Is it possible to give a boost to the PM limit?

I asked this a long time ago and was told that it wasn't going to happen. I've just gotten used to deleting PMs.

Well, delete all your sent ones if you're still saving them...and I dunno, is there really a reason to SAVE any PMs? Just open a notepad file and copy/paste :p...if you ever need to reply/forward, just remember who wrote it and you can make a new quote for any future PMs.

I've done a lot of deals on CoG. I'd rather not lose the PMs so I can remember the convos.

Copy and paste the text into a Google Document before deleting them?

There is also the option built in to save them as text files. It's in the same menu as the delete option.

That takes more work then I really want to do.

Wow, that is beyond lazy, and an awful way to defend what you are asking for. You think upping the PM limit just happens magically? Staff has to go out of their way for that, and the extra useless PM's that will come from it will eventually lead to more issues.

Delete your PM's or save them, this is really none of the concerns of the staff here. The PM limit is plenty.

Do you think these threads through at all, or are you just bored?

So asking a bunch of other people to make an effort and put more strain on their servers, their time, and their services IS the amount of work you're ok with, but not clicking Private Messages, clicking ONE checkbox, chosing save as text and hitting "Go" in less time than it take to make that post?

Holy shit dude.

It's funny when people don't know what they're talkng about.

Out of the way? It looks like this? Takes 2 seconds.

It's a forum setting guys, once you set it, you walk away.

And the more data the server has to remember the more resources it has to use, it's not the founders fault you are too lazy to save your PMs.

Listen, I know it doesn't put any more strain on the servers. Esp with under 2000 members and 500 ACTIVE members. So don't lie to me. If you don't want to raise the PM limit fine, but I'd appreciate it people stop calling me names. I have a system where I save all my VB PMs on the dozens of forums I'm a member of. I'm just trying to keep things consistent. Consider this a closed issue.

Except it's exponentially more entries on the database, which in terms means larger queries, and more hard drive space taken up.

I think it's a fair and reasonable request, but if the guys responsible for the site and hardware say no go, that is that.

For some reason, I had never seen this option before; of course, I've summarily saved a number of PMs (since I, too, was too lazy to copy & paste all of 'em). Handy! :D

I hardly believe it exponentially increases the number of entries, I would believe linearly which would still take more hdd space and all that.

We're talking about a tiny bit of text here. I've managed enough databases (both bulletin boards and otherwise) to know this is trivial, especially compared to the volume of regular forum posts in comparison. I think y'all are being a bit harsh to the Duke.

That said, I haven't kept up with the latest iterations of bulletin boards. Is there no provision for stored procedures or some other caching mechanism?

It's a conspiracy. How else could it be explained?

Hey, I like peanut butter...can we have the CoG board dispense peanut butter?
