For those who don't know, Crossover allows you to run a great many Windows apps and games on a Mac or Linux OS, without resorting to dual booting or virtual machines. (It's how I play TF2 on my laptop)

Slashdot explained best why it's free today:
A while back Codeweavers gave President Bush a challenge to meet one of several goals before he left office. One of these goals was to lower gas prices in the Twin Cities below $2.79 a gallon, which has since transpired.

"How was I to know that President Bush would take my challenge so seriously? And, give the man credit, I didn't think there was *any* way he could pull it off. But engineering a total market meltdown - wow - that was pure genius. I clearly underestimated the man. I'm ashamed that I goaded him into this and take full responsibility for the collapse of any savings you might have. Please accept our free software as my way of apologizing for the global calamity we now find ourselves embroiled in."

Haha, that is pretty awesome.

Awesome!! Thanks for the heads up!

I've never actually managed to get Crossover working to my satisfaction, but that's because the trials keep expiring on me before I manage to track down any solutions.. not any more :)

Yep, definitely cool. I signed up for a key. Anything that can keep me from having to ever boot in Windows is a plus in my book.

Not that I have a Mac, but this is still pretty cool. I wonder if the key would be good at any time, instead of instant use? I'm gonna download this, just in case.

I tried this today, and Half-Life 2 on Steam worked just fine. :)

I just wish I could figure out how to get rid of the dock from the screen when playing...

Odd, I have never seen the dock while on screen. Try switching resolutions?

Hm, I have both the dock and menu on top of the game screen. And in the game settings I can't change the resolution at all, even if I change to windowed.

Thats... very odd. Try hitting command+m to toggle fullscreen and windowed mode (I forget if it follows the usual shortcut)

You should definitely have the ability to change video settings in game though and have them be respected. I've seen a few games where it'll have an odd fullscreen mode but Source games have all behaved perfectly for me.

Better get out the credit card (for the Mac, I mean) ;)
