Everybody's favorite plumber is returning back to some of his earlier roots - particularly back to the Super Mario 64 days in Super Mario Galaxy 2. Nintendo has released another "transmission" video, and I'm relatively sure the locale is going to be quite familiar to many:

Wow.. that's awesome ! (Well, except for the part where the last 1/3rd of the video is just a damn screenshot played for 30sec.

Man, can you believe that Super Mario 64 was the halfway point in Mario's life right now? Donkey Kong in 1981, Super Mario 64 in 1996, and then this in 2010.

We old.

I know it's cool to see old levels remade, but it kind of seems like obvious recycling...

If it wasn't for all the Mario64 re-releases, I'd be excited.

Looks like one of the new galaxies will be filled with recreated levels from the old Mario games..which has me interested to see which other levels made the cut.

Well they have certainly reminded me of how far the Wii has have come graphically since the Nintendo 64.

Yeah, as a guy that just bought a shirt referencing "Tommy Boy", I'm not above nostalgia. On the other hand, several years ago I just started feeling like Nintendo was running almost exclusively on kids and the nostalgia of their biggest adult fans. I'm not saying that it's a "kiddie" system or that it's not cool if some folks dig it, but it's just not for me anymore. I was blown away by Mario 64 when it came out, but the prospect of replaying levels excites me exactly none.

Meh, it's a Mario platformer. Those are typically utterly fucking brilliant, so I'll reserve my judgement for now.

Mario 64 was a fantastic game when it came out, and it's still fun to play. I was blown away when I first tried it at the local Target. Of course it was one of the first 3D games I'd seen on a console, and the first 3D platformer I played.

It does seem a little silly to redo the level like this. I was surprised at how similar it looks to the N64 version, although obviously the textures and such are much improved.

My favorite part was the music.

Easily. The remake of the music is fantastic!

I would agree but I'd like to give Nintendo the benefit of the doubt when it comes to a franchise like this. Newer Mario Kart titles have a couple of classic tracks. I hope this is something in the same vein.

As someone who's played every Mario platformer to death, I have my hopes up. When the abomination that was Donkey Kong 64 came out, they made the original DK an unlockable in the game. That was the best part of the whole cart.

I think this idea has potential, and when it's used tastefully and sparingly, it only adds to the experience. If there is tons of main content, like the first one, I don't think anyone has any right to complain.

I don't mind a few rehashes here in there. Nintendo, unlike some people (lookin' at you, Sega), does nostalgia and fan service well. I doubt that short clip tells us everything. I bet there's a big surprise waiting for us gamers. I mean c'mon folks...it's a Mario platformer. Have faith, especially considering just how fucking quality the first Galaxy was.

I doubt we'll be seeing any of those. Kuribo's Shoe has quite a fan following, though, but Nintendo won't acknowledge it even in Smash Bros.

Fine. Frog suit.

Damn them! Cloud suit is pretty cool but frog suit...I mean come on Frog suit!

Aw man. That would've been epic in Smash. Whenever you're in the shoe you can only hop around really high but you have complete attack priority on the bottom of the shoe.

I think it's pretty obvious that this is in there as a novelty level, and that's fine. If you're going to pick one of the Mario64 levels to update, that one is pretty iconic.

Reviews for SMG2 have been (predictably perhaps, but they were certainly right the first time) just stellar, so I'm very excited to get in there and get back to collecting stars. Bitch all you like about Nintendo rehashing their old games (though anyone who claims SMG brought nothing new to the table is absolutely full of it), they still make the tightest, most joyous platforming experiences around, period. I'm certainly up for more.

Nintendo's not even trying to hide what they do anymore.

Presumably because people love it and it generates a goldmine every time. ;)
