Ubisoft has released the launch trailer for Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. Rather than serve as a sequel to 2008's Prince of Persia reboot, The Forgotten Sands instead returns to last gen's Sands of Time series. Which coincidentally is what the movie releasing next week is about. Rather than tie directly into the film, The Forgotten Sands bridges the multi-year gap between the original Sands of Time and the Warrior Within sequel.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands releases this week for the 360, PS3 and PC. The Wii, PSP and DS versions were developed separately and will feature different gameplay.

Whoever does the voice of The Prince needs to take some serious acting lessons. It doesn't help that the dialog is cheesy as all get out, though.

Unless this game gets some really high ratings I'm really not interested. I've enjoyed the last few but this one just doesn't snag me.

I'm just sad that Ubisoft seems to be leaving the reboot to die. I'm sure this game will be fun and all (as long as it's more Sands Of Time or Two Thrones than Warrior Within) but it's definately a rental, esp. given how packed this week has been.

I'm not sure they are leaving the reboot to die. There's a rumor that the sequel to the reboot will be out this time next year. This Sands game is being put out to cash in on the Disney movie.

I'd heard from a person or two (who I trust a lot less than the lovely folks around here) that the reboot was done and no more games were going to be coming. Which made me mad given how both the game and, from what I hear, the DLC end.

I'm fine with this game based on a movie based on a game being put out this week but I just can't get excited about it. I've moved on from the Sands trilogy...

Sands of Time is more refined than this outing. Collision detection is awful. combat is abysmal. Platforming is only OK so far. Apparently, you collect points as way of buying upgrades to your abilities. I'd be shocked if they manage to fix the combat engine with upgrades, though.

The game is all about platforming and collision detection. I'm fine with the combat sucking as I never thought of combat as what the series was really about (unless it sucks so badly that you can't progress). But if the platforming is sub-par and you can't bounce off of things properly, that's a real shame.

This game looks worse than the last gen games. Did Ubi Montreal take credit for this?

I was hopeful this would be good, but everything I've heard says the opposite.

Ah well, too many good games out to keep me busy.

The original Prince of Persia (the first one that came out years ago, way before Ubisoft touched the series) actually had a great combat system.

I for one am very glad that this and the movie are coming out soon. It means that in a few weeks I will no longer have to see trailers for that terrible looking movie. :)
