and melamine?
I mean seriously. Do they have any food that doesn't have this shit in it?
I don't even want to fathom how it happens repeatedly in basically every industry. Maybe they should keep an eye on the stuff. I'm pretty sure "Tasty Chicken Inc" doesn't have a use for something used in the manufacturing of plastics, fertilizer, paint and adhesives thats on the up and up.

You know why it gets added? Because they have strict standards on the protein level in the food, and they use the Melamine to pass the test even when they're producing sub-standard product. That makes it even wackier.

Exactly...melamine allows, for example, watered-down milk to appear quite healthy and undiluted. It tricks simple tests into sensing the protein level.
It's not just melamine...there's lead and a host of other hazardous materials in their products. Buyer beware.

I understand why it happens, but I don't see how they haven't cracked down on it. Well I sort of do, Chinese officials don't give a shit about their citizens and its not like they're eating the shit. I don't understand why any nation accepts their exports with the way they do things. Oh thats right its cheap.

They're Chinese. Their concept of what standard of living should be isn't very high and that's one of the down side of being a communist country.

They're cracking down on it now only because it mushroomed into an international incident. A lot of people in the US - and around the world - won't buy anything made in China anymore, and that scares the shit out of them.

Please read a history of our very own industrial revolution and what businesses would do back in the day that they would do to our own population. As humans, when it comes to making money...we do what we can until we can't get away with it anymore. The Chinese aren't the first...and won't be the last...

Sadly, this is not the sort of problem that we can solve by just going around and shooting people in the dick. Which is a shame, it is a finely honed craft.

It's been probably 12 years since I read it, but The Jungle by Upton Sinclair wouldn't be a bad read either. Pretty grisly stuff.

I assume you are speaking from experience, here?

Thats true, but we had basically no regulations or anything at the time. I guess I expected a Communist government who didn't have to worry about silly things like rights to crack down on it faster to appease the masses. Then again they aren't really Commies anymore. They're more of a Capitalistic Oligarchy of some sort now.

Ok, after hopefully taking UWcrash's excellent suggestion on where to start to read about our own industrial revolution, read up on Communist governments. Might want to read about Josef Stalin and how he "appeased" the masses.
And they are still real commie pinkos. Don't let that "open market" stuff fool you ;)
