Tiny back story... I've never played a karaoke game for my game systems before. When Beatles Rock band was announced to support three microphones at once, I found a great deal on the game Lips for $40 bucks with two wireless controllers. I just wanted the controllers and not the game. Now I had a party and thought "what the heck" and put Lips on in the front room and could not drag people off of it all night. Was a huge success.

So I had a lady friend that just got back from living in London for a year and she came over and wanted to play and said "oh, you have Singstar?". She told me how popular it was over there and how they would have Singstar parties. So I ordered it up on Goozex so she could play it and also so I could loan the game out to my PS3 only friends. Well, I got it yesterday and played around with it and neither one f them is the better game but if combined they would make the best karaoke game ever.

A friend of mine let me borrow the EyeToy and it's super creepy and a little funny watching the replays. Not sure how that will go over at a party. It should just take pictures randomly but the video thing wasn't my cup of tea. One huge disappointment of Singstar is the wired mics. This is next gen and MS and the Lips game did it right with including wireless mics with the game. Also, the mics can shake for the percussion parts.

I do like the original song selection of Singstar over Lips and the mics are thinner so they fit in a mic stand better but the Lips mics are easier to hold. Since my friends have already bought a crap ton of extra songs on my Lips account, I don't see myself doubling up and buying Singstar songs from the store. Especially with the wired mics, it's not too party safe especially with drunks around.

I may pick up the Abba disc, not sure and still looking for other Lips discs like the party one. All in all, I'm surprised just how much fun I have with these games and everyone raved about it at my last party and looking forward to get them going on the next one. At the end of the night though you always have that one drunk who won't leave and just wants "ONE MORE SONGGGGGGGG".

I haven't messed around with Singstar, but Lips is great thanks to the 300-strong DLC library. Baby Got Back, with original video.
