Messing around with a notion (a new podcast,) Justin (PseudoPseudo) and myself are politely asking if any of our artists here on CoG want to help us out with a logo of sorts.

A martini.

We were thinking the glass, liquid, and toothpick should be realistic with a very obviously pixelated green olive (with, say, a single block of orange for the pimento) in the glass.

Beyond the basic ideas of what we want, we're open to anyone taking a stab at it, though. Anyone feel up for it?

(Also, we'd need the image to be able to use commercially. Essentially, we'd want to use it on a website and not have someone come up and say "Hey, that's my photo! Lawsuit!")

I'll see what I can come up with if I can find some time in the next few days.

Damn you're fast. And good! Is this legit to use freely for commercial purposes? (I think I'll go re-edit that into the original post...)

Yes it is legit. The original image with the martini glass is payed for on iStockphoto.com, and web/digital advertisements is included in the license. :)

Thanks for that sir; it is awesome.

I hope you'll take no offense to my bumping to see what else we get.

As were we both! And on top of that, we got an awesome banner by our own DoctorSetebos!

If you would ever need the "clean" olive:

Not to be a party pooper, but putting this here only because Jeffool explicitly said it had to be commerical safe. The istockphoto.com license acutally doesn't allow content to be used in logos:

http://www.istockphoto.com/license.php

"Standard License Prohibitions"
"4) use any of the Content as part of a trade-mark, design-mark, trade-name, business name, service mark, or logo;"

I don't work for istockphoto or personally care, but FYI. And beyond the potential license pitfall, the result is cool! Love the 3D pixel olive.

:(

Good catch, Snubber.

I checked the standard license permitted use, which does say Yes under both "Online or electronic publications or uses" and "Web/digital advertisements", though, so I'm not sure where this falls, since it's not really a part of the logo itself...?

Anyway, I'll try to find another picture of a martini glass, guaranteed free to use, just to be sure.

I think we're fine. The glass is used heavily, but really it's the olive that's more the trademark, if anything. I'm perfectly fine with it, KC. (But thanks for noticing it, Snubber, and pointing it out!)

Ok, if you're fine, I'm fine. Just let me know if you change your mind, and I'll find another photo. :)

That banner looks like crap.

But the podcast is great, guys! Small suggestion: it would be really helpful if you included links to the news stories you talk about within the blog post. Just a thought.

Carry on!

I'm playing around with Bryce at the moment, so I made another version of the olive. Feel free to use it if you want:

That banner looks like crap.

In a more constructive manner of speaking, I'd ditch the drop shadow for starters. Personally, I would lose the black outline as well, and try either a subtle gradient, highlight, or bevel. Pick one of the three and try it, emphasis on "subtle."

The Doc is allowed to be less than constructive. He made it. ;)
