. I can't even count the number of times anymore where I've been 3 and over 10+ on defence and had them do a dump off play where the guy runs for like 20+ yards.

Madden all the way! I remember regularly receiving the punt returns running back to draw all the players down the field and then cutting across and up the sideline for the touchdown.
