Supposedly, Home will be available in Episode 6 of Qore...as this screenshot was taken in an e-mail that is sent out to Qore subscribers. If true, I for one will be purchasing episode 6 of Qore.

That's the part I read as well, but it does say "Episode 6", too.
Given that it's supposed to be free when it comes out... there's no way I'm buying a subscription (or a single episode, for that matter) to Qore just to get into a closed beta. Home's not that big a deal for me.

I'm not anti-home, I'm anti taking funding away from games I would want to play. I'll go into home, create my avatar, walk around for 30 minutes then leave and probably never go back. No one can say that putting money into Home is a better decision then funding new first party games. I'm sorry.
Same with life with Playstation. I installed it checked it out and watched the globe spin a few times... read some news reports then quit and haven't been back. Does this mean I'm "anti-life with Playstation"? No, it's just means what's there is boring.
Now they are charging for the beta where everyone that has been in the beta previously has said how incredibly boring it is? Seriously, you don't have to be "anti" anything to see that Home in it's current form has been a waste of time.

yeh they need to add a lot of options to customize your character
For those that have played around, do you have to download an area each time you log in or is it a one time thing? If it is each time you log in, HOME is dead to me already.
I know it is advertising but it is kind of kick ass that I am watching a Socom video right now. It shows the potential if they can get more than advertising displayed on the screen.

So, I know it's just a beta - but I found a staggering lack of things to do in Home. The bowling alley was cool - I played a couple of games of bowling, some pool and some arcade games. However, I was hoping the mall would have some items to get so that I could customize my "space". I mean, I want to have some kind of motivation to get me excited about using Home when it comes out of beta.

Nope, didn't download it. Just got a random email. Haven't tried it again yet to see if the servers are back up since I turned off my PS3 when I was getting the errors and turned on my 360 and COD5 and been playing all night. I'll try later but I don't have time to waste on this right now.

Then I watched a trailer for SOCOM, which repeated endlessly. Then a bunch of us danced at the bubble machine in front of the screen.

I agree. The potential is there but there is nothing spectacular at the moment.
The Arcade in the bowling ally would be pretty kick ass if they can add a few multiplayer games. Could you imagine logging into home and and hitting up the arcade for some Tekken? I would love something like that.

or going to the movie theater and see more than just 1 trailer looping over and over? or going to a clothing shop and buying different clothes? customization is going to be key here.

My Mii looks just like me, my 360 Avatar looks just like me... my Home character doesn't look like me no matter how hard I try.
It was interesting what I played so far, it just seems like it's an idea where their eyes were bigger then their stomachs. I'll go back in and play with it some more but they really better have some more things to do when the launch comes up.
I kept thinking while walking around how many games didn't get funded because of this.

You must look very toonish. :)
I couldn't make my Pii (haha!) not look like a mass murderer or rapist. He just looks creepy no matter what I do. Then again, that probably has more to do with me than it does any limitation of the character creator in Home. Actually, it will be a pretty robust character creator once they get more clothing and hair options available.

The further the abstraction, the easier it is to ascribe specific attributes. Case in point, almost all babies look like Yoda and Don Zimmer's love child. But each parent sees features of themselves, or their parents in the fetus. The Miis or 360 Avatars are like Charactatures, if you can find one or two of your own features to accentuate and focus on, it becomes you. I have a big head, pointed "Vulcan" eyebrows, and a smashed in nose.

That's definitely true although I have to say I'm impressed with all the customizations of the "avatar" in Home(what do they call your person in Home anyway?) That being said it seems to go to waste because you can never really see someone close up (or can you and I just missed it?).
Also the only thing that would excite about Home is the game specific areas and I don't see them anywhere.

Honestly, it's been said before, you aren't missing anything. There are only a few areas open (home, mall, plaza, bowling alley, theatre)...and it's empty and sparse. Yah, it's still a beta and they are doing a bunch of load testing, but I do not see the "hook" yet.
Then again, I'm old and I felt old walking through a river of "LOL's" and "I luv LBP" and "You need skillz to play SOCOM".

Well, it appears that Sony sent me an invite for downloading the Home theme and one for the stress test so it looks like I've got an extra. I've PMed you.
I downloaded it back in early November when I got my initial invite. I found it pretty meh. I ran around the exterior area for a bit and saw a few people standing around in groups doing nothing (at least it appeared that way). I tried entering what I believe was the theater only to be prompted to download the area. I said "screw this" and promptly turned it off and haven't tried again since.
To be fair, I wasn't all that interested in Home to begin with.

It still matches this description. Perfectly.
It's mindnumbingly boring, and the games available on it are games I could fire up on Pogo. (Albeit, they wouldn't look as fancy.) My biggest gripe is that once it comes out of beta, all the features that will make Home cool are the ones that'll have dollar signs in front of them.

I'm not talking about Home in general. Home in general will be free. I'm talking about anything that will make Home a unique experience for each person.
When you go in the mall in Home, all the stores are empty - but EVERY store seemingly brings you to that shop's "page" in the Playstation Store. My guess is that freebies are going to be few and far between, and everything else (clothes, furniture/stuff for your space) is going to cost money.
I know pay-for-customization is all the rage overseas, but it's definitely not for me. Same goes for Microsoft and possible (I'm sure it's already on the way) "premium" avatar clothing. To me, Home is like that, only on a grander scale. In my mind (and I know I'm jumping to conclusions here) they might as well call it "Home (for Microtransactions)".
EDIT: Make no mistake - I seriously hope I'm wrong on this.

Game spaces are virtual places to hang out that tied back into a PS3 game. They've showed a war room for Warhawk where you can actually move miniature pieces across a replica of the levels to plan strategy. There's also a bar for Uncharted. None seem to be available in the Beta.

I was going to start a club - but then I read the fine print: that all clubs will be deleted upon release of Home, and that the club's name may not be available after that point, if you started it during the beta.
Well, since Home will be in a permanent state of beta you don't have anything to worry about will you?

I'm still looking for a code if anyone has an extra.
I'd like to give it a try too.
It's kinda fallen off my radar. Not because I think it will Blow, but because it keeps getting pushed back and back and back.
Those of you that are in it... are there common areas? do only your friends show as avatars in the common areas or are there "local type hubs"
I'm really curious about the execution.

I haven't logged into Home for the exact same reason. Instead of updating the entire application at once, an area only installs its update when you try to access it. This is a stupid, foolish, and inane way to update Home.
It's strange, I'm a DLC whore for LittleBigPlanet, Disgaea 3, Rock Band 2, etc.; however, I cannot bring myself to purchase a damn thing in Home.

I think they did that with an eye to the future. Imagine five years from now when every other game released has its own lounge area and a slew of advertisers have made "adutainment" spaces. Would you really want to update the whole thing at once when you logged in?

That's still no excuse for not having 'primary' spaces download and install as one unit. Your apartment, the hub, the mall, the theatre - all those should update as if they were one area. It's ridiculous to download your apartment, then have to wait to download the hub.
The next obvious step is to allow it to download in the background while you do other things, with the option to update automatically when the system is on, but the connection is idle.

I agree. The core areas should be bundled with the base product. By all means patch them occasionally but do them in a block.

I think Sony just has a strange design philosophy when it comes to downloads/updates.
For example, look how long it takes for freaking firmware updates. It takes seconds for Live (2-5 minutes when it was a major revision) but PS3 firmware updates take at least close to 10.
Another example is game updates. I hadn't played Pain in a while and it made be run through back to back to back updates. Why did I have to go to the update screen 3 times vs just once?!
I too browsed Home recently and ran into update after update before I could get anywhere. I ended up spending more time downloading and updating then actually exploring Home.
Anyway enough of my bitching, when are we going to start to see some of the cool developer areas in Home?

I never understood that. When I bought Pain last year, I was immediately greeted with multiple updates before I could even play the game. You would think the version you download from the store would be the most up to date version of the product available.

Game specific. That's the thing with most of the PSN, you never know what experience you're going to get. It could be super speedy updates and easy online like Resistance or it could be super buggy games at launch that are barely playable like Socom, or games like MGS4 who have 3 different log ins for you to even start a multiplayer game, to games like Hot Shots Golf 5 which takes 4 hours to update the patch and doesn't matter on your speed.
It's like a crap shoot what you are going to get sometimes.

I'll tell you in all honesty, the only times I have ever had slow downloads were in the early stages of owning my PS3. Since then, everything has been speedy. In-game and otherwise. It's fun so far, but then I really enjoy tower defense games. There is a basic tutorial, but they do let you discover things for yourself, such as when you upgrade the Machine Gun towers to a high enough level, they'll take on both ground and air troops.

In the past two months, there have been some neat things done with Home, although my perception is now just lukewarm instead of frosty. Home's problem isn't that there needs to be more costumes or apartments, it's the fact there's NOTHING fun to do in the environment. The interactive parts of Home like the arcade games, pool, bowling, etc. just aren't fun. The game specific rooms are a step in the right direction but really aren't interesting except the Warhawk war room.

I know I tried it once at launch, and then not again. Recently heard there were some interesting new zones and thought I'd fire it up....then it said it needed to download a few gigabytes worth of patches and updates. The emphasis on Home is really one of the most baffling things about the PS3, I just feel the effort could be put into far more practical things. Just tried it out. It's okay, but I don't think I'd ever spend any real time on it. Played up into the third level. It's basically a straight forward vehicle shooter.
After getting bored with that, I explored Home a bit more, and thought I found something cool. In the Namco Bandai section, there is a Namco Arcade, and it said I could go there to play games. I was all like, "Huh, cool, I could go for some arcade games." So, I head over there, and start looking at the machines that were set up. I came across a Dragon Spirit machine, and I was like, "FUCK YES DRAGON SPIRIT!" After trying to play it, the game told me: "Failed to start the game. To play this game inside Playstation@Home, install NAMCO MUSEUM ESSENTIALStm game data to the PLAYSTATION 3 HDD."

Looks like it could be interesting but I wonder if there's more to it than a flat landscape and shooting the same big robot vehicle thing.

Fuck you Namco.
Hahaha, I went through the same thing but with PacMan. I was walking around and I found the arcade, I was really bored and I just wanted to play some damn PacMan but I needed to install that game. They could've had my money very easily if they just let me play the damn game right there and then but NOOOOOO. Idiots.

So I got a PM from [Locust_Star]or at least it looks like that's a user name... saying " Home Private Beta " in the subject line.
"dear PLaystation Plus subscriber, because of your recent visit to PSHome you have been selected for a special Private Beta. How to access:"
And there is an attachment. Is this legit?

I wouldn't trust anything at all that didn't come directly from Sony. All my PS emails come from the same address and have the same format.

How am I supposed to know? It doesn't look official at all.

I totally agree to be leery in situations like this, especially with the hack. You never know...

There is no FUD when someone gets a shady private message.

I'd say it's common sense to be wary of attachments from people you don't know.
