If you are going to buy a Blu Ray, make it a Pixar. Eack of their movies, DVD as well, have rather comprehensive audio and video calibration programs in the menues.

Is there that much extra stuff that it takes 3 discs on Blu-ray?
I'm not trying to talk shit, I'm genuinely curious. I suppose the format allows for the movie itself to be considerably larger/higher res, but wasn't one of the selling points of Blu-ray how much info the disc could hold?

Don't mean to detract from thread, carry on.

That's a sweet deal, I might even consider that. Wall*E rocked and Blu-Ray would make it even better.

Gotta love Pixar...

Well, at least one of those discs is likely to be a standard DVD to allow for the digital copy, so that may explain one of the three. I haven't seen any digital copies that aren't on standard DVD.

Also, in my humble opinion, nothing benefits more from the resolution bump than a Pixar film.

...so, are we officially gullible enough now to think that BluRay movies look better(or more ridiculously, sound better) than seeing the film at a decent theater?

Perhaps he was referring to owning a Blu Ray of it vs. a DVD?

This was a fun movie, but man was it seriously, truly overly sweet. It bordered on obnoxiously so...very close for me, but I enjoyed it. :)

Indeed, though it was also depressing at points...odd. Anyway, not one of the better Pixar films for me, but still better than a lot of other children's movies.

Nice! I haven't personally made the jump to Blu-ray, but I forwarded this deal to a friend who has.

Here's hoping he picks it up and then I crash his house.

All of the theaters within an hour's drive of here are complete shit :p DVDs usually end up looking significantly better.

Also: Wall-E was my favorite movie this year, and this is a year full of awesome, memorable movies.

What are those "digital copies"? What's the DRM???

I've picked up two BR's recently that came with digital copies. The first was Nightmare Before Christmas, which had a sheet in the box with an activation code. You typed the code into iTunes, and it would activate the disc and copy the movie from the disc to your library. I was then able to easily copy it to my iPhone. It's also apparently able to be activated through Windows Media Player, but I didn't bother with that route.

The other movie was Dead Space Downfall, which came with a digital copy that's in WMV with DRM. I didn't bother copying it over yet, because I can't copy that to the iPhone obviously, and if I'm at my computer, I'd rather just watch the Bluray.

Since Disney distributes both NBC and WallE, I'd imagine it will use the same method of iTunes or WMP.

Oh, hot shit on a cold shovel... In for one.

I bought I Am Legend the other day on Blu-ray.

In what ways exactly does Blu-Ray change the appearance?

In what ways exactly does Blu-Ray change the appearance?

Of a film?

I can say (and also in response to the other comments about theatres around here) that Blu-Ray has far more detail apparent, even on my television, than a film does.

At least at my local theatres. We have only one digital theatre locally. Many films, even when focused okay, look grainy most of the time in the non-digital theatre. You'll really see the difference if you can see them in both regular and digital. Transformers was a great example.

It is similar, and probably even a more apparent difference, to see film vs Blu-ray.

However, I'll also say this - I think a lot of the arguments we often have over this are related to how your brain processes sensory input. Just like some people can't taste certain bitter tastes, or how other people confuse certain smells (vanilla and pipe smoke smell very similar to me), I think that the way many people process a movie visually prevents them from seeing the clarity. Maybe they are "big picture viewers" and their brain doesn't naturally see leeeetle itty bitty things. I dunno. I just know some people with 20/20 vision who say they can't see the difference between DVD and Blu-ray, and I don't see how that's possible without something like this.
