I currently have a socket 939 rig. My processor is an Athlon 64 3500+ (single core). I am upgrading to an Opteron 180 (dual core). Do I need to install any software to either get the computer to recognize the new processor, or to take advantage of two processors? Any help would be much appreciated.

If you have any drivers associated with this processor, uninstall them prior to the swap. Be sure afterwards, you get the latest dual core optimized drivers from AMD.

Make sure your motherboard can handle the dual core. It probably can with a bios update, or perhaps without the update. Look into it though, just in case.

I do not really know how to find optimized dual core drivers for Opteron processors. I looked through this (http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_9034,00.html) page and there are no recent drivers. The last AMD driver pack is from 2005. Is there something that I am missing?

Nah, you're probably fine if they didn't release any new drivers.
