And now a spiritual word from Father Gnome:
Dearly Beloved, we are gathered together here in the sign of the weekend – and in the face of this company – to join together these gamers and this weekend in holy matrimony, which is commended to be honorable among all gamers; and therefore – is not by any – to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly – but reverently, discreetly, advisedly and solemnly. Into this holy estate these two persons present now come to be joined. If any person can show just cause why there should not be any gaming done during the glorious days called the weekend – let them speak now or forever hold their peace.
The weekend is the union of gamer and games and consoles/PCs in heart, body and mind. It is intended for their mutual joy – and for the help and comfort given on another in prosperity and adversity. But more importantly – it is a means through which a stable and loving environment may be attained.
Through marriage, These weekend gamers and this weekend make a commitment together to face their disappointments – embrace their dreams (achievements, trophies , finished games, lessening the backlog) – realize their hopes – and accept each other’s failures (deaths, redos, restarts and checkpoints). These weekend gamers and weekend will promise one another to aspire to these ideals throughout their lives together(marathon gaming stopping only for food and drink) – through mutual understanding(weekend arrives, gaming continues) – openness – and sensitivity to each other.
We are here today – before the gaming goddess – because marriage is one of Her most sacred wishes – to witness the joining in marriage of weekend gamers and the weekend. This occasion marks the celebration of love and commitment (love they games) with which this man and this woman begin their life together. And now – through me – He joins you together in one of the holiest bonds- weekend gaming.
You may now grab your controller, turn on your console/PC and game until you can game no more.
What I plan on celebrating with this weekend:
Toy Story 3- In the grips of this game. Just when I think I can put it down, it shows off another cool item to use in the open world Toy box.
Red Dead Redemption- Mission, missions and more missions. Or so I tell myself.
MGS: Peace Walker- The game that is getting ignored but shouldn’t be.
Rock Band- Some tunes maybe from the Fab 4 or I’ll dive more into the lego version. What I’m not playing is…
Lego Harry Potter- I am sticking to my promise to finish what I’m playing.
Father Gnome asks “What are YOU playing?”

I'll keep on playing The Last Remnant, It got it's claws in me and won't let go.

Haven't really played NMH2 this week, I should put some hours into that. There is, of course, Transformers. I've been logging into WoW every day for a chance at the holiday pet, which I've had no luck with; also running a few BGs on my hunter now and then. Been playing quite a bit of Fallout 3, the game that keeps on giving. I don't even know how many times I've played through it at this point, I keep getting dragged back in every time I see a cool mod I'd like to try.
I keep looking at a Transformer I've been wanting (Animated Arcee), but I've been trying to fight the urge to buy it; A) I'd have to order it at an inflated price on eBay because I don't have a Toys'R'Us and B) I don't have the space to display the ones I currently have. I really need a whole shelf just for that shit, at this point. It doesn't help that I keep stopping by /toy/ even though I know they just encourage me to buy shit I don't need.
Anyhow, that's the life of Heretic at the moment.

TLR is something I really want to play but as usual the new stuff gets me then I never get to my backlog. Hopefully this month i'll look to the backlog for a JRPG to play.
Is TS3 good? Well my rantings about it made Spiggles go out and buy it :D. Like I've stated before, I read a feature article on it a few months ago. The article made it seem like it was going to be different and it is. If you like platforming games, go for it. And if you like open world sandbox games even more to go for it. Well maybe when it goes on sale. I don't suggest to many games at full retail price. But fun? Hell yes. And even Spiggles said it's had some challenging moments so it's not a total cake walk.

I'd say buy it. You are young, not attached...no kids....go for it. Enjoy life. Even if it means eating ramen noodles :D
Well i'm doing a Spiggles today. I'm working my first double shift (yay!). I can at least be around here on the second shift more than I can on the first. I did bring my PSP though:D

I'm on VACATION!
Okay, so not for another 10 hours, but at 5pm today I'll be officially on vacation. We aren't planning anything major, but that's how I like my vacations to be. I don't like to stress about stuff while on vacation. I don't like to stress ANYTIME.
We are going to the ocean at least one day this coming week with our son. I'm also going to be lounging at a relative's pool with beer and a book. Lobster feast on Sunday with the family (though I don't eat lobster myself), going to the fireworks that night. That's all I have planned so far. Besides gaming, and that should entail the following:
Red Dead Redemption - I'll beat it either this weekend or coming week.
Blur - I'll probably play a little of this
And at least one of the following once I finish Red Dead:
Ass Creed II
Bioshock 2
Killzone
Uncharted 2
3D Dot Game Heroes
Divinity 2
Batman: AA
Dead Space
Just Cause 2
And probably a few other titles I have sitting around that I didn't mention. I'll probably only get to one new game, but I have a big list to choose from--my unplayed shelf is getting really really big.
And hopefully my 360 Slim will be in next week, though I'm not holding my breath.

I also am going to continue to work on sorting out my books into must-haves, donate pile, and maybes. I need to get a couple Rubbermaid tubs from Wal-Mart this weekend. I hope I can get rid of a lot, but I know my hoarding tendency with books. It's hard.
If anyone wanted any books on here I would give them away for the price of shipping. I'll have to list what I have, which might be a bigger undertaking than I'm willing to do. Who knows.
I'm doing all this so I can clean up the home office and get rid of some of my earthly possessions. We want to move a hutch into the office and free up some living area space, and since our house only has two walls that are big enough and without windows, one being the office, that's where we have to move it to. Since my wife doesn't like the bookcases, she doesn't want them back out in the living area. That's fine, they aren't the best anyway, just cheap things I put together. And I don't want them to ever tip over on my son anyway, which they are a bit wobbly when not loaded down like they are now with too many books.
I'm also going to use the excuse to look at getting an e-reader, which Mags tells me not to do. I'm not going out right away to get one, but I'm entertaining the notion. Woot had a Kindle yesterday that sold out before I got to see it. In August the Kindle 3 is rumored to hit or at least be announced, so I might wait a bit to see what the future offers for these little devices. I don't think I would want to wait long enough for color e-ink to be created and put into these things, and I definitely do NOT want to pay for an iPad. So...we'll see.
At the very least, it will be fun to see what I have. Last time I went through my books was when I was unpacking at our new house 13 months ago. It will be hard to get rid of a lot of them as I just haven't gotten around to reading many of them. Sorta like my backlog of games. :)

I need to do that with my books too, Kel. I used to have at least one room that was basically wall to wall bookshelves. I've gone from that down to one large and one small bookshelf. Sigh.
I don't want to part with most of my collection (same with my DVDs and games) but making that final decision to just purge... stuff... is difficult for a hoarder like me :)
I'm working Sunday but otherwise have the weekend off after this afternoon. Time to get some gaming done! I kind of wish that I had just booked this shift off today because I am feeling incredibly superfluous here at work.
Toy Story 3 (PS3) - Curse you, Purps. This game is far too addictive. I might try to blast through all of the story missions so that I can focus on the Toy Box mode. I might fire it up tonight and play with my son if he's good :)
Alan Wake (360) - I should get back into this and try to wrap up Episode 4. I'm at what I assume is the midpoint of the episode.
Dragon Quest V (DS) - I just finished up the first real 'quest' in the game today. I'm really digging the game (as I do most every DQ game) but my quandary is this. Do I wait until I finish DQV to pick up DQIX or do I get DQIX right away even though I've also got P3P coming next week and no real intention of playing DQIX until I finish up DQV... Arg!
Bioshock 2 (PC) - I quite enjoy what I've played of this so far and will hopefully get some time in over the next couple of evenings to explore Rapture 2.0.
RDR (PS3) - I might fire this up but it's kind of on the back burner right now. I just got to Mexico and that seems a fitting place to take a break while I work on a few other games. We'll see if that resolve lasts very long :)

Yeah, I was the same way for a while. I kept gaming magazines since the mid 90s. I think I still have the classic PSM magazines, first edition onward. I have a few Nintendo Powers back in the NES and SNES days. One has a guide to get secrets in Link to the Past!
It's hard to get rid of that stuff for me, as it feels like a piece of my history. The nostalgia factor is huge as well when I re-read them. I like to take a few old gaming magazines and read them on the can every year or so. Brings back the memories.
That said, I tossed out a TON of them last year. But it was so long ago I forgot about it until now. So...it's not like they'll ever be truly missed--I only remember I have them when I stumble upon them in the closet every couple years it seems.
If I could just get my wife to get rid of her old clothes instead of packing them into crates and putting them into the eaves of the house, we could thin down our useless possessions even more. I am also going to go through my wardrobe this week and donate my old clothes. I wear about 5% of what I own it seems. Much of it I've grown out of because of my wife's cooking, and though I always planned on getting back into those clothes it would probably be more realistic that I just buy new ones if I ever slim back down.
I'm huge on trying to keep things spartan despite our possessions, and that's why I am trying to fix up the living room. One, that huge hutch feels out of place. Fucks up the feng-shui. If I don't like it in the office, I'll just sell it. Two, we bought a new sectional with couch, loveseat and chaisse lounge in October. Got it home and I realized it was too big for our space. It fits fine, but I don't like that it's so darn huge. I want to sell that now and get a more realistically sized set. I just don't like things looking...cramped.

A lot of things I've tried to justify keeping as I would pass them on to my son to read when he's a bit older, etc. It's harder to do that with some things, to be sure, especially when they've been sitting in a box untouched for several years. I finally tossed some auto show brochures that i picked up in 1993 at the Geneva Auto Show. Sigh. I did find the missing D&D module that I've been looking for for the last 3-4 years though, so that was nice.
I have books scattered about in various tubs after my clearing out and move few years ago. Fortunately I have not collected many since that move. One reason I am really thinking about an ereader myself is to avoid having to deal with keeping up with books. The other reason is I haven't been reading much and I think a shiny new electronic device will motivate me to read more. The instant access to books without having to leave my couch might.
As for games, I'm going to give Mass Effect 2 another go this weekend.

Scribblenauts showed up yesterday, kinda hoping I warm up to because just after the tutorial it seams kinda meh.
Fragile Dreams hasn't showed up yet but I have my fingers crossed!
Bioshock 2, which I want to start a new game of and rip those little irritations open like beer cans, set the bumpmapping on the card down for some reason but it made Fallout 3 run great currently so I'll live with it.

You crazy people, talking about getting rid of books. Generally my wife and I only get rid of books if we find we have duplicated hanging around. In fact, one of the big reasons we want to get a house some day is just so we can have enough room so we can have all of our books out, instead of packed up in boxes.
As for gaming, I'm still deep in my Patapon 2 addiction. I think I'm relatively close to the end of the game. I'm glad, since P3P comes out next week. That will assuredly be my next obsession.

I might get a few rounds of Puzzle Quest 2 in while my GF is doing schoolwork in preparation for our trip next week to fucking Italy! I'm so psyched. Rome, Venice, Florence, and then my friend's wedding in the Tuscan countryside. Nine days.
I've spent a couple hours revisiting the cities in AC2, just noting the major churches and such so when I'm looking at them in person I can say, "Pshh...I climbed that, jumped from the roof and stuck a dude in the fucking throat. Next!" My GF will likely look at me, roll her eyes, and continue eating her gelato in silence.

The ironic thing is it seems for most people that having a dedicated device DOES increase the amount they read. And they're light enough to hold with one hand and you don't need to keep them open, so it makes it easy to stay comfortable as well.
People are talking about how the iPad will wind up crippling or killing dedicated ereaders, but I doubt it. One, iPads are $500 minimum. Two, they have an LCD screen which isn't as favorable as e-ink and no backlight. Three, they are $500 minimum. Four, they're heavier and not as easy to hold as an ereader.
I would love to have a reader that had color ink, which would make comics and text books awesome to have. I've seen comics on the iPad via the Marvel app and I have to say they are gorgeous. But it's still cost prohibitive for me.
I'm still on the fence, since the last thing I want to do is buy an ereader and wind up not using it as much as I hope. I'll never get rid of physical books entirely, but this could be a great supplimental item.

I'll be finishing off Assassin's Creed tonight, hopefully. I only have two kills left, unless they add some after the ninth.
After that, instead of diving right in to Assassin's Creed 2, I think I'll take a break with it and go into Alan Wake. I also might pop in an older game; I still haven't beat Bioshock, despite getting it on launch almost three years ago.

If my kids were magically 5 years older, I could feel safe about setting up my basement with a few more bookshelves and unload most of the boxes but as it stands now, I've got far too many books and nowhere to put them and my wife is demanding I do something about it.
It doesn't help that I have this crippling comic addiction either. Every week or two I bring in a bag of new comics and graphic novels that needs to be stored somewhere. Sigh. It's funny. Over the past few years I've been reading a lot but novels and 'real' books are taking a back seat to all of the graphic novels and comics that I've been devouring. I'm not sure why, but probably because I can whip through a GN or comic in a fraction of the time it takes me to read a novel, at least since I had kids and got busier at work. I used to read at least one novel a week but ever since I had kids that number has decreased significantly. Sigh again...

I remember watching the Venice episode of "No Reservations" late last year after having just finished AC2 and there was a panning shot through the fish market that gave me a nasty bout of cognitive dissonance because of how accurate the game had been to that same shot. I was just thinking, "I've jumped up onto those rafters and run across those same tables while being chased by guards."
Shows how well the team at Ubi did their homework :)

Some people think they'll see plans where you get an ereader for free but locked into buying so many ebooks after that (like the old Columbia House CD thing). I think I'd be fine with that actually.
$50 readers would get people to jump on them like crazy. $150 is a bit steep for me right now, but it's certaintly starting to get my attention.

Yes, it was yesterday, but I worked yesterday so I could get a three-day weekend, so today is my Canada Day. After watching Netherlands-Brazil, the plan includes:
Mass Effect 2 (360): They weren't kidding when they said they optimized the resource-gathering slog/minigame. The cursor and planet move something like five times faster, and it seems to me like they've reduced your fuel consumption rate for travelling between stars, too, though I could be mistaken. I have everyone's loyalty missions queued up except for one of the DLC characters (not recruited), and one character I don't even have a dossier for (I assume he/she/it is related to the Geth 10G achievements?), so I'm closing in on the home stretch, having now matched my ME1 playtime (32-33 hrs). Gonna do all the DLC missions, do five N7 missions for the achievement, get as many of the upgrades as I can and go to town. Hopefully, this will be done soon.
RE5 or Space Asshole (PC): Still undecided, but leaning towards RE5.

Just got a little Alienware M11x so I will be installing a bunch of Steam games (which coincides with my wallet hemorrhaging money to said digital store).
So I will be playing Steam Catalog this weekend...or trying to buy all of it at least.
If I have to chose, I will probably play...oh God where do I even start? Mass Effect, Bioshock, Borderlands, Red Faction, Civ, Dawn of War II, Torchlight, Winterbottom, Beat Hazard, GTA (all of them), on and on and on...
I've spent a bit of time today playing The Oregon Trail that I apparently got for free from the app store. I purchased it and The Settlers and I was only charged for The Settlers. Saved me a whole dollar. I'm off to buy a taco.

I'm getting no real game time this weekend. It looks like it is going to be iPhone or nothing. Consider it payback from a few weekends ago when I had my full uninterrupted weekend of gaming bliss playing Trauma Team. My ex went out of town so my daughter and that bundle of everything nice she totes around with her will be here until Monday. They started staying last night and well.... ....apparently my daughter needed some sleep because at 2am Hai and I were still hanging out.
Tonight we had to deal with explosive poop. Hai got it all over herself and tried her best to get it on everything else. I know that girls are made out of sugar and spice and everything nice so i am trying to figure out where that smelly stuff came from. It could not have come from her.

I finished the story mode of Toy Story 3 tonight. I still have to go back through some of the levels and find missing cards and such. And Zurg's head.
Speaking of which, I also unlocked Zurg's spaceport in the Toy Box. Alas, I'm stymied as to what on earth I'm supposed to do when I actually get into space. I feel like I'm missing something...

Yeah, you saw me flip out on Twitter a wee bit there. It just...ugh. So slow, so kludgy, so hard to flippin' see with Muscles McSteroids taking up half my screen. Like I said, I may take it right down to Amateur -- I had a hunch I might need to before I even started -- and that may be more enjoyable, just because I'll probably have to dick around less with ammo, or I can keep breaking shit in Red Faction: Guerilla.
Incidentally, how far in to the game do you have to get before you can start jumping vehicles off of roads and into buildings like people talked about on podcasts last year? So far, I'm mainly driving in a quasi-orderly fashion (i.e. not jumping off cliffs into buildings) and using charges a lot. Do the opportunities for extreme mayhem come more once you've left the first territory?

I didn't care for RE5 either. It'll probably be the last one I buy.
In response to my earlier post: I beat Assassin's Creed tonight. It really got good in the final parts of it, and now I'm all over the story. I went and read into some greater detail about the things at the end of the game, and it hooked me. I still think I'm going to take a small break from it, as I am kind of exhausted of hopping buildings and killing shit.
Alan Wake, we meet tomorrow.

Huh... I saw someone else playing it on stream, and decided to give Fusion Fall a try. I have to say: It isn't half-bad. Especially since it went free-to-play back in April. I don't think it even has premium items or anything, and they apparently still add content to it. It's simple, and easy, but it's fairly unique and has decent character customization (at least, cosmetically). They even worked some platforming elements into the game.

Damn, The Last Remnant is a timesink of epic proportions. It´s a good thing the game constantly rewards you with stuff otherwise the grind might get too much. Beating ??? creatures can be awesome though, battles get really tense.
I'm really digging the characters. They seem far removed from the whinny teenage brats we normally have. The only 2-3 teens in it don't seem that bad and the other chara's are great. Design is top notch as well, shame about that engine, this could have been a great looking game without U3.

I've been tearing through games recently. Finished Red Dead, Splosion Man, Fallout 3, and XBLA Doom 2 all within the last week. Was sad to get the last multiplayer cake with Friends in Splosionman because we were having so much fun with it. I also did a bunch of side missions in Fallout 3 and only have a few quests I want to finish. What is the level cap anyway? I reached 20 and Im not sure if I'm still gaining EXP.
I ordered The Fallout Broken Steel Double Add On pack, and the Borderlands one with Dr. Ned and Mad Moxie too. They were $10 a piece used witj the current used sale and I hear you can just install both and dont need the disc afterwards. If so, I'll loan it to my friends I play Borderlands with then resell it. Great deal.
I will probably finish Fallout missions and Alan Wake this weekend which will probably only take a few hours total. I'll also play some more coop Borderlands (I have a level 29 Siren now). I also might get back to Final Fantasy or Deadly Premonition this weekend.
Kel, of those list of games you want to get to on your rteak, I'd say finishing main missions in Red Dead is most worthwhile. Followed by Assassin's Creed 2 and Heavy Rain.

I actually saw the post here before seeing you lose your mind on Twitter, but it's all good. I went through the same range of emotions last year when I played it. I couldn't even get past the initial starting shanty town because of how awful the controls were and how suicidal Sheva was. I don't have a problem with AI controlled 'co-op' buddies in my games, but for the love of all that is good and holy, DO NOT make the AI dumber than a brick and even more so, DO NOT cause the game to go into game over mode if she dies. If I could have revived her and continued on, I think I could have gotten over the cludgy controls. As it was, I was starting to wish I could have just left her in the shack and carried on.
Incidentally, how far in to the game do you have to get before you can start jumping vehicles off of roads and into buildings like people talked about on podcasts last year? Well I would play one story mission then go play in the toy box. Even doing that though i'm almost done which I thought since the map is mighty small. I'm still scratching my head on some of the stars in the toy box. And that is a good thing to have around with RDR since....

Pretty far in Red Dead Redemption. Just finished up what seems to be the main story arc, although I am sure that I am not done with Agent Ross just yet.
Hoping to move on to Bioshock 2 after that. For as much as I loved the first game, I really didn't have any desire to play the sequel until I could get it for under $20. For whatever reason my expectations are set super low, and I have a feeling the game will be better than I am giving it credit for.
EDIT: No Kel, you HAVE to finish all the challenges. I couldn't continue the story until I did, and you know you won't be happy with your challenge level just sitting there at level 9 when there's only one more to go. Do it. Do it. It'll make the rest of the game more enjoyable!

After all is said and done, I will probably MAKE five bucks from picking up the two DLC and wiil have given it to three of my friends to use too. It cost ten bucks but the disc is selling on half.com for $15.
As for Resident Evil 5, I beat it over six times on every difficulty, unlocked every bonus and got over 1000 acievement points in it and still loved playing it. I will acknowledge that it is alot more fun coop, but it is one of the best designed coop games I've ever played. It doesnt play like other action games and takes time to adjust to, but by the time I finished with it, I adored the mechanics. It may not be for everyone, but there is nothing wrong with the controls or design. It is precise and creates a unique tension between the fight or flight dynamic due to the fact that you cant do both simultaneously. And it clearly is designed as a coop game. Beating up on it for the single player mode is like beating up on Bioshock 2 solely because the multiplayer is mediocre.

So sort of a similar argument to Borderlands. Alright, I can buy that to a degree. Problem is, I'm not sure who I'm going to find to co-op it with me on the PC, unless GFW Live allows me to play with folks over Xbox Live, but I don't think they've enabled that for too many games.

I don't know, we'll see. If I find a cougar by accident and I can knife it (I already knifed one earlier in the game for the challenge) I'll be all set to plow forward.
I weedwhacked like a mad man today, cleaned out most of the backyard. Have a splitting headache since then, as I always do when I whack. It might be the vibration or the heat, but it's about 5 hours later and I should be feeling better now.
Sat by the kiddie pool with my son, my feet in it. I filled it up this morning and the water was pretty damn warm by afternoon. I'd have a beer but my headache would be worse I think.

See, I understand that shitty controls and lack of ammo are standard tropes of survival horror; I just don't think they're necessary. I think you can make a game tense and scary and horrifying without adding in what is, to my mind, totally artificial difficulty.
Remember Ravenholm? The atmosphere was excellent and the enemies were creepy as hell. (That was where they introduced those fast, jumpy headcrabs and the fast-headcrab carrying zombies, right?) I was glad to be rid of that place, not because I didn't enjoy it, but because I was constantly on edge throughout. That's what I had in my head going into this thing. Maybe it's my own fault for comparing apples and oranges. I just don't think a game needs to be awkward in order to be scary.
Edit:

Okay, so question. First chapter, right after the cutscene where they behead the guy, and twenty zombies start climbing the fence and coming after you. At the part where the executioner comes in, you're just supposed to book it, right? I don't think AI-Sheva's that smart, because the last time, I figured that out and did bugger off, but she stayed back and got eaten and that's when I quit. Maybe I waited too long; I dunno.

When I was doing the challenges are you doing now, I wanted to remember where I found the animals so I could pass it along since I figured you might have some trouble. More than likely you can find the animals you need above McFarlane's ranch. Go north, right before the rail road tracks and look for a tree in a meadow. That is where many of the animals respawn. I tried killing those I didn't need to have something else respawn. I am positive that is where I found my cougars (I did try Mags suggestion of the bars around 2am near closing time and that worked too...but for different reasons ).
Speaking of animals in RDR...I found the bears...or they found me. They aren't as bad as cougars. They just followed me as I galloped around them. But how the hell do you kill them with one bullet?

Speaking of animals in RDR...I found the bears...or they found me. They aren't as bad as cougars. They just followed me as I galloped around them. But how the hell do you kill them with one bullet?
I used the bolt action rifle to kill them with one shot (got lucky I guess)...at least until the last one. Couldn't kill it one shot, killed many bears trying to get it with one shot. I finally used a sniper rifle and it worked after a couple tries.
I've heard using a shotgun to the head is the best method, however. Make sure you are close.
And yeah, I have searched above the ranch and it still is hit or miss for me. I've found a cougar there once and it didn't respawn, even after skinning it. Last night I got lucky and found a cougar but I lucked out and got killed. I try to soften it up with a rifle first, but it seems I'm killing them too fast. Even a shot to the ass winds up killing them. Just my luck.

I never had any problems killing bears in one shot. I just let them get close to me, used dead eye, and shot them in the face.
As for cougars, I found a ton of them north of the ranch near the train tracks. I was actually there hunting boars and ended up being attacked by about 6 cougars. Later, of course, when I actually NEEDED to find a cougar, they were nowhere to be found. Same thing happened to me with bears. Found and killed a ton of them while looking for other things.

My original thought and attempt was to use the bolt rifle. I guess I was to far. I'll try being a Bear dentist and get a closeup of their smiles.
I couldn't do the strategy of catch the cougar by the toe (shoot em there) then go in for the kill. I just knifed em standing around waiting. I also tried bait which worked too. When you do knife them be prepared to slice and dice a few times. they tend to run when hurt. Cowards.

Cool, someone else is playing TS3. I did the alien line dance last night. That was annoying. It was fun after it was completed :p I am starting to have dreams about the stars in the toy box.
Spiggles, you must of loved the stealth part of TS3 since I know you are a big fan. I thought that part as the rest so far was well done. And the Junkyard story line mission...I had a few choice words for that level. My own fault, all the puzzles were logical but damn it's hard to think straight when you see your plastic friends about to be mauled, melted or shreded. Trying to find the crap I didn't find in the first play through will be fun. I might save that for another time.
@Kel: Have you tried the scope rifle killing animals? Not sure how useful it is but killed a few bears with it and it was fun. No one shot deaths but still scoping a bear and some boars was fun.

Scope rifle as in sniper rifle? Yeah, I managed to kill a bear with it that way.
I managed to find and kill the cougar I needed. And now I need to kill 6 raccoons, skunks and foxes. I wish the challenges were all available at the beginning because I've killed more than my share of these critters. I just don't have the energy to hunt them down now. The OCD is wearing thin and if I don't wind up beating the story missions I'll never beat this game.

I don't think AI-Sheva's that smart, because the last time, I figured that out and did bugger off, but she stayed back and got eaten and that's when I quit. Maybe I waited too long; I dunno. And that's exactly WHY I gave up there. I could get Chris out of harm's way pretty easily once I realized that I wasn't going to be fighting my way out of that mess but Sheva was suicidal... repeatedly. As I said before, if she would just go down and then I could come back to revive her, I might have soldiered on, but having her run into harm's way and die through no fault of my own (and some times despite my desperate attemps to keep her safe) and then having the game over screen pop up and subject me to that whole rigamarole AGAIN... Nope. Couldn't hack it. Some point in the future I'll try to play it with someone and HOPEFULLY I will manage to get past the initial hump and see what else the game has to offer, but man...
Took me forever to figure out at the that those last swinging platforms were for Woody. Kept trying to jump on them with Buzz.I did the same thing.
Well, today was an interesting day. We went out to hit the local farmers' market and on the way I decided on a whim that we should really go to Niagara Falls today. So we spent the day at the falls and the kids had a blast. And to top everything off, I get home and Just Cause 2 and Sam & Max Season 3 were on sale on Steam. Woo!

The world is beautiful and nice to ride around in, though. Will be hard to say goodbye to the game after I'm done.
That's what does me in with sandbox games too. I get all OCD then I tire myself out. That's why I focused on the missions today finally getting out of Mexico. I fooled a bit with Tall Trees area but was overwhelmed by the wildlife that I didn't need to shoot and skin. I will go back to story line missions.

Same here. Something finally clicked and finished the level. I was glad to have it done. I am curious how you beat the last story mission.
I had fun with TS3. I'd recommend it when it drops in price. But i'm done with it for now. I didn't enjoy the last story mission. i'll save the civil like rant but if there is a pet peeve for me and games it's the need for developers to have the last boss/section of the game so much harder than the rest of the game. I don't mind a challenge I don't expect to beat every game I play but make the challenge fair. Despite the very bad taste in my mouth at the moment for the game, i'd still tell anyone interested to go play it. The rest of the game is wonderful charming game. The end boss...i've never seen a developer in my opinion fuck up goodwill with a game like this one did.
I guess i'll have more time to pick flowers and hunt animals in RDR.

This weekend, I will be playing Titan Quest:Immortal Throne which I purchased via Steam. I had played the orginal game's campaign a few years ago, but could never beat the final boss (didn't upgrade my character appropriately). Hopefully, by starting a new campaign as the new Dream role, I'll be able to beat that fucker.
Hopefully, I'll also put some time into 3D Dot Game Heroes, maybe some Wipeout HD Fury as well; I'm less than 10,000 loyalty away from a silver trophy for my favorite racing team in that game.

Raccoons and foxes are easy. Go to Great Plains for the raccoons and Tall Trees for the foxes (you'll probably hear them before you see them). For skunks, I had to go back to Mexico. I hated that challenge.

Just reposting this from the Steam thread because it (and some Bioshock 2) are what I've been working on tonight.

Grr. Just Cause 2 keeps crashing on me. It will run the benchmarks just fine regardless of how high I crank the settings but actually running a game is an exercise in frustration.
I've made it as far as grabbing the PDA off of the guy at the beginning right after the intro cutscene (which I couldn't see, by the way, as it was hidden by the loading screen which wouldn't go away) and then it just freezes. Sigh.
I'm sure there's some setting or another that is just glitching. Or I need new video drivers, which wouldn't surprise me.

I found the very end frustrating. I didn't intend to imply the level sucked. That's why I still highly recommend the game. The overall level is a must see. Again why I say those who like platforming or just want something "fun and charming" to cleanse the palette of the "mature colors of brown" go play this. And it is absolutely silly. Which is why I really loved the level but so easily frustrated. I think once again this was a developer wanting to show "to beat MY game you need to show your gaming skills". Ok, I expect a challenge but don't be such a pent up frustrated person about it.
I thought the "go find ammo" could of been done better during the last boss fight. I don't mind running out of ammo (although unlimited would of been more proper due to the high intensity in the very last scene) but since I am not playing Halo or CoD would it have killed them to replenish my ammo AFTER I died and restart from the last checkpoint? Would that have lessened or cheapened the difficulty? It's not impossible ending to do or resolve but I think it's a dick move in a game that was a game that was all about being fair. That is my pet peeve with a developer when they feel the need to be stating "beat my game and earn it". So, funny last level? Yes. It showed what a clever and charming game they intended to do.
After sleeping off my frustration, I do want to go back into the Toy Box. I want to see if I can collect all the stars. I also want to do reruns through the levels to find all the collectibles. So I guess I won't be sending this game back yet. But play that last level? I think I rather go watch Kel play with his man junk than visit that last level again.

I've been playing a ton of inFAMOUS this weekend. The 2nd island is 100% done and I'm now working my way through the 3rd. Climbing that huge tower of trash in The Warren was damn cool. The story has taken some interesting turns, it's enough at least that even if I wasn't loving the game I'd want to see how it ends up.

I loved that island. That was probably my favorite island. The ending I really liked and have been anticipating what you think. I was the same when Kel finished recently. I just like to know what others around here thought of the ending. It is kind of sad to have to actually stop playing. Well I found I was. I wanted more to play with it :D
It seems Toy Story has indeed lured me back. The Toy Box alone I feel is worth the price of the game. Since I know most won't be buying it at full price I can say that :D. Zurg and Pixie games need to be made. Or DLC of more of these toy box "missions". Beating my drum more...if you have a kid, you want to play this game with them. Zurg and the pixies convince me even more of that thought.
@Spiggles: Is there a way to move buildings around once they are built? I have to take a picture with the mayor and town hall. He won't move from where he is (next to a saloon now) and I want to finish this gold star.
I am wondering if you have done the Pixies yet. I want to know if you did something if you did :D Cause there is bad pun/cliche that I did/thought of and said "Spiggles would of said that if he was doing this".

I can see myself picking up PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe this weekend, before it's impossible to find in stores.
I saw it at Target on Friday. :p
I'm having a great time with my mom! I got a pretty wicked sunburn yesterday, but maybe it will turn in a tan, ha!
I hope everyone is having as great of a weekend as I am. :)

So my trip through Red Faction: Guerilla (PC) is proceeding along nicely. Did you know that EDF troop carriers make excellent demolition tools? It's true!
That being said, a couple of the Transporter missions have been rather frustrating, because there's often a bit of precision driving involved in one area or another, and I'm not so good at that, controller or M/KB. But I will be going for all the Pro times on the demo challenges, I think: there's an Achievement, yes, but more importantly, breaking shit in that game never gets old.

How about good instead of great? :D I do feel guilty about staying indoors but it's to warm to do anything worthwhile and anything worthwhile involves shore traffic. One day I hope to own a home so I can putter around in. Like what Kel does but in his case more like landscape destruction/construction. I think there is a reality series in there somewhere. Landscaping tales for real men starring Keldawg and his killer tractor...

There are games like this one that so many really end up enjoying especially long after its release. I really like to go play some of them but I know better now. Some games are just better to read others play and how they enjoyed them. I would start to play then wonder why I am not getting the same enjoyment. Apparently my gaming tastes suck  ;)
Despite being tempted by the Toy Story colors and fun music I am going to see how much further I have in RDR.

My real problem with RF:G was the PC port was odd - it seemed to run in fast-forward on my PC, which made some missions (especially the transporter ones) stupidly hard.
Probably the most fun side-missions for me were the demolition ones.

Purps: You're still nuts. Aside from having it be a little tricky at times to shoot down the flying enemies, it was a cinch. Ammo was overabundant, you could basically fly from one end of the map to the other if you needed to swap out weapons and it was silly to boot.
I feel like you're playing a different game than me as I would love to commisserate about nasty difficulty and bad level balancing, but that wasn't my experience at all. Plus, cow cannon!

Well when you say "little tricky" obviously you were able to get past it. I obviously couldn't. Which is why we will continue to look differently on this :D Ammo was abundant. But getting shot up as if you were at the OK corral...bleh. Yes, I know the point was to bounce back and forth but the non-cow gun at the very end was basically useless. I just think they made it more trying than they had to be. They made the choice i'm jsut disagreeing with it. It's not Halo...it wasn't necessary IMO. But I have the Toy Box to enjoy of the game so it will ease the pain.
Speaking of the OK Corral...I finished RDR. Before noting on the end...FU to crows in general. Leave my corn alone. For those going against the crows...Dead Eye. I almost forgot I had it.
The ending...damn satisfying. R* you are growing up when it comes to your narrative. I now compare it to a B Movies but that's way better than video game narrative used to be.
Are there credits that roll in RDR? I haven't figure out how to get them to roll...despite i've done all the missions.

To my special pro-tip advisor for TS3: I'll try it out soon. So not to rile your blood pressure any higher i'll stop talking about baked goods. All that cholesterol is bad for the BP anyway :)
Ever finish a game and your head feels like in a haze/fog? That happens when I play games that are story heavy. I have a hard time moving onto something else. Maybe i'll take a cue from Mags, grab a few beers with friends and stay out all night carousing. To bad I have no friends and I have to work tomorrow. Well there is always the beer and drinking by myself :)

I always flail about for a few days after I've finished an RPG or other big game because nothing really fits the hole in your gaming soul at that point in time. I find some silly little games like Katamari or what have you help :)

Having finally gotten used to my 32" television again (did some tweaks yesterday that had RDR looking great) I plowed through some RDR missions. I need to find some stupid fucking skunks, which I'm going to attempt right now. Also, I'll pick some sissy flowers for my survivalist badge.
I don't know what I'll play after RDR is done in the next day or so. Was planning on Uncharted 2, but since I love sandbox games so much I might play some Just Cause 2.
For not playing many games this weekend, it was a great one. Spent time with the family by going to the fireworks, a parade in my hometown (my current town's parade was delayed until 1PM so people could go to church--WTF pussies), cookout and lobster feast at my parents, and other junk. Been a really nice time.
