Media Create Sales for 05-03 to 05-09 - Nintendo Pulls Ahead

Nintendo hardware held steady with the PSP and PS3 both falling away from the previous week. There were no new software releases in the top 50 and Nintendo was able to dominate the software chart with 3 DS and 4 Wii games in the top 10. 5 of those games were released prior to this year showing the longevity of Nintendo's first party lineup.

The Famitsu reader awards are in with 1UP (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3179258) providing coverage:
Dragon Quest IX, the DS RPG that sold over 4.1 million copies in Japan last year, was voted Game of the Year by Famitsu readers, who praised it for its massive volume and online gameplay. "I still play it today," said one voter, a 35-year-old male. "I never feel like I'm being handheld along the way; I like how it feels like I'm an active participant in the world."

More interesting, perhaps, is the reader pick for Famitsu's Innovation Award. That prize went to Tomodachi Collection, the DS game designed by Yoshio Sakamoto (Metroid) that's best described as a multiplayer Japanese take on the The Sims using Miis. "All the kids around here have it, and their parents wind up enjoying it too as a result," said one reader. "I can certainly see why it's been such a long seller." (The game's been a surprise hit in Japan, selling nearly 3.2 million copies, although Sakamoto's downplayed the chances of it ever reaching English-speaking regions.)

For the Rookie Reward, Famitsu readers picked Platinum Games' Bayonetta. "I like Hideki Kamiya's games because they all have an incredible uniqueness to them," one 22-year-old male reader said. "I haven't played an action game where just messing around was so much fun in a long time," another added.


Bayonetta game designer, Hideki Kamiya appears annoyed by the existence of pornographic comics based around the game according to a recent tweet. Via GameGrep (http://www.gamegrep.com/news/33126-bayonetta_designer_angry_about_pornographic_bayone tta_doujinshi):
Kamiya: It seems there's pornorgraphic doujinshi based off Bayonetta... There are fans who will resent that, and I hardly think those responsible [for the doujinshi] hold any love for the game...

I'll take Bayonetta porn over Pokemon any day.
