I'm really glad alien decided to pen this weeks comic (http://www.playitreviewit.com/dipswitch) having to do with Dead Space, as I have been literally steeped in the title for the past week.

I have played a lot of games in my time, so I'd put my judgment up against anyone's when it comes to whether a game is good or not. When it was still warm outside, and the sun was up until after 7 PM, I began to examine the coming holiday catalog, and plan out what I was going to be plunking my money down on. Dead Space was pretty far down on the list, mostly because the initial media I had viewed on the title was pretty underwhelming. I felt it would fall somewhere between decent, and totally over-hyped garbage, and pretty much forgot about it. I'd like to thank whatever force drove me to pick up the title when it arrived in mid-October, because I would be kicking myself at this point if I hadn't.

Dead Space is simply superb. I won't go too much into it, (review coming soon at Playitreviewit (http://www.playitreviewit.com)), but what I will say is, if you do not have a weak heart, and you are not absolutely opposed to third person shooters, you must play this game. There is a very good chance that I could crown this title my Game of the Year (although that probably would only happen if Gears 2 is a total turd). Everything about Dead Space exudes quality, intensity, and gore. It will leave you absolutely on edge until the last second, coupled with some of the best production values I've seen in a title before.

Buy the game, read the comic, enjoy it, you will not be disappointed.

For everyone who has doubted EA, and said that they make recycled crap, Dead Space is an enormous F U.

What are you waiting for?

I think I can recognise where the guy was in the fourth picture along :).

Chapter 5, Dr. Mercer's creation. Best part of the game imo, I had the exact same reaction.

Definitely a great part. He's such a good character, I wish there had been more interaction!

It's a tad odd, since the absolute most common comment I've read or heard up until now about Dead Space on everything from reviews to podcasts to the In Game Chat show is "this game is not scary." Usually followed by "at all. Not even a little bit."

It might not be OMG!shitmyself scary, but from little I've seen and played, it certainly qualifies as 'scary'. Whether you're man enough to not be scared by it is another question.

Den would elbow you in the face for saying that. :)

Seriously, though, I've allowed myself to accept Dead Space as presented: It's a funhouse in space. The end. It's designed to be a thrill ride, and somewhere I saw a description calling this game a theme park ride, and I agree.

Now, you can get on a 'scary' ride, and go in thinking 'I'm grown. I don't fear shit.' and when the spooky clown pops out of the box, you go 'pff! Wasn't scary.'

The only way this game will truly scare some of you is if it reached out and flicked you in the nuts (or in the case of the ladies, tweaked both of your nipples at random intervals) and I can accept that. But, like Condemned...you play this game in a dark room...especially with headphones...It's scary.

That's what I've read (not heard...read) as well. I'm a bit confused by the effusive praise here for a potential game of the year designation for this title. I'm not sure where to place this game...

Well... (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/deadspace?q=dead%20space) I think overall, it's well received. :)

I'm still playing through the game...and overall, it's pretty damned good. Glad I rented it.

See, the worst review was the one I read in OXM, which is known for handing out tens like candy (they even have an "11" on their scale, as a result of their easy ten-giveaways...but an eleven has never been given to a game). Eurogamer and 1UP (two other places I get my info on games) were not nearly as fond of (blown away by, let's say) the title (1UP gave it an A with this info: "6-hour game stretched out to make it twice that long.") I don't like that. It sounds a bit short, honestly.

Edit: 1UP actually gave it a B+. My fault. Woopsie! The A was user-rated.

I'd agree with a solid B+. This game does have some padding elements that could have been done away with. But the bright spots...the interface is almost invisible, and very well-thought out...are very bright.

The 'not scary' opinion? That's reasonable. 'Not a good game'? Not by a damned sight. This is a definite rental, and a solid franchise foundation if they go that route.

i am pretty easily agitated, i guess that is the correct word in english, but not really scared in general when it comes to horror movies or the like. its not that i crawl under the seat, but sometimes i cant take the suspense physically ;)
i was uncertain with dead space at first but i find it no too much for me, till now

Don't get me wrong, I hadn't heard that the game was bad, most people seemed to have liked it just fine. Just that it was very much an action game, and very much not a horror game.
