Shoot me over a friend invite, I should be on around 8:30 EST. Heck, anyone do that. I've got some stickers I need to get and a I need other people. ;)

Oh, and the pre order bonus stuff is live too. I'll still be rocking the zombie sackboy with a tophat more than likely, though.

My level from the beta carried over, so give it a shot if you want!
It's called "Mountain Jumper", but you're on my friends list already, so you should have no problem finding it through the friends menu.

I have some stickers and stuff to collect still, too. Things that require 4 people.

This was in the Beta. I give LBP the award for best credits after watching it for the first time.

So are all the beta levels up? I want to hold off on this game but I keep getting emails all day of people picking it up so I may cave in. No online co-op creation is a bummer though.

Yup, all the beta levels are back. It even recognized that I was the creator, so I have full control over the level I made in the beta (I can copy it and edit it, etc).

The online coop creation is coming eventually. To be honest, though, if you're actually trying to create something worthwhile, it's better to do it by yourself. You get better control over the camera. Messing around and building stupid little contraptions will be fun with online coop, though.

You go into the Playstation Store on the PS3 and it is an icon in the upper right corner that sort of has a pencil and the numbers 123 on it. Then you just punch in your code. The code is short, but Sony needs to work on their entry boxes, as it doesn't auto carry you over to the next box. You have to enter it, accept it, and then click on the next box. Minor annoyance.

But the preorder code card that I have from EB says I have to go to the URL I mentioned earlier, punch in the code on the card, then wait for Sony to send me ANOTHER code that I can punch into the redeem box.

It's dumb. If there is a different card, that'd be slick, but I asked about it at the store on Sunday and they only had the one that I have had for a few weeks now.

I hope the servers come up today.

Gorvi and I got booted from each other twice, and there was some pretty horrible lag for a good number of games I played. Even when the game was running smoothly, whenever someone joined mid level the game would freeze for a minute before it got back to normal. Hopefully it is something they can fix.

I will add you to my friends.

Yeah, that was laggy as hell. I don't know why, but I just kept lagging whenever we were in a game together. I played with a few others and it worked ok, but the lag getting into/out of a game was pretty bad. I think they may have gotten hit with more people than they expected.

If Spigot doesn't need your extra code in the end you could always pass it this way ;). (that or do a contest for it which might be a better idea).

Ok. It would be nice if the instructions ON the stupid preorder card matched up with what you need to do to get the stuff. Entering the code on the back of the card into the store worked fine (thanks anyway, Gorvi!). Of course, that completely contradicts what the card says... sigh.

Anyway, I have my Kratos, Medusa and Minotaur and stickers so feel free to toss those codes off to the next person. The next time I'm at my EB, I'll see if they have a few extra preorder codes too.

I had a 3 hour break to day and decided to pick this up and run home and try it out for an hour or so. I get home and put it in and it tells me I need to install a system update off the disc. Downloading, installing, reseting. Then my PS3 pops online and I get ANOTHER message that another update is required (this fucking game just came out TODAY how often do they do these updates? The one on the disc wasn't the latest?). Downloading, installing, reseting. Ok, now I'm ready to play. Load up the game. Oh, what a surprise, a game software update. Downloading, installing, reseting. Finally, time to play. Oh wait, or maybe not. The game has to install itself too. All told, almost a full hour past from the time I put the game in until I got to see the title screen. This is just stupid.

But at least it's done now. Time to play the game.

Spigot

Ok, I'm officially impressed. I actually hated the opening credits. I just wanted to get to the game. And I found the "tutorials" quite cumbersome and uneventful. But that is a problem with tutorials in general.

Once I got into the actual levels and the game cut me loose without constantly interupting me with explanatory text bubbles, I started to fall in love with it. The physics engine is amazing, certainly far more impressive than the physics I have ever seen in any other game. I love how you can mash on the X button to pull just a little harder to yank it up out of a rut. I also love the jetpack.

Also, this game is goddamn beautiful. I'm not so sure I like the artstyle of these first few levels with the fake fairytale cardboard cut outs, but just watching the opening demo screen is jaw dropping. The texture work is highly impressive.

Just wait till you get to some of the later stages. The game really ramps up the difficulty later on. I shudder to think about how hard it will be to do some of those levels without dying. In fact, I can think of one level where you have to die in order to proceed... How you ace that is beyond me.

The servers had better be up by the time I get home from work tonight. They have 8 hours... starting now!

It's the servers having problems. I played that one earlier and was into it in no time. That said, I rated the level 3 stars. It was fun, and pretty faithful to SMB 1-1, but it seemed just a tad clunky. I still recommend giving it a go when you don't find it not being so annoying, though.

Do try the God of War level, though. It is extremely well made.

Yea, I was having that problem a bit ago. I had played the previously mentioned God of War level and then went on to play this level made by the same person that was called Hallow Bastion (I had heard it to be pretty good from the beta players), but it would never load. I could easily go back and replay the GoW level, though. Kind of weird.

So what is a reasonable amount of time for a level to load? How fast have you guys gotten levels in the past? If it is always around 10-20 minutes per level, I think that is a major setback towards this becoming popular. People would be bothering with "YouTube" if it took 30 minutes for a video to load.

Sorry Dan, I wouldn't consider that "normal". It took me only like 10 seconds to load one of the levels online when I just got off work. I think you just keep getting on when the server is starting to die (which probably played a part in your long install time).

I guess you get what you pay for. This is totally uncalled for in first party titles that have betas before launch.

I only had one issue initially, when it was explaining the globe. I guess I got ahead of the tutorial voiceover, and the sticker for the first actual level was just a white circle. My PS3 hardlocked. Once I reset, I didn't have a problem

Now, even though I haven't been able to log onto the servers, it really hasn't bothered me, as I'm playing through all the single player stuff first, getting a feel for the platforming and creating stuff on my own. I really suck at building a basic level. I managed to build a wood thingy around the skateboard. The skateboard got stuck at such an odd angle that I was unable to move it by having my sackboy grab it and pull.

Please tell me you're joking! I had that problem with the beta. I couldn't play the game since it told me "Failed to create game" when I tried to start an offline level. When I managed to unplug my network after I agreed to the EULA I could play the single player levels, but only then.

For me it's letting me run through the single player game, which really starts getting challenging later on. I haven't even had a chance to touch the creator yet, I'm waiting til I at least get my first run through the story mode first. Of course, then I have to go back and get the stuff I missed, try to "ace" the levels, try to beat the high scores for levels, get the co-op stuff.......

Some of the later levels are hairpullingly difficult. I think I might be nearing the end of the story mode though. Oh well. I'll start making my own levels then... I've got an idea for one level but having it work the way I want it to is harder than I expected it to be. I have a lot of respect for both the MM guys and the other people who have been cobbling levels together as it's not an easy thing to do!

Oh, I did have my PS3 hardlock on me a day or two ago when I was in the level editor. I was doing something with the Undo function and it just froze the screen and none of the inputs worked. I could still hear the jaunty music though...

That hasn't happened again though, so I'm not terribly concerned.

Still no servers, but it really is giving me time to enjoy the fundementals of the game itself before messing around online. Just started playing through the level creation tutorials today and I have to say that I like the pacing of them and the way they are done. I also love the narrator who sounds like an English Aristocrat wit a very dry sense of humor. Much more interesting the generic "Announcers voice" we usually get.

That said, you're spot on. The tutorials, while there are many, are enjoyable to listen to at least once. I've been monkeying around with the level creation stuff to a certain extent and it has given me an even greater appreciation for the levels that Media Molecule and others have made as I'm having trouble getting a giant sun with my face on it to explode properly.

And let me just say, HOLY CRAP, do the final levels of the game ever get difficult.

Let's see.

They had at least one week to prepare.
They had a beta that almost everyone was in.
They state they are working on a sequel.
Most of us have yet to do anything online.
The timeout to play when it's offline it just too long.

I'd say they've done everything right except the online component was a major screw up. Who knows what the problem is? Probably demand.

However, what was the beta for again?

For me it's letting me run through the single player game, which really starts getting challenging later on. I haven't even had a chance to touch the creator yet, I'm waiting til I at least get my first run through the story mode first. Of course, then I have to go back and get the stuff I missed, try to "ace" the levels, try to beat the high scores for levels, get the co-op stuff.......

They way I plan on playing this game is just hitting the quick play option and just going on random adventures and collecting stuff with people. That is what I did the night the servers were live and it was so much fun, I didn't know what to expect. I really like how they set everything up in this manner.

I am going to scour this thread and add everyone to my friends list once I hear the servers are live and less glitchy. WE MUST FIND EVERYTHING!!

I was going to do the skateboard level by myself then it asked me if I wanted to play online and said what the hell. So I signed into this game with two other guys we get on the skateboard go down the hill, then the screen started freaking out, stuttering super bad jarring the screen from left to right, then all of a sudden, we were further down the hill. Next jump... same exact thing. I lost control of my characters but we did make it down to the bottom of the hill.

Then the kid picked a normal level and we started playing and my character kept disappearing and re-appearing in different parts. I would jump on a platform, my character would sometimes disappear, then reappear over spikes. I kept dying for no reason. It was really laggy so I just left the game because I didn't want to ruin the other guys experience.

But I was grinning ear to ear the entire time because I must have been playing with two kids who were super stoned because they were giggling the entire time. They kept pulling each other into the pits and pushing me around and slapping me and they would just laugh and laugh and laugh which in turn, made me laugh.

Hopefully, the work out the lag a little better. None of my friends were online because everyone assumed it was still broken so I may get more online time in this weekend.

I haven't played that level, but I ahve seen some other pretty good ones.

I played one that spoofed that Ninja Warrior show on G4. It was hilarious, and the creator did a fairly faithful representation of the first teir obstacle course.

The other one of note that I played was a PS3 vs 360 level. You had two paths to go, one for each console respectively. My group chose the 360 path and we were instantly awarded a RROD object for future use, and then we were dumped into a chamber full of 360s that exploded when you touched them. The last stretch of the path that lead to the finish line had "WALK OF SHAME" in huge letters in the background. It was amusing and pretty well done.

My son had a blast watching me play the level with the rocket-powered skateboard. There were a few other ones I enjoyed too. The World Of Colour was neat and I'm interested to check out The Prophecy levels as they're more of a story telling set of levels as opposed to platforming ones. And the one that plays the Final Fantasy VI opening theme is nice.

Rip offs of what? Or do you mean the user levels? If so, I'd agree, far too many people are doing levels of other games right now. Still, the God of War and Mirror's Edge levels that are out there are pretty cool.

Oh, they're definitely floaty. There really isn't a precision to LBP's sackpersons. Trying to correct an overadjustment when attempting to land in a precipitous area will likely leave you overcompensating in the opposite direction.

If you take it as part of the challenge, it's not so bad. But this is no precision platformer.

I've found there to be fewer and fewer problems with the online stuff. Have played some online co-op recently and had no problems with lag either.
The game is fun, but levels are still pretty tough to make.
I'm still trying my hand at it.

Agreed. The music in the game is fantastic. What amuses me to no end is the fact that the music track that caused all of the ruckus is still in the game, albeit in an instrumental form.

I've ended up buying about 4-5 songs off of iTunes now. I really like some of the ingame music though and that's nowhere to be found. The gardens music, with the flute riff... I love that song.

I had friends over last night for some local 4 player co-op. Best multiplayer I ever played. Really, don't write it of on some start-up hick-ups. They'll fix it and it will be awesome.

I'm talking about online. Local is fine. The #1 reason I bought this game was to play online with my friends in real life. So without this option it turns the game into an expensive rental for me.

I've just taken Xbox Live for granted and believed the hype from users that PSN was the same level but I quickly learned that you get what you pay for.

That's why I'm giving them a chance to fix the servers and let me actually play with my friends before sending the game to ebay and never playing an online PS3 game again.

They'll fix it, they have to. If word would get around that one of their biggest titles ever is not being taken care of all hell would break loose in the community. It's only been 2-3 weeks, running pretty decent already.

The co-op is really hit or miss at times, but I've been loving it. I managed to join a pretty good group of 3 strangers and our little foursome played for about 3 hours doing all the 4X puzzles.

This is also the game that got me to buy that second controller because my wife wanted to play along. My wife. The person who hasn't touched a game since Tetris and goes to bed early is staying up past midnight to play LBP. Definitely a good game.

Costumes coming as DLC in Japan, likely for North America as well.

http://www.siliconera.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/lilbitsanimals.jpgHere’s a list of stuff Japan is getting this Thursday, which might be similar to what Sony releases in North America this Thursday. Prices are in yen, but Sony announced the Frog costume will cost $.99 cents so the animal costumes will probably run for $.99 each.

Toro (Sony Cat) - 200 (* Don’t count on getting the Sony cat.)
Frog - 100
Gorilla- 100
Shark - 100
Penguin - 100
Animal Pack - 300
Costume Contest European Region Created Item - FreeAnimal Costumes Coming To LittleBigPlanet This Week (http://www.siliconera.com/2008/11/10/animal-costumes-coming-to-littlebigplanet-this-week/) (Siliconera)

The shark and the frog look cool, but I don't see myself dropping real cash for costumes. Levels, maybe, but not those prices for what is technically horse armor for your sackboy. You give me 5 or 10 of those for $1 and maybe we'll talk. $1 each? Screw you and the sackhorse that you rode in on.

I would do like 10 outfits for a dollar but a dollar each, no thanks. And because I have an empty wallet in the store pretty much all the time, then even 1 costume will cost me $5 bucks.

I'll get all the ones for free but they can keep the charged ones.

But the online is free! :P

I haven't played it for a while with all of the other games I've been working on, but I'm hoping that by the time I finish playing Valkyria Chronicles and Gears 2 and Fable 2, well, hopefully they'll have things sorted out by then.

It is a real shame that the online part of this game has had so many problems. If they'd been able to get it to work from the get-go, it could have really been a great feather in Sony's cap.

I hopped on this last night, meaning to pass some time before my buddies came on for GoW2. I ended up playing until midnight.

I have not had any networking issues with the game since the initial lag, and this game is still my GotY.

Really this is the only game that has been released this holiday season that has maintained its shine.

I haven't had any problems when playing, but in create mode I had problems with the undo function on Tuesday night. It's not fun to wait for like 25-30 seconds for every undo. After a while I lost all contact with the server, and after a minute or so everything worked just fine again. (server reboot I'd assume).

Since launch week, I have had 0 (zero) problems connecting, playing, and publishing online. Maybe you should contact your ISP?

Even with the 0.5% moderation (http://threespeech.com/blog/2008/11/littlebigplanet-community-content-update/) going on, I still love this game. Now if I can just make it past the bunker...

I don't think the ISP is the problem considering that right before I put in LBP, I played about 4 hours of Gears 2 and COD5 online.

Plus, I've been downloading all kinds of stuff from the PSN store so it's not my PS3 connection.

Perhaps a port is being blocked by your firewall that LBP needs? Does your router have a "gaming" mode that would block/unblock traffic to and from the LBP servers?

Nope, I've played online in LBP before. Nothing is blocked, everything works fine. I play Wipeout HD just fine online too. Maybe I hit a bad batch last night so I'll try again but it sucks how sporadic the online service is with PSN. Some games work fine, some have hardcore issues. It's really the roll of the dice.

Also, I'm having a hard time believing that you had no issues during launch week because the servers were down quite a few times in the first week and it was very well documented. This game and Socom are huge black eyes on the PSN this Christmas.

I'm with everyone else. Besides that first bad chunk for that first week or so, I haven't had any problems playing online. I've gotten into a few games that have been laggy, but it's only momentary and one was becuase someone was doing something stupid on their PS3 (checking their trophies mid-level - WTF mang!).

I'll give it another shot tonight. Maybe I just hit the servers at the wrong time last night but the timing seemed too weird to me. Again, everything works online with my PS3 except for LBP.

Also, the wireless in the PS3 isn't the best so maybe I'll just hardwire my console just in case. I was ready to sell my game last night because I was fed up with the server crap so I'll give it a few more tries if no one else is having issues.

Worst case, I'll call Sony to ensure everything is ok.

I'm going over WiFi as well and haven't had any problems past that unplayable first week. Is it just when you try to get in a game with other people or is it all the time (since it's constantly pulling info from the servers)?

I haven't played much since last week, but I must have spent 2-3 hours screwing around with the editor over the past couple of days and I never had a problem. I haven't tried the co-op since last week, so I can't totally speak to that. The only time I get to really play would be during EST prime time (8-11PM), so I'd think if there were any congestion issues I'd see them.

It was when I first booted up that I got the error, then I went to my pod. I play a level I haven't played before, then when I was ready to sign off, I went to the left planet and tried to do some shit and it tried to ping the servers and I got the error again.

I'll try tonight and see if I get the same problem.

So played tonight, connected with no problems. Started an online match with 3 other people on a level that's been given me problems and completed it with barely any lag. Also got my trophy for completing a level with three people not on my friends list. I guess I just hit the servers at a very bad time last night. Hopefully I don't run into any more issues.

Now if I can just drag all the other people I know that have LBP away from multiplayer Gears 2, I can try to see if the friends playing is fixed too.

Yeah. I exhibited unexpected restraint when I only grabbed the free costume that was up there (the plant one).

Again, the only costumes I intend to spend money on are the Solid Snake and Sephiroth ones and MAYBE the Helgast one. I'm assuming the things like the Animal Pack will be up there forever so if I get the hankering to drop $4 on it in 6 months, I still have that option, but there is already so much there that I have a hard time justifying it right now.

At least you got the t-shirt. I'm such a LBP whore that I have all of the DLC costumes, yes, even the MotorStorm one. In fact, I talked my buddy into pre-ordering LBP from GameStop so I could snag the God of War goodies from his account when I had pre-ordered from Best Buy for the Nariko costume.
