Even spaced font, the enemy of letter discrimination. Just because i and l are slim, doesn't mean they deserve less room than the rest of the characters.

Goddammit, I kept zooming in and out on this page because I thought I accidentally changed the font size.

There's nothing inherently wrong with Comic Sans. The hate comes from the trend where it is used by non-designers for applications it does not work. It becomes a fad where every small business owner, landlord, and newsletter writer uses it no matter what the content.

So we hate it because it's popular?

Don't hate the font. Hate the idiots that use it in the wrong content.

I don't hate the font, in fact I feel sorry for it, it's abused in so many awful ways it's kinda sad. The font has, from a design a very strict set of uses which it's very rarely used for and now if you do use it in a way that makes sense you have all the baggage that has accrued from that abuse that it's no longer useful. Design has to take in to account perception, in fact managing perception using visual language is pretty much what design is. Comic Sans now has a perception of being armature and crude and so the only time a real designer will now use it is when that perception is one they want to get across. Which is sad because comic sans as a comic book font has it's uses which you now can't use it for.

Hotcod gets to the root of it. When fonts are used improperly they get a certain image, not just from designers but from the public as well. That degrades their usefulness, even in proper formats. A similar thing has happened to the maligned Papyrus. It has its uses but it's been so abused that it doesn't have the right impact any more.

Nothing says blue-hippy-alien taking quite like Papyrus.

Avatars use of Paprus was a case of something that had such a weight of perception behind it that it could use the font as it was intended and have it's own momentum crush the common perception in favour of the actual viable use it was created for. Once you get over the shock of seeing the font being used right by a big budget project you accept it as it was intended and it works and one can only hope that comic sans finds the same outlet one day. None custom fonts shouldn't be limited by "hahah that sucks 'cus only sucky people use it"

Except for the fact that 9 out of 10 teachers I and likey many more people ever had demanded it.

I never use comic Sans for anything, ever. Before I realized how overused it was, I just thought it looked stupid.

Who cares?

I'll never understand why people get their panties in a twist over a font. My god!

No, I just don't understand why someone would flip out over the use of a font.
