I've decided that I'd like to do a collaborative story. I've posted an interest thread on protagonize.com which is where I'll be writing it. (http://www.protagonize.com/group/collaborative-corner/topic/1584) You'll need a Protag account and you'll have to join the Collaboration Group in order to post. Just decided to mention it here in case anyone would like to join in. I'm only in the beginning stages of brainstorming at the moment, but if anyone is interested, go ahead and post a comment to that thread. :D

*EDIT* Here's the link to the story: Growing Cold (http://www.protagonize.com/story/growing-cold)

Signed up shunoshi. I'd love to collaborate and I have some interesting ideas for a fresh take on the genre.

Excellent, glad to have you Kato. I'm probably going to leave things open for about a week or so, then see who we have and start working on character write-ups. Feel free to share any ideas you have either here or on the Protag thread.

I'll sign up if I remember. Shunoshi, send me a message through OGS and I will...I only sign on to it after work.

Done, I was hoping you'd want to take a crack at this.

Each author will be handling their own character, so think about what type of character you'd like to write about. Depending on the number of folks we get, I may have energetic authors take on multiple characters.

Heh, maybe I should have responded in here instead, or on protagonize, eh shunoshi?

I is fail.

Both would be preferable. Posting here gives other CoGers an idea of existing interest level. In the end you'll need to post on Protag since that's where the story writing will actually take place.

Welcome aboard!

I'm going to be mainly posting on the Protagonize site. I'll check back to this thread regularly, but will assume that site is the official worksite.

I've got a rough idea up over there to try and kickstart the discussion.

I popped up a quick response.

I'm right with you on carrying the story discussion on Protag since that's where it will be written.

Head's up for the few people that joined up on this, story discussion thread is up (http://www.protagonize.com/group/collaborative-corner/topic/1632)! Your input is wanted!! :D

Pfft... I already made the ultimate zombie movie. <points to brain>

Zombies in Zimbabwe (or ZiZ come times for adds) stars Will Smith and Ice Cube as best friends on safari. I mean do I really need to go on. I mean it writes it self. Zombie fucking lions mayne!

Ice Cube is actually swappable for Ving Rhames or even better, Samuel Jackson. Make it a father-son team up.

If it's got Will Smith, that means it's got to release on July 4th. =P

I've always wanted to do a collaborative zombie/end of days/catastrophe story by having each author write as a survivor telling the events from their perspective and then edit them all together to tell a single story.

That's what we're doing! There's still time to jump on board, so check out shunoshi's links provided and send him a PM if you're interested.

Kato is correct; we do have room yet as two of the original entrants have disappeared. We're at 6 authors, so I have room for 2 more. Things are ramping up and the time for joining will be closing soon though. Character writeups are underway, the groundwork for Z-Day has been laid, and the infection timeline is being worked on.

Well it is a Summer blockbuster... And you better believe I wanted him to ham it up with a few "Ah Hell Naws" when shit gets real. I really doubt I'd have Sam Jack do a "I'm tired of all these motherfucking zombies in Zimbabwe!"

Telling you, I'd crush Avatar numbers with this bad boy.

I'm a paid writer (got some credits, bit whup) but I'd be willing to do your final edit. On collabs typically one editor does a final pass to keep the tone, language etc similar. I'd also help you podcast it, if you were interested in doing some audio drama.

Welcome to CoG!

I'm not certain what future is in store for this little collab. For the moment, it's purely for fun, but if we end up churning out some good stories I may consider editing.

Thanks for the offer, nonetheless; I'll keep you in mind. :D

Woohoo! Any extra interest in this thread is welcome. I guess I should get started on a rough outline of my first chapter.

What source material are you using for the zombies? Are you using the Brooks zombies?

Based loosely off of them, yes. The zombies are purely viral. We're not following the Zombie Survival Guide verbatim or anything though.

OK, I am finally getting around to this. So, where are you guys? Is it too late or are we ready to go? I have material that I've written for a Nano a couple years ago that would probably be better suited here. :)

We are VERY close to starting, but there is still time...mostly because I'd like more writers. There are currently only 5 active authors. Check out this thread and let me know if you're interested (http://www.protagonize.com/group/collaborative-corner/topic/1632). All the info should be there.

Well, the zombie collaboration is under way. We have a total of five authors, including our very own National Kato, Kielaran, and Khyrmsyn (as well as myself). There isn't much to it yet, only one full chapter. Anyone that's interested in reading it as it's written, please do, and feel free to comment about it. Critiques are fine as well, although keep in mind that this story will be posted as a first draft without any editing or rewrites.

*EDIT* I'm relinking this to the first post for people that may come across it later. :D

Holy crap... after looking at how long your first chapter is, perhaps I need to rethink my own writings...

Sorry, lol, keep in mind that I'm used to writing in a novel format (this is actually about 1/2 the size of my usual chapter). You don't have to lengthen your chapter to match mine. Write what makes sense for the period of time. Being that my chapter is setting up the story for the initial start to the apocalypse, it was bound to be longer. Kielaran already mentioned his would be short since it involves character back story and not much else.

Write what makes sense...not 500 words or anything, of course...at least make it to 1000. ;)

Khrymsyn

Lol. Actually, I went back to look at what I wrote last night, and realized that my first two chapters were really short and probably worked better that way. 3rd one is a wee bit longer at least =)

Kielaran

As shunoshi said, I am heading the short route (I think...we will see after a chapter or two are finished). It just feels better in my mind to be more concise and work on more chapters since we are doing the time based chapter.

So my lazy ass has finally gotten my chapter out. Sorry about the slacking folks, I should have known better than to think that I would get any writing done on vacation. :)

On a side note, it is really easy to get long chapters without thinking about it.

Just pimping this story on behalf of Shunoshi and the gang before NaWriMo grids it to a halt. =)

We're now up to our 13th chapter, so head on over to Protagonize, and see what happens when 5 different authors, with 5 different styles all attempt to write a first person account of a Minnesota Apocolypse. Growing Cold. (http://www.protagonize.com/story/growing-cold)

I'm sure we'd all love some comments either here or there as to what you all think. =)

Yeah, I'm with you on the layout. I don't like the layout of the site at all. If you're trying to navigate a single story, at the very top left of the story is a "jump to any chapter" button, an at the very bottom of the story in a bright puke green/yellow with a lightning bolt is the button to go on to the next chapter.

Yeah, I didn't figure it out right away myself =?
